Talbot - Birchview - Two Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 4

There are some terms that get overused and to be honest we think that "hidden gem" might be one of those terms when it comes to real estate and cottage rentals - but then again, sometimes it's exactly the right phrase to use. The Talbot River lazily flows between Canal Lake at Bolsover Ontario, just northeast of Beaverton, and Lake Simcoe. Quite frankly we were surprised to find such a delightful pair of cottages this close to the GTA. At just a little over an hour from the Don Valley/401 interchange, Talbot-by-the-Lake cottages are a perfect choice for an extended family that wants a pair of cottages side by side - perfect for sharing a cottage vacation but allowing each to have some space of their own.

Talbot-by-the-lake - Birchview has a kitchen, dining area, living room and 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4. It has a fire pit, smart TV, gas fireplace, Wifi, and is air-conditioned.

While there will be occasional boats passing by, the island in that dominates the view also shields you from the traffic of the Trent-Severn Waterway - which by the way, is also accessible to you should you wish to bring a boat. Swimming from the docks is quite good - the gentle current of the river prevents any excessive weed build up. You may occasionally see some weed carried into the bay from nearby Canal Lake, but these are easily dealt with.

The local store just down the road has what you need for groceries and the basics. Also just on the other side of that island is the Western Trent Golf Club - a nice little 9-hole track for you to enjoy during your stay. Beaverton, Fenelon Falls and Orillia are all within a half hour's drive, each offering something unique to cottage country visitors.

While Birchview is wonderful for a small family, you may want to also rent the adjacent cottage, allowing for a larger family gathering with separate spaces.

Things you need to know:

One well-behaved dog up to 75 lbs permitted, but no cats please.
Please note that, according to the municipality's bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free.
This cottage is in The City of Kawartha Lakes. The Municipal STR Licence restricts the cottage to maximum 4 people at any given time during your stay. The Municipality requires rental guests sign a Rental Guest Code of Conduct. It will be sent to you upon booking for electronic signature.
Linens and indoor towels are provided for all rentals; please bring your own outdoor towels
Rentals include a cleaning service; however, the departure checklist must be completed
The cottage's waterfront has a north easterly exposure

Waterfront

The cottage is located on a deeper section of the Trent-Severn system just west of where the Talbot River flows into Canal Lake. It has good swimming for adults as well as shallow entry swimming for children, with a soft, silty bottom, and a few rocks. Off the dock the water is approximately 6' deep.

Trivia

The nearby town of Beaverton was first settled in 1822. It was originally called Calder's Mills (after an early miller), then Mill Town and Milton until it was renamed Beaverton when the post office was opened in 1835. (Source - Wikipedia).
