The salt marshes are simply stunning, and Brancaster’s sandy beach is beautiful year-round and offers both a sunny retreat and bracing walks. There are also a series of nature reserves to explore, including the RSPB-managed Titchwell Marsh, whose reed beds and lagoons are home to nesting avocets, marsh harriers and bitterns. Brancaster Staithe is a vibrant village with a rich maritime history, offering a delightful pub, seafood restaurant and a shop selling freshly caught sea and shellfish, and local produce. Both the pub and beach are just a short walk, 500 yards. Why not enjoy a boat trip to Scolt Head Island, which is also a bird sanctuary and nature reserve.

Close by lies sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and golf, along with several award-winning places to eat after you have worked up an appetite. Wells-next-the-Sea, 9 miles, picturesque quay and quaint mix of artisan and traditional seaside shops. The seaside town of Hunstanton, 8.6 miles, with its amusements, small funfair and Sea Life Centre, and sandy beach. Culture vultures will be spoilt for choice, with lots of stately homes to visit, including Holkham Hall, a fine Palladian mansion overlooking Holkham’s beach, Houghton Hall and the Royal Sandringham Estate and museum.
