For the second time it was a pleasure to welcome you, ideal for meeting the family and enjoying walks in the countryside. Northallerton offers lots of delicious good food for the Christmas table. We were given lots of fabulous cakes from Bettys, as a treat. Louis and Cooper have lovely pudding and Thomson's the best meet and vegan pies. The sun is shining this afternoon. We are expecting family to come and see us. It will soon be Easter and more holiday time. Happy New year Mary

Cosy cottage
The cottage is very cosy and warm with everything you need. Beds are comfortable. All very retro in style but spotlessly clean. Expansive views from the property and easy to reach Richmond or the North York moors. We enjoyed some (muddy) walks around the farm. Mary is very helpful and keen to make sure everything is ok. Somewhere to put muddy boots would be a good addition.

Excellent Stay!!!
Stanhow bungalow is in a beautiful spot with lovely views and an abundance of peace and quiet. Mary gave us a very warm welcome and comprehensive guide to the cottage which although somewhat old fashioned (that is part of its charm) is very well equipped and is a great base for exploring this wonderful part of the country. We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and hope to return in the near future.

A very nice bungalow with a lovely big garden, the property is quite old but had everything we needed and everything worked, comfy beds and spacious rooms. The only thing i would recommend would be new sofas, they seemed comfy at first but soon became flat with the cushions etc. A very enjoyable stay in a peaceful area but note no shop or pub within walking distance so take all your supplies with you as we did and it is not an issue.

The property is located in a quiet rural area with good walks for our dog. We unfortunately had to miss a day because of poor weather which we discussed with the owner. We found the property as described which was acceptable to us, but as a comment for a possible area for improvement which you request the property may not appeal to much younger people who may expect a more modern internal look, though we note that modern facilities such as micro wave and WiFi are available.

You visited Swaledale, Wenslydale and Barnard Castle in Teesdale. Your arrival was delayed by your ferry crossing: you booked due to storms in the West of Scotland . I was pleased to give you a warm welcome and enjoyed meeting your dog when she was taken for walks. We have lovely sunshine now. the moon is a harvest moon, the autumn colours are starting, lots of acorn, and chestnuts so much for children to enjoy. I supply a list for them to discover to what they find on the farm such as sheep's wool, birds, in my farm eco' file, along side lots of heritage sites visits to be found in 2 further files of information. We have many award winning places to eat near by, booking is recommended. We are on the coast to coast walk, Swaledale walk and the Durham to York cycle root.

Lovely short stay
We had a lovely 4 days exploring the area. The cottage was very well equipped with everything that you need. It felt like you were in the middle of nowhere but actually we're just 15 mins drive from Northallerton and easy access to the Dale's and North Yorkshire Moors. The cottage was cleaned to a very high standard to protect against covid. The only suggestion I would have is to have a few less notes about the place and perhaps have a folder instead for that information, otherwise everything else was great.

Nice property but not impressed with owner
I booked the stay for my daughter and family and made this clear when booking. On arrival, they were subjected to a 45 minute briefing of all the rules etc. The owner called a number of times during the stay, 1) to say the outside light had been left on, it was dark and one of the party had gone out for a walk. 2) a window had been left open, it was a warm sunny day. 3) the owner had agreed to a camper-van being parked on the drive for 2 days of the stay, but then objected to a power lead being plugged in. The owner has suggested a charge for the electric per night. There were dozens of notices around the property explaining the rules. EG Don't put rubbish in the bins, they were expected to take all rubbish home with them. The owner has contacted me and claims that the property has been left in such a state that it took 10 hours to clean up. Absolutely ridiculous. The owner claims that there was a hole in the none slip bath mat, the mat was not used. The owner claims not to have known that my daughter and family would be attending, even though I sent a comprehensive message to this effect. The owner claims that there was a glass broken, this was discovered in the cupboard already broken and left out to be seen. It was actually a pub glass so didn't belong to the owner. The owner has said that she will withhold the deposit but has not yet sent me justification for this as I have asked. This would have been a really enjoyable break for my daughter and family were it not for the regular interference from the owner during the stay and the unfounded accusations she has now made.

This sadden me greatly. I always call to welcome my visitors, show them where to find tourist information, ordinance survey maps, games and puzzles, books to read; where to find blankets & offer help when it is needed. I also show my guests where to find the first aid kit, and the instructions for the various appliances. We are inspected by Visit England and they appreciate the various notices such as do not put cloths on the storage radiators - mind the steps on the back door, how to open the windows and lock the doors. The camper van was not part of the booking made by Mr Smith at the time I was not informed that he was not coming to stay . The booking for was for 2 adults and 2 children. His daughter, husband and two small children came & were delightful and I was very pleased to tell them about the farm and what they might see. I was not aware that his daughter would be leaving early and leaving the two people in the camper van who were not part of the booking as arranged; I had no objection to the parking of two vehicles as there is a good parking area. We are not in the caravan & camping business. I was not asked if electricity via a long cable hanging out of the bedroom window could be connected to the van - for health and safely reasons it was not safe with young children. Yes the windows were left open at a time when we had dreadful stormy weather further up the dale stone walls had been washed away. At the end of the visit washing up was precariously stacked on the rack not put away and dishes left soaking. the glass was broken unbeknown by me. We do carefully check the bungalow between lets making sure all cupboards shelves and drawers are clean and tidy. Yes we took 10 hours to insure the bungalow was as found; normally we take 3 or 4 hours depending on the number of guests and number of bedrooms used. I accepted ware and tare on the none slip bath mat, it has been replaced. On arrival There is a complementary bottle of milk in the fridge fresh ice in the freezer. A fresh kettle of water ready with cups of tea or coffee & a delicious box of hand made Lewis and Cooper biscuits for Northallerton's famous specialist grocers on the welcome trolley. We are eco friendly, have planted trees, maintained hedges planted in 1880 and therefore benefit from a variety of wild life, birds and flora. At this time of the year, we have migrant bats, and the wild geese call to feed.

Lovely people who had personal problems but enjoy our peaceful countryside, nature and the wild life. The garden was ideal for fun with the young people and dogs. An ideal area for exploring the whole of north Yorkshire with the family. The sun shone and the views were excellent.

Delightful guests, they said the bungalow was the best place that they had stayed, and they would come again. They loved the countryside, listening to the bird song, peaceful walks, seeing the trees bursting in to leaf, also the blossom. The lambs were enjoying the sunshine. Vidits to York and Whitby, and the market towns of Northallerton & Thirsk. They added that I had thought of everything to give them a lovely stay.

A lovely couple with a delightful dog. they enjoyed the views, and sunsets - Sadie the dog enjoyed walks around the farm - during the day they loved touring and visiting the local markets towns. It was Wensley Dale show on Saturday 25th August and on Bank Holiday Monday Reeth Show made famous in James Herriot's books. My present guests say there is so many interesting things to see and visit. Freedom to walk and picnic. Captain Cook's replicate ship is now docked in Whitby and open to the public. A wonderful time to tour the Yorkshire Moor and Dales with the heather in bloom.

Excellent comfortable holiday cottage in quiet location.
Our family of six spent a delightful week in quiet country surroundings. Good walking footpaths around the farm which we all enjoyed. Mary was a very welcoming hostess with lots of local knowledge to share with us and make our holiday even more interesting. We would certaily consider staying here again.

The family enjoyed the birds, flower and wild life around the farm. They also enjoyed the heather travelling across the moors to Whitby, Captain Cook's replicate ship is now open to the public. The Dales and Moors look wonderful with the heather in flower. Our local Brymoor ice cream is a treat you have to enjoy! Made from their own channel island cows. We have availability in September and October, some of our guests are planning to come again later in the year. Passed guests tell us they relax as soon as they walk through the door.

Perfect guests who enjoyed their stay and said the bungalow worked well for their frail father. The peaceful country side, lovely views and meeting the horses. They enjoyed visits to Northallerton, Bedale and Thirsk and meeting friends who now live in North Yorkshire. I am sure they will come again.

Our visitors had a fabulous time, with so many interesting places to visit on the Moors and Dales and historic Kiplin Hall nearby visited by Tony Robinson on his walk; our guest loved the convenience of shopping in Northallerton and enjoyed very good food & hospitality. Why not booked in advance of your stay the best restaurants in the world at Oldstead. The visit was for 2 weeks, they left saying would be back next year & will recommend this peaceful individual bungalow to their friends. Sun shine in the window at breakfast time and sun in the window of the sitting room in the evening - magnificent views with privacy and the host family living on the farm. Why not visit our website for more. google www.yorkshire bungalow.com

It was a pleasure to meet 3 generations of the family. They enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the farm, the children loved romping about in the garden, feeding carrots to the horses and then family walks seeing the spring flowers. Much excitement when the ewes and tiny lambs arrived. The WIFI proved a get asset, also the green tourism file and files of all the local attractions. A perfect area for cycling, the bicycles were safely stores in the lockable garage. Grandpa said there is so much to do and not enough time to do all the interesting things in the area. They found time to cycles to Richmond, eight miles away - they enjoyed the beautiful views from the sitting room windows and the lovely sunsets - you can also see the sunrises if you are about early enough!

Lovely location - warm welcome.
The location was perfect for us almost equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. Great for scenic visits and long or short walks. Only a short drive to the nearest town for shops and petrol - Northallerton, an attractive market town with good shops and restaurants/cafes. The property was comfortable, clean, well maintained - everything was easy to use. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were table and chairs outside which we used in the amazing weather we had. There were fresh flowers on our arrival. The bungalow is on a lovely farm which has many footpaths to explore for short walks. It is in fact on the coast to coast path. The owners were very welcoming and helpful.

Greatly enjoyed by 3 generations of the family. The sun is shining, the corn turning golden and the berries ripening. the birds are singing, this year we have masses of swallows - I have seen an owl carrying a mouse! also a pair of wrens near the house. The cock pheasant is protecting his hen, who will have chicks in the long grass. The lambs look very well & the cows with their calves. Kiplin Hall has some fun activities including the Canterbury Tales, Thorpe Perrow has an Abba concert. Thirsk has several race meeting in the near future. James Herriots home town - the museum is the veterinary surgery where he practiced as a vet. Losts of activities are planned at the Sutton Bank visitors centre. The local agricultural shows take place in June, July, August and September all great fun. August is Scorton Feast with 5 days of fun, a gymkhana, trotting, village cricket, the brass band on the village green, sports, fancy dress and the flower and produce tent. Do not forget the autumn colours, the wonderful skies, sunsets and sun rises. See the heather on your drives over the moor.
