"A Hotel You Should Absolutely Avoid"
I never imagined such distress.
During a recent stay in London, I returned to my room to find both locked suitcases missing. Having previously experienced theft at another hotel, I now take strict precautions:
- I lock my suitcases with belts
- I set “No Cleaning Required”
- I keep all valuables with me
Even when stepping out for breakfast, I follow them.
The front desk said they “had an idea.” A newly checked-in guest was mistakenly shown to the room opposite mine and reported suitcases inside. The guest was moved, and the room left untouched.
When I accompanied staff to that room, I found my suitcases—locks destroyed, contents scattered. A 1-liter water bottle had been emptied and thrown inside. It seemed like retaliation for finding no valuables.
I was shocked. I understand theft can happen, which is why I take precautions. But if locked suitcases aren’t safe, must we carry them around the city?
This hotel charges neither budget nor luxury. It offers uncommon amenities for its price range: fridge, coffee maker, umbrella, bathrobe, full English breakfast. Had this not happened, I’d have considered it my regular hotel.
The hotel contacted police, who declined to act. Staff apologized, but no concrete measures followed. Though insurance was mentioned, I’ve had no follow-up.
The fact that both rooms were accessible suggests the perpetrator was internal. Without accountability, I fear recurrence. This hotel is unsafe. Avoid it.
