Auntie’s Cottage is a welcoming homely retreat located within the picturesque mountain village of Makriotika, on the slopes of the mountain ‘Agia Dynati’, offering a quiet stay in a lovely rural setting - away from it all but easy to reach places of interest - and the opportunity for you to experience the serene greek rural life. Because of its location the cottage overlooks the valley of Pylaros and the garden terrace boasts stunning views across the beautiful valley and the sea beyond. It is ideally based for those who love nature and hiking as they will discover beautiful walking trails throughout the surrounding small villages and mountains in the valley. The beautifully well kept outside area provides a secluded setting for lazy days. Within a short walking distance (approx. 130m.) you will find Makriotika village square with a mini market, a cafe or indulge in traditional dishes at the local taverna. Supermarket, bakery and gas station can be found within approximately 1 km. The quaint village of Agia Efimia, a 5 minute drive, offers all amenities from supermarkets, bars, cafes and tavernas to atm machine, pharmacy, tourist information and car/motorbike/motorboat rental places. There are numerous beautiful pebble coves for you to enjoy your swim and scuba diving lessons can be booked. Other outdoor activities, such as horseback riding & water skiing are provided in the area. Within approx. a 7 minute drive you reach the amazing Myrtos beach famed for the beauty of its blue water (voted one of the top ten beaches in the world). Makriotika and "Auntie’s Cottage" are an ideal base for exploring Kefalonia. The village itself is in a great central location regarding distances, giving easy access to all areas of the island, especially the northern part of the island (Agia Efimia, Sami, Assos, Fiscardo, Myrtos beach).

We stayed for three weeks in this lovely house in Makriotika and had a wonderful time. The house is well equipped and has a beautiful terrace with views of the mountains and, in the distance, Agia Efimia and the sea. Having breakfast under the old olive tree was a highlight, and the small courtyard with its bougainvillea is another great place to relax.Sophia, our host, was extremely kind and helpful. Before our late arrival, she had thoughtfully prepared the house with bread, water, olives, beer, and local wine – a very welcoming gesture.The location is ideal: quiet and authentic, with a small supermarket in the village, a nice taverna just 100 meters away, and two more restaurants within walking distance. From here, you can also reach all parts of the island quickly by car.We can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation and would love to return.

Wonderful Cottage with Fantastic Views

I loved staying in this cottage. It is centrally located so it's great for outings. It was quiet and perfect in every way. I truly enjoyed staying here! Highly Recommended!

Superschönes Landhaus

Wir wurden von Sophia mit einem Begrüßungspaket empfangen. Es gab Wein, Bier, Wasser, Tee, Kaffee, frisches Brot, Oliven und Obst. Das Cottage hat die hohen Erwartungen noch übertroffen und war mit Allem Erdenklichen ausgestattet. Sophia war super nett, alles war sehr sauber, die Lage hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

A wonderful place

If you are looking for an authentic Greek stay, be sure to try aunties cottage. Located in a centrally located mountain village with a local busy taverna and butcher and the pleasant town of Agia Effimia nearby. The cottage is really fully equipped and has plenty of space inside and outside. The terrace has sun and shade and a beautiful view over the valley with the sea in the distance. Do not expect 5 star modern glossy luxury, but instead opt for warmth, cosiness and the feeling of coming home in a place where you do not have to lock the door. A car is necessary, but you can park it in the spacious parking space. Sophia is very helpful and her tips took us all over the island. Thanks again Sophia!

Charming and well-equipped cottage in good location

Sophie's property is comfortable and well-equipped, with plenty of outdoor seating areas to enable guests to either catch or avoid the sun at different times of the day. A very peaceful location, quiet during the day and at nighttime. The location is quite central, enabling visitors to Kefalonia to drive both to the North and South of the island on day trips. There is a good local taverna 1 or 2 mins walk down the road and another a 2 minute car drive away, plus small local supermarkets. There are 2 routes to Argostoli, but I highly recommend avoiding the shorter route over the hill at nighttime and sticking to the 10-minute longer coastal route.

Aunties Cottage

Wir haben uns im Cottage sehr wohl gefühlt: es ist gemütlich und liebevoll eingerichtet und es hat alles was es braucht, auf der Terrasse mit Weitblick auf die Hügel und das Meer lässt es sich wunderbar frühstücken oder abends ein Glas Wein geniessen. Es ist ruhig gelegen und ein guter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge. Sophia ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, sie hat uns für die Ankunft u.a. Früchte, Wein, Brot, kefalonischen Honig und Oliven bereitgestellt und uns mit vielen guten Tips versorgt. Das Cottage ist super eingerichtet (zb Waschmaschine inkl. Anleitung, Wäscheständer, gut ausgestattete Küche, Regenschirme, Strandschirme, ...), Sophia denkt wirklich an Alles :) Herzlichen Dank Sophia, wir haben diese Woche auf Kefalonia sehr genossen!

Perfekt eingerichtetes Häuschen in idyllischer Lage

Wir können das Cottage nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen! Der Empfang von Sophia war sehr sehr herzlich mit vollgefülltem Kühlschrank für ein perfektes Ankommen. Alles war liebevoll hergerichtet und es fehlte im Häuschen an nichts.. sogar Fenistil und Tesafilm haben wir gefunden :-) Der Blick von der Terasse ist herrlich auf die Bucht und es war auch nicht zu warm, da wir unter einem alten Olivenbaum saßen. Die Umgebung ist sehr schön und noch nicht überlaufen. 2 gute Tavernen sind fußläufig zu erreichen. Wir haben uns wunderbar erholt und kommen ganz bestimmt wieder. Herzlichen Dank an Sophia ;-)

Sehr schönes Häuschen mit Panoramablick

Sehr liebevoll eingerichtetes Häuschen in schöner Lage. Ruhig, wenig Nachbarn in der Nähe, nur etwas Hundegebell in der Ferne... Sehr schöner Meerblick, herrliche Morgensonne auf der sehr schönen Terrasse, Abends Schatten (im Sommer genau richtig, in der Nachsaison Geschmackssache...), günstige Lage für Ausflüge in den Norden der Insel. Sehr freundlicher Empfang durch sehr hilfsbereite Besitzerin Sophia, die im gleichen Ort wohnt. Nicht ganz günstig aber sein Geld wert!

Tolle Unterkunft in zentraler Lage

Das Cottage liegt zentral und war somit perfekt, die Insel in jeder Richtung zu erkunden. Die Besitzerin Sophia war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Bei Ankunft war bereits der Kühlschrank mit Wasser, Wein und Saft gefüllt und auch Obst, Honig, Butter und Marmelade wurde bereitgestellt. Ein größerer Supermarkt und viele Restaurants sind im nahen Agia Efimia zu finden (kleinerer Markt nur 50m vom Cottage entfernt)

Very nice stay in October

Very nice cottage. Marvellous view from the terrace over the valley down to the bay at Agia Efimia. In October we were able to see the moon as well the sun rise from the sea. Everything we needed was there. Good and friendly service by Sophia.

Lovely

The cottage and it's location are lovely: up in a small village with a view of Agia Effimia (only a short drive away). Sophia, the host, was very wellcoming and has provided the cottage with everything and more one could need during their stay. From private parking, a washing machine, ironing board to a fully equipped kitchen and much more. Everything was very clean and wellcoming. We felt at home right away. To sum it up in one word: perfect.

Auntie's cottage was very nice in a good position with lovely views. It was very clean and well equipped. It would have been a bit squashed with 4 adults but was perfect for the two of us. Sophia was very helpful.

Fantastic location for a relaxing holiday

I chose this property for our family holiday based on the fantastic reviews on the website and it was exactly as described. Beautifully clean and well equipped, a lovely shady terrace to enjoy outdoor meals and an ideal location for exploring the rest of the island. Sophia was a kind and attentive host and provided plenty of helpful information about places to visit and the best tavernas! We had a lovely time and would love to come back again one day.

Beautiful view!

Sophia was an excellent host and the cottage was wonderful! We loved the location and ease on getting to other areas of the island. It was so quiet and peaceful and loved the authentic feel of the home. There is plenty of space and well stocked. Sophia provides an awesome list of things to do and place to eat and see. Our family had a wonderful time. We will be back! Highly recommend!

Glorious kefalonia

Auntie’s Cottage, named for a real Aunt, is one of the best kept and prepared houses I have stayed at in many years of holiday renting. From a magnificent view from the beautiful terrace, to the needles and thread in the drawer of a cabinet, all you need to prepare real meals, and a plentiful supply of fresh linen and towels, it is like being at home—yet of course you aren’t, you are in this lovely village, cradled by hills and with a view of the Ionian sea. Sophia was more than helpful: she made us feel at home, and sent delightful messages as well as leaving us everything necessary to make a good breakfast following our (late evening) arrival. We thoroughlybrecommend the cottage and Sophia.

Beautiful spot within a heavenly location

Our stay at Auntie's Cottage has been absolutely pleasant and we would go back there without hesitation. Sophia’s cosy and spotlessly clean apartment provided everything we needed in order to enjoy our ten day stay on the island, be it the well-equipped kitchen, the stunning view at the Mediterranean or the hand-picked and charming interior that made us feel at home whenever we came back after a long and tiring day of exploring the island. Due to its central location it turned out be an ideal starting point for trips to all corners of Kefalonia. Not only is the cottage a hidden treasure, but also our host Sophia is a truly kind and hospitable person. Upon arrival she bid us a warm welcome with a basket filled with local specialities and gave us lots of helpful tips. On the occasion of Easter she even brought some traditional homemade cookies for us to try and shared some insights on how Easter is celebrated in line with Greek Orthodox Church customs. You can tell that she is passionate both about Kefalonia and ensuring that her guests have a formidable stay at her aunt’s former house. Thanks again for everything, Sophia, and see you soon!
