Artemis Cottage is part of a private wildlife preserve home to over 27 exotic African species and boasts 2.5 miles of pristine Colorado Riverfront, adjacent to Colorado Bend State Park. We are located in the middle of local wineries and convenient to both Historical Lampasas and San Saba. With its dark sky designation, it’s a stargazer’s paradise – a magical way to end your evenings. We can provide private chef's services onsite (dinner for six, $300), and the nearby Artemis Lodge (now open) is available for group events, weddings, retreats and corporate escapes.

Whether you're planning a romantic escape or a family adventure, Artemis Cottage offers an unforgettable blend of comfort and awe-inspiring experiences. Book your stay and discover the magic of Texas like never before.

We had an absolute amazing time at the Artemis Ranch! The chef / concierge Kourtney was the absolute best! Adrian the ranch manager even went out of his way to help us get a picture for a school project. Leon was very helpful too. We loved exploring the property and animals and we felt very welcome and comfortable here. We give 10 stars if we could!!

My sons and I stayed here last year for Thanksgiving and they wanted to return with my sister and niece this year to celebrate Christmas. We had a fun week. There was so much to do and see, we didn't need to leave the property for entertainment. Visiting and feeding the giraffes, rhino and zebras was the highlight of the trip.

We had a fantastic stay at this Vista Cottage! It was a beautiful cottage in a very quiet setting. The grandkids loved feeding apples to “Tank” the Rhino and lettuce to the Giraffes! They had many other animals as well! The pool and hot tub were excellent and very relaxing! The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful! I’m sure we will come back and stay again!

Our family had an absolutely unforgettable stay at Artemis Ranch. From the moment we arrived, the host made us feel genuinely welcomed—warm, attentive, and truly invested in making our experience special.The property itself is breathtaking. The beautiful South African–inspired landscape creates the perfect setting to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature. The kids absolutely loved exploring the grounds and were blown away by the free-roaming African wildlife—rhinos, giraffes, and so many other incredible animals. Watching their excitement made the trip even more memorable.The facilities are incredible and thoughtfully stocked. They truly have everything you might need—even fishing gear for the stocked ponds. One of the highlights was the private safari tour. You’re taken out in a fully enclosed, climate-controlled side-by-side to explore the 3,000-acre preserve, and it was an experience our whole family will be talking about for years.Another major plus: the roads throughout the ranch are well maintained, so you do not need a 4x4 vehicle. We were able to comfortably drive the property, and the freedom to explore and hike at our own pace made the stay even more enjoyable.We also opted for the personal chef experience, which was a standout highlight of our trip. A big thank you to Kristine, who went above and beyond to help us choose the perfect meals for both the adults and the kids. Her thoughtful recommendations truly complemented the time we spent on

Our stay was awesome. Seeing the animals and feeding the giraffes was a huge hit for the whole group. We had adults and little kids. We caught fish in the pond. The ranch manager was available to help with anything we needed and they were very accommodating. The cottage itself is in really great shape. The pool is not heated, so if you are booking during colder months be prepared for that.

We enjoyed our stay so much we can’t say a single thing negative. The house, the view, the animals - and more than anything a genuine feel that the staff and owner wanted us to enjoy it as much as they do. Only regret was not having more time. We would go back without question.

This place was amazing. The owner was fantastic. Made us feel right at home. The cottage was very clean with amazing view. Every morning when you awake and walk out onto the 2nd floor deck your subject to see any of different species of animals Ty has on this amazing place. Our last morning we awoke to see a Sika deer standing by the pool. Adriaan was an excellent tour guide. He was very patient with the grand kids while feeding the Rhino and giraffes. Very knowledgeable about the animals and the land. Caught some nice bass in stock pond. We will definitely be back.

Our family had the time of our lives at Artemis Ranch. It honestly feels like the closest you can get to being on safari without leaving the U.S. The peaceful quiet of the ranch combined with the incredible variety of animals made for a magical stay. Watching the wildlife roam was fascinating, but the highlight for us was getting to feed Tank the rhino – a once-in-a-lifetime experience!Chef Kortney’s meals were absolutely delicious, and every dish was prepared with such care that dining itself became a highlight of the trip. Adriaan’s tours around the ranch and animal excursions were equally unforgettable – his knowledge and passion for the wildlife added so much depth to our experience.Artemis Ranch is the perfect blend of adventure, peace, and hospitality. We had the best girls trip here. We enjoyed hanging out by the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and sitting out by the fire pit in the evenings. Saw so many beautiful animals and the views on the ranch were incredible. We are already planning another trip here soon. The owners are the sweetest people.

Family getaway 2025

The property was beautiful and pictures were exactly what we experienced. The vista cottage was perfect. We enjoyed this whole heartily. Grandkids enjoyed pool and hot tub. This was a great experience for our annual family getaways in which we enjoy our family and forget about the busy every day life we live. The safari was a great addition to our trip from feeding Tank the rhino to giving romaine to the giraffes. Enjoyed and would recommend 100%. An unforgettable experience

What an absolutely incredible experience! We stayed for 3 days at the Artemis Ranch at the Vista Cottage. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner, Ty, himself! He went out of his way to give us such an unforgettable experience in every way possible.During our stay, we got a tour of the ranch, seeing all kinds of beautiful wildlife and scenery - the waterfalls were awe inspiring - while learning so much about the animals, the ranch, and even Ty himself! After the tour, we got to stop by and feed Tank the rhino and some giraffes.Words (and even pictures) cannot express how amazing of a time we had here. If you stay here, please do yourself a favor and book 3 nights to truly get the full experience. It's beyond worth it!

An incredible property for our family vacation

Artemis Ranch and Retreat is an absolutely incredible property. It’s truly like being on safari without going to Africa. Our hosts, Ty and Leslie, were so helpful and accommodating throughout our week visiting their property. Our grandchildren were in awe of the animals, from Tank- the rhino to the sweet giraffes, including a new baby, to the zebras and wildebeests, and so many more. The Vista Cottage and the lodge are beautiful properties. Chef Kourtney prepared a delicious picnic lunch for us on the patio at the lodge one day- the views were phenomenal. She also prepared a steak dinner for us one evening and served it at the cottage- again, absolutely delicious. Our last morning, the guys enjoyed shooting sporting clays. There are two wineries nearby with amazing views and fantastic wines. This was such a memorable time. Highly recommend!!

Perfect Vacation

This place is an absolute jewel! The owners are incredibly nice, friendly & welcoming. The cottage is clean & beautiful with everything you need. We were happy making our “stay” our destination. Lush lawn, refreshing pool & inviting hot tub all to yourself with a beautiful view and occasional exotic deer spotting. The stock pond to fish was an added bonus. And the private tour of the ranch, which included visits with the rhino and giraffes, sealed the deal - this was a perfect vacation!

Great Stay!

Our extended family of 6 ranging from 10 to 75 stayed at the Cottage and all had a wonderful time. Ty is a great host and he and his wife gave us a tour of the property which is absolutely amazing! We were able to feed the giraffes and TANK! My daughter said feeding princess the giraffe was the best experience she had during our week long adventure in Texas! Only wish we would have stayed longer! Thanks Ty for a wonderful time.

Amazing Adventure!

We can’t thank Ty and Chef Kourt enough for all they did to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Meeting Tank and the giraffes was such a memorable experience! Touring and learning about the ranch from Ty was so awesome! We requested a menu from Chef Kourt for our Kentucky Derby themed evening and it did not disappoint. From mint juleps, pulled pork sandwiches, buttermilk and hatch chile grits, to a beautiful sunset to cap off the evening, we were wowed every step of the way! This is a stay we will never forget!

Best weekend getaway

From check in to check out, everything was amazing. The pool was a hit of course. The safari tour in the morning was stellar with Koutney. Feeding the giraffes and seeing tank the rhino was an experience up close n out of this world. My wife had the best birthday ever. The stunning views sunrise and sunset leave you in awe. Definitely will be coming back. Thank you for everything.

PEACEFUL

QUIET, WITH NATURE SOUNDS AND THE BUBBLING OF OUR POOL, STARGAZING FROM OUR HOT TUB. AMAZING SCENERY FROM OUR HILLTOP COTTAGE. TANK THE RHINOCEROUS WAS APTLY NAMED BUT A GENTLE GIANT WHEN WE FED HIM APPLES. GRACEFUL GIRAFFES LOVED THE LETTUCE WE HANDED THEM. EXCITING RIDES ON THE RANCH ROADS AND OUR PICNIC ON THE COLORADO RIVER. A WONDERFUL TIME FOR ALL AGES. TY AND LESLIE WERE PERFECT HOSTS.

Amazing Time

Ranch is stunning. Started seeing wild animals as we entered the property. Cottage was immaculate with hot tub and pool. Incredible host who took us around the property. The giraffes and rhino were the best! Sat drinking coffee in the morning as the antelope came within 20 yards of the porch. When hiking the animals would stay closer so we could enjoy seeing them. Highly recommend Artemis Ranch!

Breathtaking

We explored Texas for 16 days and had our best time in the 3 days we stayed at Tys Ranch. Everything was perfect. The lodge, the Ranch itself, the animals and Ty and his wife are 5 Star. We would recommend it for everybody.
