One of our most cherished homes, Cockspur Street has been a favourite with guests for centuries. Once a members’ club within a Norwegian embassy, this home's walls have seen it all – from gentlemen taking whisky, to attachés taking shelter during the Blitz. And it hasn’t lost a jot of its elegance. Hefty beams overlook modern upholstery, oak panelling is hung with nature-inspired paintings, and the books contain a collection of English wit. And no matter the era, you couldn’t be better located for the sights and sounds of iconic Trafalgar Square, just two minutes' walk from your doorstep. Cockspur Street has been restored lovingly by its owners, its gorgeous original features gracefully preserved and offset by stylish, contemporary touches. The home’s marvellous panelled walls, soaring beams and stone fireplace have a cocooning, ageless effect. This is a place where time stands still, a peaceful hideaway tucked away in the beating heart of central London. The cheerful mustard-hued chairs in the sitting room invite you to indulge in discussion, or relax with a cup of tea and a good book. Follow the wooden panelling to the primary bedroom, which delights with its modern art, office desk nook and super king size bed. The second bedroom soothes with hues of white and duck egg blue. The built-in wardrobes offer plenty of room for all your belongings and a second super king size bed promises a restful night's sleep. While there’s a strong sense of history here, the bathrooms with walk-in showers and marbled walls offer every modern comfort. Almost touched by the shadow of Nelson’s Column, you can actually spy Admiral Nelson from the sitting room’s window. With Charing Cross, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden and Soho all within walking distance, you couldn't find a better location. Set out to explore your new neighbourhood. With a plethora of shops, iconic sites and cultural heavyweights, such as the National Gallery and the British Museum, just a hop, skip and a jump away, you won't be at a loss for things to do. Fancy a stroll and a picnic? The leafy bounds of St James Park can be reached in ten minutes.
