The Space:
Acre Away by Tiny Away is located in the peaceful town of Kangaroo Ground, just a 47-minute drive from Melbourne and an hour’s drive from Yarra Ranges National Park. Nearby, you'll find Panton Hill Pub, Montsalvat Artists’ Colony, Fondata Italian Restaurant, and parks like Banksia Park and Ruffey Lake Park.
The tiny house stands free-standing on the high ground of a 20-acre equine property surrounded by horses, ponies, and wildlife that passes by occasionally to keep you company.
A comfortable 139-square-foot tiny home with easy water access, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and gas-heated shower.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Just a heads-up, you might occasionally hear the noise of chainsaws, the sound of tractors shifting hay, and the occasional buzz of riding motorbikes.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house, except for the arena, horses, and ponies paddock, which must be arranged with the host in advance.
Guests are welcome to bring their horses overnight, with agistment available at $30 per horse per night.
The Neighborhood:
Acre Away is a peaceful retreat located in Kangaroo Ground, just 47 minutes from Melbourne and an hour from Yarra Ranges National Park. Visitors can enjoy bushwalking, scenic lookouts, and nearby parks like Banksia Park and Ruffey Lake Park.
What’s more, the charming Hurstbridge Village is not so far away, offers local markets, cafes, and restaurants, such as the Hurstbridge Deli & Larder, which serves delicious home-style meals. Nearby, you'll find Montsalvat, an artists' colony, and Massaros Estate, a 25-acre property surrounded by vineyards and gardens.
Just a bit further, Yarra Ranges National Park is home to the Mountain Ash, the world's tallest flowering tree, set amidst lush forest landscapes and clean fresh air.
Getting Around:
By car:
- 3.6 km, and 5 min drive from Hurstbridge
- 43.5 km drive from Melbourne CBD. 47- 48 mins easy drive reachable by 2WD.
By public transport:
- Hursbridge Train Station is located 4km or 6 minutes. No public transport to the 'Acre Away'. It is a 1 hour walk 3.9km walk up a very steep hill. Uber available between $13 - $16
Other Things to Note:
- Firewood costs $20 per tub
- No smoking inside, except outdoors
- No unregistered guests or visitors allowed
- Expect potential wildlife such as kangaroos, ducks, & foxes
- We have horses on the property and 2 cute Cavoodle dogs
- Telstra, Optus & Vodafone has good signal while the rest has no signal
- Farm Guidelines will be sent closer to your check-in—please remember to review them.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property.
- Keep in mind that outdoor cooking, BBQ grill, and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the [compost/cassette] toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
