Hearts Home - Three Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 4

  • House Rules (must meet these to book): Sleeps 4 (including all children), Saturday- Saturday only during the summer (last week of June - start of Sept), Lead guest must be 30+ years old. A max of 2 dogs is welcome but must be leashed and not permitted to wander. no parties allowed. Please note that, according to the municipality's bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free. A supplemental information form must be completed. This cottage has a valid STR license with the City of Kawartha Lakes; STR2026-170, which allows for no more than 4 guests to be on the property at any given time during your stay. The Municipality requires rental guests sign a Rental Guest Code of Conduct. It will be sent to you upon booking for electronic signature. Supplentatl information form must be completed. **Please note Kawartha Lakes, implements a month long burn ban every April - campfires are not permitted in April**

    We often spend a lot of time trying to decide what the key feature of a property is that sets it apart from others. Not only does this Kawartha Lakes cottage rental have all the amenities and comforts that will make your stay a memorable one, but it also has the most amazing owners that have truly gone out of their way to ensure their guests have a great stay at Hearts Home.
    Situated on the western shores of Head Lake, between Orillia and Norland this cottage sits on an elevated lot which gives the most amazing lake views. With several sitting areas, a hot tub, hammock, outdoor sand volleyball court, kids swing set and trampoline, there is something for everyone even before heading down to the water.
    Down a flight of steps you come down to the waterfront. The owners have provided a canoe, kayak and paddleboat for you to use as well as a selection of life jackets and safety gear to get you out on the water. The primary access into the water is from the stairs on the dock and the water is approximately 5 ft at the end of the dock. If you are looking to do some fishing, Head Lake has excellent Bass fishing and there is a dock complete with cleats for mooring your own boat or the watercraft provided.
    In the cottage you can see the effort and detail these owners have gone to, to ensure everything is perfect for your stay. With high-quality linens in the bedrooms and plush mattresses you will certainly have comfortable Total Guests.
    The property is all on one level and the bedrooms are grouped together on the south side of the cottage. The bathroom is just off the kitchen. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the appliances you will need during your stay and the breakfast bar will be great for chatting and sharing a drink or two while getting meals together. Behind the breakfast bar is the living room giving an open plan feel to the property. Here you will be able to relax on the leather furniture while taking in a movie or playing games, but the best part of the cottage is the sun room. With large windows looking out over the lake and when you open the windows the warm scented country air breezes in to allow you to enjoy the outdoors while staying in the shade and undercover during the occasional summer storm.

    • Garbage and recycling removal prior to departure is required
    • Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and not permitted to wander

    • *The dock generally goes in mid to end of May, water levels permitting, and dock comes out mid October usually after Thanksgiving.  All watercraft are unavailable for use when the dock is not available.
    • If guests wish to bring their own watercraft when the dock is unavailable, they can use the boat launch at the end of our street.

    Waterfront The waterfront is rocky with the primary access into the water from the dock; the water is approximately 5ft deep off the end of the dock.

    Close-By Attractions
    Indian Point Provincial Park. Located on the north end of Balsam Lake, this park features one of the longest undeveloped shorelines in the Kawartha Lakes region. Consisting of a low, limestone escarpment, this lake shore property is an alvar. (20 mins)
    Balsam Lake Provincial Park. Park offering boating on the Trent-Severn Waterway, a large sandy beach, good fishing for Walleye, Muskellunge, Large and Small Mouth Bass. Canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard rentals are available, and there are easy hiking trails. (20 mins)
    Golfing. The Links at Monks Landing is a "links-style" layout, inspired by the classic golf courses of the British Isles: treeless, rolling terrain, pot bunkers, high fescue rough. Just outside of Norland, Ontario, Monck's Landing is a family-run operation, offering "golf for golfers," that presents a unique golf experience sure to be appreciated by those who enjoy the history and traditions of the game.     Quaker Oaks Fam. Officially, Quaker Oaks Farm, and less formally " the Betty Boop store " or " Tim Who? ", this hippie shop is an eclectic mix of great food, fresh baked goods and cool stuff. For twenty years now, our family has offered folks a welcoming place to stretch, relax, eat and take in a moment on our farm. Be sure to visit the farm animal sanctuary on the property!     Trivia The nearby village of Norland was named in 1862 by Reverend Bayard Taylor after an African village he'd worked in, Nordland. The name was representative of the village's location at the northern limits of civilization in Victoria County. Norland had been known as McLaughlin's Mills for two prior years, after Alexander McLaughlin, who built numerous mills along the Gull River.

On arrival, there was a couple of nice welcome gifts that were much appreciated. The view of the lake was amazing, we spent most of our time relaxing and taking in the view. The cottage was well stocked and well equipped so we had no problems prepping our meals. Altogether, an excellent stay.
