"We checked in to this beautiful old inn, and were greeted by owner Johnathan, we were shown to our room and told if we needed anything just ask. Being the winter the kitchen is closed Monday and Tuesday which Johnathan apologised for, we replied it’s absoulutly fine. He told us of the local Chinese just up the road and said please feel free to bring it back to our room to eat, which we did. Excellent Chinese takeaway. "The property is a lovely place that has kept its unique original features. The Victorian facades and interior are refreshingly maintained. The staff are all very welcoming and genuinely friendly. Well located in a rural spot but 5 minutes walk into town, via the sea front promenade."

"We spent a night at the Wheatsheaf, to break the long drive from Scotland to Berkshire. Our room, although not huge, was clean, with crisp, white bed linen on a very comfy bed, and with lovely views of the pretty village church. Although warned about the frequent bell ringing, it did not disturb us in any way. Nice, white towels were provided in the shower room. Lucy and her team couldn't have been more welcoming, efficient, and helpful. It was convenient to be able to enjoy our evening...

"Stayed 2 nights. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Ate there 2 nights and food was great. Free on site parking, lovely lounge to sit in, games room and small pool. Would love to stay here again."

"I booked this very quickly by just searching Google for "Lake District hotels" one evening and I was very pleased. It is expensive, but it is a 4* hotel, so you would expect to pay a higher price than others. We found the staff brilliant and the room fantastic, although we did get a free upgrade on arrival which was nice, so I can't comment on the room we actually booked! The location is perfect, lovely views and really convienient for the Lake Cruises next door. We did not use the Spa, but...

"My stay at the Shakespeare was short but will be remembered as a really good experience. I felt like a truly valued customer, everyone was so friendly and helpful. The room was good and the bed was huge!! It was 2 lovely nights sleep, nice hot shower in the morning followed by a cooked breakfast. It really set me up for the day. I would most certainly revisit and can recommend it for a good place to stay in Kendal."
