Such a cozy cute pub hotel with a lovely dining indoor/outdoor area. I would come back in a heartbeat!

We stayed for one night to break up a long journey. This is an absolutely fabulous hotel, couldn't believe how good it was when we arrived. Extremely good value for money, we stayed B&B. Room was beautiful and very well equipped and the breakfast very good. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was first class, with a good choice of courses. Service exceptional. Would definitely recommend.

We have stayed at the H & H several times and it just gets better and better. Food & drink is excellent, rooms beautifully appointed and always a lovely warm and inviting atmosphere. Rajesh & his team are simply the best!

Superb!
superb, comfortable and well fitted out rooms with lots of attention to detail. Excellent food at the restaurant and helpful & friendly staff. Would not hesitate to recommend.

This was such a stunning property. The room, bar, resturant were all so lovely. Especially so close to Christmas with all the Christmas trees! Tea and coffee in the room, a free bit of gin too. The staff in the resturant were beyond lovely and the food was Devine. As was the breakfast that was included. Stunning. I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. I won’t lie, I was slightly kept awake by the people in the room above walking around until the late hours of the night and I could hear them talking however everything else was so perfect so I can’t complain. Oh and the parking was free and easy!! Plenty of spaces. 10/10 recommend and can’t wait to return.

I am delighted to give the highest possible review to Hare & Hounds. Before we arrived, we received an email asking us questions in order to give us personalized service. Our room was small but cozy, and well-equipped. The food was also very high-quality.

Having previously lived in Newbury I already knew of the Hare and hounds reputation. The whole weekend was a pleasure, with the the staff being helpful and the meals were excellent.

We absolutely LOVED our stay. We were so comfortable, the staff were wonderful and friendly. The food was excellent. I would totally return and highly recommend !

The hotel has been recently renovated and is clean, new and comfortable. The dining room prepares their own food and is on the whole very good. The wait staff and assistant manager were very professional and service oriented. We had a negative experience with the owner or overall manager, Mr. Joshi. We booked thru Expedia. When our Blue Badge guide attempted to be helpful and drop off our bags in advance of our evening arrival, Mr. Joshi was at the front desk and refused to accept the bags. He said we had booked on Expedia and he had had no credit card information on us so he could not accept our bags. Our guide reached out and said Mr. Joshi refused to talk with us, and had walked away from him. A confirmation email we received stated we could leave our bags if we arrived before regular check in time. Fortunately, our guide was service oriented and went above and beyond to take care of our bags. He drove back to Highclere Castle, worked out for our bags to be locked away by the gate guard, and contacted our taxi driver scheduled to pick us up. It was unfortunate as Mr. Joshi marred an otherwise pleasant expereince presumably because we booked thru Expedia!

Dear Melaniethank you for your comments above. I do not wish to contradict you in any way. Nevertheless, it would be remise of me not to let you know that what was related to you is not correct.I informed the gentleman that arrived in the morning wishing to leave the luggage within the hotel, that we had no secure baghoild, and that we could not accept bags on behalf of someone who had not as yet checked in, due to the luggage not being insured. I am afraid that the facts related to you also did not state that the driver was cantankerous and his demands were bordering on bullying.I trust that this will help to clarify the matter.All the best with your travels.

Poor restaurant service
Bedrooms are great. The thing that lets the hotel down is the poor service in the restaurant. Was sat down with a menu, no drink order taken and then left on my own. I had to go into the kitchen to ask if there was any staff around to take my order after nearly 15mins. Ordered a starter and a main. Sat for nearly half an hour and then my main turned up without my starter being served. Had to wait again for my starter to come. On top of that,the restaurant is cold and draughty to sit in.

Such a quaint, beautiful inn. We stayed in the "Hoof" room and although small, it met all our needs. Extremely clean and very welcoming. The staff was suburb. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the food was above our expectations.

We were returning from Portsmouth ,but running late heading back to west Wales ,so googled where to stay ,and this lovely pub came up Me and my partner could not fault it ,Romesh and all his team couldn’t do enough for us ,The room was spotless with everything catered for ,even a decanter with sloe gin for us to drink,real milk in small bottles,even a coffee maker We booked a table ,the food we could not fault ,great choice on the menu , Can’t wait to have a return visit ,wish we had stayed for the week and commuted to Portsmouth every day Christopher Barras

We stay here quite regularly. It is a friendly, atmospheric experience. The rooms are quirky and incredibly clean and functional. We love the slow gin taster too! Breakfasts are generous and delicious. The evenings are welcoming in the pub. We look forward to our next stay.

It’s a very charming pub hotel and the staff are very friendly, but it is on a busy road and the rooms in the front of the pub are noisy, so bring ear plugs, or ask to have rooms further back in the stables. Our friends stayed in the annex which was noisy too - bottles being thrown into trash bins throughout the night, etc and work was being done by someone at 5am. Great location though for Donnington Grove Golf Club and Highclere Castle.

Obviously fairly recently refurbished to a high standard, our room was excellent albeit a little on the small side. The staff were excellent, particularly the gentleman on reception during our stay who was delightful. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food and service was also first rate.

Very nice hotel.
Wonderful helpful staff. All very pleasant. Service in restaurant let it down as we had to wait so long. Breakfast very good but again a very long wait. Hotel was lovely but just the restaurant service wasn’t great at all. Rooms very nice, small but ample. Fans were greatly appreciated. Toiletries very good too and excellent hair dryer!
