We're a small family that owns one rental house — this one — and we run it the way we'd want to be hosted. Chateau Marquette is a fully renovated four-bedroom Cape Cod set in The Riviera neighborhood of New Buffalo, Michigan, just 75 minutes from Chicago and built for the kind of multi-generational weekends that make for the best memories.

The house sleeps up to 12 across four bedrooms, a dedicated bunk room, and two queen sleeper sofas in the lower-level theater room. There's room for kids, grandparents, the dog, and everyone in between — and the layout is genuinely designed for groups, not retrofitted for them.

What makes this house special for families
A dedicated bunk room for the kids. Four twin beds, bright yellow walls, fun aesthetic and plenty of room for them to make it their own. Most rentals at this level treat kids as an afterthought. We designed this room for them.

A theater and game room downstairs that handles the rainy day or just 'movie night'. 100-inch screen, two queen sleeper sofas, an arcade cabinet, bumper pool, poker table, popcorn machine. When when you've had enough of the great outdoors, this is the room that delivers...

A fully fenced yard. The dog can be off-leash. We have dog beds and bowls in the mudroom — bring the pup.

A real kitchen for cooking together. Wolf range, full-size everything, custom banquette that seats five comfortably. Stocked with what you'd actually need to cook a real dinner for the whole group.

A private beach across the street. Deeded beach rights to a stretch of Lake Michigan reserved for homes in The Riviera neighborhood. Walk out the front door, cross the street, you're there. Beach gear (cooler, umbrella, chairs, towels, boogie boards, two paddle-boards, a kayak) lives in the garage and is yours.

Kitchen: Wolf range, mint SMEG refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher, KitchenAid mixer, Nespresso machine, full coffee setup, dry bar, custom banquette, microwave and air-fryer.

Entertainment: 100-inch theater screen downstairs, Frame TV in the living room (yes, that painting is a TV...), arcade cabinet, bumper pool, poker table, popcorn machine, board games and books.

Adventure: Six bikes (sized for adults and kids 6+), two stand-up paddle-boards, a kayak, four boogie boards, Yeti Haul cooler, Business & Pleasure beach umbrella and chairs, and more.

Practical: Fast Wi-Fi, dedicated workspace, Tesla EV-charger in the driveway, dual washers and dryers, Aesop bath products, hotel-grade linens, three-and-a-half full bathrooms.

The neighborhood
You're in Harbor Country — the stretch of southwest Michigan coast that Chicago has quietly claimed as its weekend. Walkable from the house: The Postboy (excellent dinner spot), The Stray Dog (waterfront, rooftop), Nancy's Ice Cream (kids' favorite), and the New Buffalo farmers market. A short drive: Granor Farm (Michelin-recognized farm dinner), Red Arrow Roasters (best coffee in the area), Susan's in Sawyer (date night), Redamak's (the burger institution), Warren Dunes State Park (the climb the kids will remember), Spring Creek Equestrian Center (trail rides and lessons). The wineries (Round Barn, Tabor Hill, Domaine Berrien) and Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks are all within 20-25 minutes.

Getting here
Drive in — you'll want a car. New Buffalo is about 75 minutes from downtown Chicago in normal traffic, longer on summer Fridays. Free on-site parking for 3-4 cars. There's a Tesla charger in the driveway. The South Shore Line stops in New Buffalo if you'd rather train, and South Bend Regional Airport (SBN) is the closest commercial airport at about 35 minutes.

We're a Chicago family. We bought this house because we love this part of Michigan, and we rent it because we want other families to have weekends like ours here. When you book with us, you're talking to the family — directly. We're available by text, by email, and we'll often meet first-time guests in the driveway to walk through the sauna and hot tub. If anything's off during your stay, we want to know right away. Almost everything is fixable in the same day.
