"Excellent 2 night stay at the Hare and hounds. Such a lovely well presented pub and very nicely decorated rooms, Our room was named "The Flying Duck" and it was perfect. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was amaizing. Breakfast both mornings was fab and fresh Its an easy 20 minute walk into Newbury but if walkings not your thing its a short drive with lots of pay and display parking in the town centre. "Clean, simple room in a central location, easy for the train. I didn’t use the parking but it had good spaces if you need it. No toiletries provided. I forgot my phone charger, and they couldn’t lend me one but directed me to the shop over the road, where I could buy one. Didn’t try the breakfast but Bill’s is next door and was great."

"This place was a dump. It smelled if sewage and the owner/manager was rude and arrogant. He sent an invoice for GBP20 for an early check-in, we were there an hour early, he gave us the key and never said a thing; good luck with that !!!. The menu was pathetic. We didn't eat there at all. Horrible experience. The room was very clean as was the bathroom, but the sewage smell was unbearable. Never again, whoever owns this place needs a new manager, if the manager is the owner this place can't...

"Room wasnt the biggest but perfectly formed. Only disappointment was the shower was over a bath - difficult for me being slightly disabled to get in & out of. "
