My first impression of The Wilshire Grand Hotel in West Orange was that it looked nice from the outside, but that quickly changed once I got to my room. As soon as I walked in, I could tell it wasn’t clean—there were stains on multiple surfaces, which was really off-putting.
I also had an issue with the door. The extra safety lock didn’t work, and when I went to the front desk, I was told there basically isn’t one and that just shutting the door is enough. Maintenance was sent up, but the person didn’t have any uniform or identification, which made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. He showed me how to lock it, but then when I tried to leave, the door wouldn’t unlock properly and I had to struggle with it.
There was also visible mold near the ice machine, which was concerning. On top of that, the walls are extremely thin—you can hear every door opening and closing. It was loud all night, and I barely got any rest.
I ended up leaving before sunrise because I just didn’t feel comfortable staying any longer. Overall, the hotel looks nice at first glance, but the experience did not match that at all.
