I grew up in Hershey, PA. I always loved visiting and exploring Mt. Gretna as a kid and would imagine what the historic cottages might look like inside. They each have such unique character. So this trip was a bit of a childhood dream come true for me and it honestly was just the getaway our family needed!
This cottage is warm and welcoming and fully equipped with what you need to make it your home away from home. We especially loved the screened in front porch and porch swing, small yet fully functional and upgraded kitchen (loved the Keurig coffee maker!), and very comfortable master bedroom. The house was comfortable and accommodated our family well, including a 5 year old and 11 month old. And as far as Mt. Gretna goes, the cottage's location cannot be beat. Our favorite thing to do was to take daily walks with our son to admire the multitude of unique, historic homes, many of which have fairy gardens and/or other art forms for the passerby to appreciate. We also loved walking to the Jigger Shop, Porch and Pantry, and the Hideaway, all of which provided excellent dining experiences.
Mt. Gretna is short distance from many local attractions. We took the kids to Hershey Park, Chocolate World, and Hotel Hershey, visited Indian Echo Caverns in Hummelstown, went to the Strasburg Railroad and train museum, and did a little antique shopping in downtown Lancaster. Next time we hope to spend more time relaxing in Mt. Gretna, renting a kayak at the lake, hiking to Governor Dick, and visiting a local winery without the kids!
I should mention that the rental company handling this property was excellent in quickly responding to my questions and communications before, during, and after our stay.
I really can't say enough about this place. If forest bathing in a historic, enchanted, artsy little community sounds good to you, don't miss out on this great vacation rental. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to return soon.
