Solmar Apartments comprises a two bedroom penthouse designed to accommodate up to 4 adults / children with a spectacular view over Marsascala’s characteristic fishing port and the open sea beyond.

Centrally located and set just back from the harbour front on a quiet non-thoroughfare street, the apartment offers calm and will allow you to enjoy Marsascala’s seaside location and its traditional relaxed social life-style making for a fascinating holiday for the whole family.

The penthouse is just a 5 minute walk from the Marsaskala bus terminus from where you can reach all corners of Malta and Gozo in comfort and low cost without having to worry about driving or parking. We can organise rapid and efficient transfer from the airport to the penthouse with immediate check in, obtain 7 day bus pass tickets for you. We can also organise bespoke private guided visits should you so require.

A butcher, baker, fishmonger, mini supermarkets, local fishermen (for the early riser) and fresh vegetable stalls are all within a stone’s throw, meaning that a car is not needed for everyday necessities.

The penthouse is modernly furnished and has been finished to a high standard combining simple elegance and practical functionality that includes efficient and silent invertor technology AC units in each room that can also be used for heating in the colder months.

It is extremely light and airy and comprises an open plan kitchen / dining / sitting room area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms equipped with generously dimensioned showers (the main bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom). The beds in each bedroom can be arranged as either a large king-sized double bed or separate 90 cm x 2 meter twin beds. The apartment’s master bedroom is just large enough to add an extra child’s bed or cot if required. The orthopaedic mattresses are comfortable and duvets, bed linen and towels are all supplied. A hair dryer is also provided in each apartment.

The kitchen has been thought out so that it will be a pleasure should you prefer to stay in and dine al-fresco on the terrace admiring the evening view over the harbour. The all-electric kitchen is equipped with oven, microwave, induction hob, hood, toaster and kettle and of course a dishwasher to make you feel at home. In addition, each apartment has a clothes washing machine, clothes drying racks, iron and ironing board.

There is free internet / WiFi as well as an Android box in each apartment so that you can pick up many of your favourite channels. If you have subscriptions to streaming channels such as Amazon Prime or Netflix, please bring your User ID and Passwords with you so you can log on via the Android box.


A children’s play park with an impressive range of activities for various ages can be reached within 10 minutes on foot.

A number of water sports such as scuba diving, sailing, fishing are all to be found in the region.

For those interested in history, Valletta, the 3 Cities and the megalithic temples of Tarxien are all within 10 – 20 minutes by car.

A very pleasant and wide promenade running along the waterfront around the bay with its numerous restaurants and bars is particularly agreeable for an evening stroll. Along the way you will come across designated cordoned-off bathing areas with direct access to the sea from the flat rocks via short ladders. The water is crystal clear and its temperature is most welcoming from late Spring through to late Autumn.

Nearby, St Thomas’ Bay with its sandy beach can be reached by a 5 minute bus ride.
The one thing you will be short of is time to sample everything on offer.

The airport is less than 20 minutes away by taxi and the hosts will happily organise an airport pick up or car hire upon request.

Although the apartment block does not have its own parking, being on a quiet and non-thoroughfare street means that it is usually fairly easy to find a place to park close to the apartment.

It should be noted that the penthouse being on the 3rd floor without a lift is not suitable for persons with reduced mobility. This being said, the stairways are wide and very easy to climb.

To avoid misunderstandings, please note the following:
a) Included in the nightly rental is 10kWh of electricity/day, which is more than adequate for average usage. For extra consumption, a coin meter is provided in the apartment set at €1 buys an extra 4 kWh of electricity. Please note that during periods of extreme Summer heat, you may need to add a coupleof Euros per day extra to fully cover AC consumption.
b) There is a stay tax imposed by the Maltese Tourist Authority of €0.50/guest/night. This applies to persons of 18 years and older and is capped at €5/person per stay in Malta. This tax will be collected upon check-in at the apartment.

• Normal check in times are 16:00 to 22:00
• Normal check out times are 08h00 – 10h00

Where the booking schedule allows, we will try and accommodate you for late check outs and early check ins.

For check outs after 12h00 it will be necessary to reserve an extra night’s accommodation where availability permits

For check ins outside of normal times, when it is possible, we need to ask for a participation to the extra cost incurred as follows:
• 22h00 - 24h00 late check in fee of €30 which includes airport transfer
• 24h00 - 08h00 night time check in and check out fee of €50 which includes airport transfer

Fees are payable in cash to the person checking you in / out.

Unfortunately i was not able to fully enjoy this apartment as i was away for business most part of the day during my 1 week stay. Still, it was the perfect place to come home to at the end of the day, to sit down on one of the balconies with a drink, relax and appreciate the amazing view of the bay. Apartment was clean, spacious and well equipped. Comfortable beds. Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Being only 64, i enjoyed my daily exercises walking up the stairs... the view is worth the effort. I highly recommend this place to anyone and hope to be able to return for another visit soon. Special thanks to Cynthia for her warm welcome and for helping me find the perfect route for my daily (15 minute) commute through the maze of construction sites around the airport.

We have previously provided a review after extending our stay to a total of 3 weeks. After the considerable due diligence that we undertook to find the best accommodation in this location, this property met all of our expectations and requirements. What a great property.

Both Peter & Cynthia were great to communicate with & very helpful from day 1. Fresh fruit & veg & seafood purchased at the waterfront 3 mins walk from the apartment, as well as supermarket items, butchers, bakery within 5 mins walk. Restaurants catering to every need are along the waterfront 3-5 mins walk. Bus stop 2 mins walk or bus terminus 5 mins walk took us to all the busy locations where a car was not practical. We also hired a car & always found parking in our street at odd times. The accommodation is quite modern & has many (well thought through) features like plenty of space for toiletries in the bathrooms, double glazed windows & sliding doors for silence@ night, good sized practical kitchen with an additional breakfast bar/island bench for eating/food prep separate to the dining room table, plenty of cupboard/draws space for clothes, luggage/other items, shoe rack & hanging rack at doorway very practical. Office/study space allowed us to work from our laptops when needed. Plenty of power points & wifi was very quick. Building & apartment security with video intercom guaranteed ourselves or our belongings were never at risk but after being here for 3 weeks you realise it is a very safe community anyway. Street neighbors are very friendly. We lived on the terraces mostly off the loungeroom. The large double opening sliding doors made the terrace with amazing views an extension of our living space & there was always a nice flow of air. Absolutely highly recommended.

Great location, exceptional harbour views, access to local transit, spacious, roomy, quiet, close to restaurants, markets, bakeries, coffee shops etc. There are 5 balconies included and one is large enough for sun bathing. The apartment was larger than we expected, well equipped kitchen, bedding and linens. Just be aware that the apartment is on the 4th level and there is no lift. We wouldn't hesitiate to stay here again.

We were met at the airport by Cynthia who dropped us off at our apartment . She looked after our cases as we were too early to check in . The apartment had the wow factor and more than met our expectations. Unfortunately after 2 days we had a family emergency and had to immediately leave the apartment and catch a flight home . Cynthia once again came to our rescue and took us to the airport , Both Cynthia and the owner have been kind and generous and I would not hesitate in recommending other people to stay here.

I was there for close to 3 months. Location was perfect as I didn't want to be in a tourist area and Marsaskala isn't real touristy. I wasn't to pleased with the price quoted on line vs what I was told for cleaning from the property manager. Nore was I too pleased with one of the welcome books greatly misquoting a price for private tours from the property manager again. I was having a few issues with water pump and that took a while to get straightened out. Once Peter the owner got involved with some of the issues that were arising everything was handled quickly with follow-up. When you stay in a place for 3 months, things will come up. Overall I loved it and would come back to The Penthouse!!!! PS, make sure you research your weather and the Sahara dust depending on what time of year you come.

Hmmm. Difficult to review this experience. So be clear, this is MY opinion and feelings from my stay. very spacious. Close walking distance to buses to/from airport and to get anywhere. Access to restaurants and convenience store nearby. Nothing negative to say about the apartment EXCEPT for me, I like to take a COLD SHOWER by choice. You have to turn the hot water tank switch on one hour before a shower and then the hot water only lasted about 4 minutes which was a bit frustrating. I read the reviews before renting this place and the ā€œwarm and helpfulā€ greetings expressed from other tourist…I did not get that. I received an indifferent treatment. I wanted to take one of the tours that was promoted in the apartment guide book priced at 150 Euros for up to 4 people. When I called, the guy wanted to charge me 50 Euros per hour.

Very comfortable stay in a location that let us travel around Malta easily. Easy walk to the restaurants and promenade around the bay. Spacious and clean apartment with great communication with the hosts and property managers. It was a great help having transport to the apartment and back to the airport! Thank you!

I had a great time staying in the flat the views where great. close to restaurants and bars, and not far from the main bus stop. the slight down side was the flat was on the top floor and there was some road noise as it over looked a main road. but sitting out on the balcony looking over the harbour was way worth it. communication with the hosts great. i had a problem with the shower and they where there within a short time and the problem was solved. I would highly recommend a stay at this flat.

The penthouse is in a quiet neighborhood with spectacular views over the village and harbour. It is 72 steps up to the condo and there is not a lift-the views are the reward! The apartment had a well supplied kitchen and we had all we needed. The water pressure is light. The linens could do with a refresh. There are restaurants, cafes and grocery stores close by. Local buses stop very close to the condo making it easy to get around. Cynthia picked us up and dropped us back to the airport which was very helpful. She took us on a day long tour to many sites on Malta that we really enjoyed-she is very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area. There is a very nice beach with restaurants only a 20 minute walk away. We really enjoyed our time in Malta at this apartment and the area.

We had a splendid time in the Solmar apartment. Collected at the airport by Cynthia who gave us a good introduction to Malta and the running of the apartment. The apartment itself was clean, tidy and well appointed. Our stay was greatly enhanced by a very comfortable bed and very quiet air conditioning. Many thanks.

Wir (Eltern mit 2 Töchtern 20 u. 17 Jahre) haben das Penthouse für eine Woche gemietet. Das sehr geräumige und helle Penthouse ist modern eingerichtet und von den Balkonen hat man einen traumhaften Blick auf den Hafen. Es bietet sehr viel Raum, um sich zu entfalten. Frühstücken auf dem großen Balkon auf der Rückseite des Apartments und abends konnte man die Aussicht auf den Hafen von den anderen Balkonen, bei einem Glas Wein oder Bier, genießen. Auch die 2 Bäder, eines mit Waschmaschine, sind von Vorteil. Nach unseren Tagesausflügen konnten wir die Wohnung durch öffnen der Balkontüren, innerhalb von ein paar Minuten auf angenehme Temperaturen kühlen, sodass wir (Anfang September) fast auf die Klimaanlage verzichten konnten. Auch die Lage der Wohnung ist super. In kurzer Entfernung gibt es die zentrale Bushaltestelle von Marsaskala mit einer guten Anbindung in alle Richtungen. Auch die Restaurants, Bars und Pubs an der Hafenpromenade sowie kleinere Supermärkte sind gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die St. Thomas-Bay kann man in kurzer Zeit zu Fuß oder aber auch per Bus erreichen. Wir möchten uns nochmals ganz herzlich bei Cynthia und Georg für den Transfer vom und zum Flughafen bedanken und auch dass Sie uns die Explorerbuskarte besorgt haben. Unseren Malta-Urlaub haben wir sehr genossen und festgestellt, dass eine Woche viel zu kurz ist, um die Insel und das Meer mit dem klaren Wasser und den vielen kleinen Buchten zu genießen.

Lovely town/area, with great restaurants and pubs. Bus terminus was a few minutes walk away, which were very easy to use. Local shops were around the corner. Villa was very spacious and exactly as described in the advert, beds were so comfortable and very clean. Overall we were very pleased with the accommodation and area, we don't feel we could have choosen better.

The flat was really brilliant with its 5 balconies and a lot of space. Almost everything what you desire was available. Only 2 points to mention is that a user manual for the ashing machine would be helpful and the point that the user manual for the flat itself was not quite up to date: for example the bakery mentioned was closed and the property was set to "for sale". Apart from this the overall impression of the flat and the support of Cynthia and George was great ! Thanks again !
