Rolima - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 8

The views from Rolima, which fan out over the southern tip of Lefkada and across the Ionian Sea to Ithaca and Kefalonia, are worth the trip alone. But this pristine, beautifully finished villa also tempts with its secluded location, its backdrop of verdant wooded hills, its proximity to the beach, water sports facilities and tavernas of buzzing Vassiliki, its azure infinity pool, and its effortless, indoor-outdoor lifestyle. All in all, it's virtually impossible to resist.

Inside: accommodation at Rolima is laid out over two floors.

The ground floor has an elegant symmetry about it, with a spacious, beautifully finished, open-plan communal area at the centre and one bedroom on either side.

The communal hub is a perfect representation of the property’s aesthetics and sets the tone for the rest of the house. Three giant, floor-to-ceiling glass doors open out onto the main terrace and bring in the fabulous views of the Ionian Sea and southernmost tip of Lefkada; pale sandy floors and pristine white walls and ceilings accentuate the serene luminosity; exposed stone walls root the property in its terroir; and wicker and reed lampshades add a dash of summery vitality.

To the right is a comfy L-shaped sofa and a TV, while to the centre is a wooden dining table and six stylish wooden chairs. The dining table connects with the kitchen’s central island and complements the kitchen’s bespoke, pale wood cabinetry and drawers. A light-well with a glass door to the rear of the communal space allows for gentle breezes to run through the ground floor.

Passing a guest loo, a corridor behind the kitchen leads to the first bedroom, which is a light-filled double with an en-suite shower room, floor-to-ceiling glass doors, sea views and terrace access.

The second bedroom on the ground floor, also a double, is accessed from near the living area. It is practically a mirror-image of the first and comes with all the same features.

Stairs lead from near the second ground-floor bedroom up to the first floor, which is home to another lightwell with a glass door, and the final two bedrooms, a pair of doubles with en-suite shower rooms, stunning views, and access to a large, shared terrace.

Outside: al fresco life at Rolima revolves around a large sea-view terrace that runs along the front the property. The communal area and the two ground-floor bedrooms flow out seamlessly onto this space, which has been designed and furnished to provide everything you might need for living outdoors. There’s a shaded dining area, tropical-style sunshades that echo the wicker and reed lampshades inside, quality loungers, and an infinity pool that is irresistible.

To the far end of the pool, meanwhile, is a superb, stone-built kitchen under a shady pergola. Equipped with a large built-in barbecue, worktops and a sink, this is where you may well end up preparing those long dinners. The tavernas of Vassiliki are close by, but with Miriam’s setting and its beguiling views, you’ll probably opt to stay in most nights.

Finally, the two bedrooms on the upper floor open out onto a large terrace with both shady and sun-kissed areas and a hot tub. The views from here, which pan out across the blue sea to the northern tips of Ithaca and Kefalonia, are remarkable. And if you have yoga enthusiasts in your group, this is the terrace for them.


Road noise is audible from the property's grounds. The volume may rise or fall depending on climactic conditions such as wind direction.
Perched on the southern coast of Lefkada above the paradisiacal beach of Agiofili, Rolima gazes out across the sea to the islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca. Just 2.5km away round the bay is Vassiliki, a water sports hotspot with a beach, shops and plenty of tavernas.

Other beaches nearby include those at Ammoussa and Afteli, both of which are within a 25-minute drive. The famed beaches of the southwest coast - Egremni and Porto Katsiki - are around 40 minutes away.

The capital of Lefkada, Lefkada Town, with its vibrant summer buzz, its restaurants, bars and shops and its marina, is about an hour away.

Rolima is also well-placed for hiking in Lefkada's interior, where the mountains rise to over 1,100m. There is some truly beautiful scenery and a scattering of unspoilt villages where the way of life remains profoundly connected to the island's ancient traditions and customs.

Lefkada measures 35km from its northern tip to the dramatic white cliffs of Cape Lefkatas in the south and just 15km from east to west. It is, therefore, relatively easy to explore in a week. At its northern point the island is connected to mainland Greece by a floating bridge, while frequent 1-hour ferry crossings connect Vassiliki to Fiskardo on Kefalonia, making it eminently possible to travel further afield.
