Poppy's Hideaway on the Shenandoah River!





Welcome to Poppy's Hideaway, our family getaway, a name provided by our five grandsons. Enjoy a quiet romantic weekend for two or invite friends for a great weekend hangout. River fun, mountain hiking, biking, horseback riding, strolls down the Luray Greenway or take a drive down Skyline Drive; all are within a short distance of the cabin. Our home is 6 miles from downtown Luray and 3 miles from the Shenandoah River Outfitters.



The cabin offers 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, warm cozy amenities, huge yard space and is directly on the Shenandoah River. Purpose built as a vacation cabin, you will not find a more-roomy private river experience than this anywhere in the area. Acres of lawn surround the cabin on all side and there are no neighbors in sight. Hundreds of feet of private shoreline mean you can nap in the hammock, fish or take the canoes out without being bothered by others or hearing the noise or seeing the sight of other neighbors.



One king bed and two queen beds will comfortably sleep six and we have additional bedding for a max of 8. The kitchen offers gas cooking, refrigerator with ice maker, everything you will need for a great meal. If you'd rather cook outside, we've got you covered with both gas and charcoal grills.



On a rainy day, there is still plenty to do inside. Free Wifi internet and satellite TV will keep you connected. There is a landline phone with free local and long distance calling. There are books, board games and movies to rummage through. Everywhere you turn, this house has what you're looking for!



Stunning mountain views and sunsets from the covered porch or enjoy the river views from the sun deck. There is something for everyone and NO traffic, just a relaxing weekend hide-away! Make a huge campfire and tell stories with your friends late into the evening hours!

Please take your trash with you. There is dumpster access at the Shenandoah River Outfitters. The house manager can take them for a tip of $5 per bag, if you would prefer.

Weekend in Luray

I wanted to take my kids to Luray Caverns and to explore Skyline Drive because those were good memories from my childhood. The kids (10 & 12) enjoyed both. We loved being right on the river but I'll admit the bugs were out in full force this first weekend of May. This was our first time renting a pet friendly home so we could bring our small dog and I am thrilled to say that you could not tell that other dogs had been staying there. The home was clean and did not smell at all like "dog." Thanks for the memories!

Riverside Perfection

Our family had a wonderful few days here. The home is lovely, set back from the road with sweeping lawns. Once you round into the back there is another huge lawn and direct river access. The view is beautiful from every direction. There are several types of boats to use and easy to get to the river. We also really enjoyed the inner tubes and rocking lawn chairs. We spent many hours playing in the water and swinging on the overlook. The home itself is lovely and we loved the wide deck where swallows would zoom by and land in the morning. There are many places to sit and the bedrooms were comfortable. We enjoyed the gas fireplace in cooler days. The kitchen had everything we needed and everything was in good working order. One thing to be prepared for is to remove your own trash or pay 5 a bag for removal which we found convenient and worth it. Lastly, the fire pit is a crowning jewel of this property- well stocked firewood and easy to set up. You’ll enjoy roaring by fires under the stars! The location was great- it has a far away feel but is actually close to grocery stores, hikes, and the caverns. We loved staying here and would definitely return for another stay.

Wonderful Spring Break Vacation

We absolutely loved staying here. Our dog enjoyed the large yard to run in. We loved the firepit for making smores at night. The house had a beautiful view of the river. Everything was clean, beds were comfortable, and kitchen was perfect. The house was also a 20 min drive to the National Park entrance where we spent most of our days hiking. We would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic property

This is a beautiful cabin. It was clean, had everything we needed and it is on a beautiful lot on the river. It matches the pictures perfectly and was a wonderful place to spend a couple of days.

Fantastic property

We loved the weekend at Poppy’s hideaway. The weather was perfect so we were able to spend the days entirely outside on the big lawn, by the river, in the kayaks and on the swings. But even if we’d been stuck inside, it would have been cozy and comfortable enough for all of us. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment for cooking and trailheads were just a short drive away.

Had a great stay!

We had an amazing time at poppy's! The cabin is super cozy, the view is lovely. The location is only 12 minutes away from most major Luray attractions. Hughly recommend!

Bugs inside the house

We are not huge complainers and we’re fine with bugs outside the house because that’s part of the point of escaping to the country, but we were frustrated by the number of bugs (boxelder beetles) inside the house. The sliding glass doors on the river side of the house weren’t well sealed, letting dozens of boxelder beetles inside the river-side bedrooms (which included the master bedroom). In addition, the window well of the master also had hundreds of dead boxelder beetles on the inside because the frame of the screen was bent and there was a mud dauber nest (thankfully abandoned) inside the living room slider. We sprayed the sliders on the morning of the second day and were then able to remove the remaining beetles after that, but it was frustrating and was clearly a result of poor maintenance on the sliding glass doors.

Very very clean. Comfy beds, well stocked kitchen. The area underneath the house is where we spent the majority of our time. Love the Pet Rock Garden!!! And to think it was just a few minutes from my home.

Fantastic getaway

Property is perfectly located....a private and peaceful retreat yet close enough to Skyline Drive and the awesome Luray attractions. Cabin is very comfortable, yard is perfect for all outdoor activities & s'mores at the fire pit, river is amazing for fishing, tubing wading, canoeing and exploring. Everyday we discovered something new and saw a variety of beautiful wildlife on the property. Definitely a special place!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Poppy's Hideaway! Everything in the listing and pictures are just like the property. The phone service is hit or miss as well as wifi. We did have to wait an hour for the house to finish being cleaned and the grass was really high upon arrival on Friday. So I did contact Kevin once we got there and it did not get cut until Tuesday since it was a holiday weekend. Over all we enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

Fabulous house and location!

The outside seating area under the house was perfect! Great place to hang out even if the weather isn't great and includes seating and a TV. Nice big yard with direct river access. There are 3 bedrooms with 1 king and 2 queen beds, the only other sleeping is on the couch in the main living room. We are planning for a return trip!

Awesome House

This place is better than expected, it was awesome! The area under the house was expansive and a lifesaver on rainy days. Views of mountains and the historic Shenandoah River were spectacular. Spotty WiFi and cell service forced everyone to enjoy nature’s views and each other, just what we wanted.

Amazing home and beautiful property!

This cozy beautiful home was perfect for our family getaway. We fished during the day, explored Luray with the kids, hiked, went to the caverns. And at night we enjoyed the fire pit, playing games, and grilling out. The downstairs living area with games is so much fun. And everyone gets to paint a rock when they come visit. My kids LOVED that. The river is beautiful. We sat on the hammock and swing by the water. Everything was just perfect. The home had everything we needed. We will be back!
