Firstly the positives for the Roker hotel are as follows the parking is good and free with your stay and the staff are lovely a big shout out to Ian on reception he is a lovely guy but positives out of the way the negatives are many firstly the carpet in the passage way is filthy and needs replacing and the chandelier on the stairs is thick of dust with bulbs missing not a good start then onto the room we stayed in well I would say it is show over substance what I mean by that is that the glitz and glam of the over the top furniture is maybe there to hide the fact that the room 143 is shabby and tatty and I have to say these rooms are not cheap we got a good deal but I have seen the price we paid almost tripled on other days and it is simply not worth it the painted finishes are very poor and no care has been taken we have stayed in far cheaper rooms than this and they have been far better maintained there is a bizarre metal carpet joining strip running from the bathroom along beside the bed with screw heads sticking up that are rough absolutely shocking that has been missed ( see the attached photos ) there was a socket hanging of the wall ( see the attached photos ) we paid for breakfast and it wasn’t the best overcooked black pudding under cooked tomatoes undercooked greasy hash brown no butter with the toast of which we had last time it seems standards are slipping at the Roker hotel and it is simply not worth it and to be honest there are far better alternatives
