The wide-open sky, wonderful light, clean air, clear water, and the fascinating and unique nature of southern Öland have always attracted artists and have a soothing effect on both body and soul. Our property, dating back to 1932—the historic village store and a captain’s house—is bordered by blooming lilac and rose hedges and surrounded by forests and meadows. Sacks full of coffee beans and spices used to be stored in the attic of the colonial trading post; today, it’s a modern loft apartment for 2 to 4 people spanning 95 square meters. The 5-meter-high room with exposed beams is an architectural experience with a sculptural character. The dormer opens onto the south-facing balcony, where, under the radiant Öland sky, your gaze can wander all the way to the pine forest by the sea. Large historic wooden windows let in plenty of light, and the evening sun bathes the room in golden light. There are no walls; instead, custom-built fixtures and the clay-plastered fireplace divide the space into a kitchen, sleeping area, and lounge featuring a BoConcept sofa and an Yngve Ekström armchair. History harmonizes with architecture and design, allowing the apartment to tell its own story.

The open kitchen is spacious and equipped with high-quality appliances, perfect for cooking with passion using locally sourced ingredients from the neighborhood farm stands. The separate sleeping area, featuring a box-spring bed (Hülsta 180 cm), is defined by a handcrafted natural wood bookshelf housing a curated collection of books and games. The single bed and sleeper sofa can be arranged flexibly within the space. The spacious, naturally lit bathroom with a large shower and a classic wooden window is located one floor below in the generous entryway—featuring warm terracotta tones instead of cold tiles. A cozy seating area invites you to relax in the garden. The property is surrounded by old Öland limestone walls and lilac and rose hedges and is completely secluded. The old store is not in use; you have the building all to yourself, and you can park your car right next to the house.

The picturesque village of Stora Frö is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of South Öland and is ideal for hikes, bike rides, and walks. Haga-Park Beach offers swimming piers, kitesurfing lessons, and a windsurfing school, with two good restaurants along the way. On the pine-covered cliffs, you can walk southward with a breathtaking view of the sea all the way to the artists’ village of Mörbylanga. Wooden stairs lead down to the sea, and there are cozy benches and barbecue areas. This section is considered the most impressive part of the Öland Hiking Trail. To the north, the trail winds through forests and fields to Vickleby, Öland’s most beautiful village, featuring cafés and Capellagarden. Stora Frö is an ideal starting point for exploring southern Sweden. Our loft apartment looks forward to offering its guests an unforgettable getaway!
