There were many proā€™s with this rental unit: it is walkable to Kona-Kailua Town, has great ocean views, a nice balcony, plenty of beach chairs, easy parking, and the overall condo property including pool, hot tub, and barbeque grills are clean and up-to-date. Biggest con was that the inside of the condo unit, especially the kitchen area, was pretty dirty. For example, there was burned food on the bottom of the oven, mold/gunk in the dishwasher, coffee pot was dirty and flashing ā€œclean,ā€ and can opener was so dirty/rusted we didnā€™t dare use it. We mentioned this to the property managers and they confirmed the unit was due for a deep clean, but they didnā€™t offer to send a cleaner in during our 8 night stay to clean some of the dirtiest areas. And when we asked for a few extra dishwasher pods, trashbags (only a few were left for us), the property manager said they only provide a starter kit but would ask the cleaners to drop the items off ā€œat their discretion.ā€ The items never arrived. The other con is that while we rented the unit through VRBO, a property management company named Casago Kona actually coordinates the rental. I had to reach out to figure out how to make my second payment and communication is a bit slow.

Pros: 1. great location next to the ocean. 2. Lots of beach supplies in the lanai. 3. A large king size bed and a large pull out couch. 4. Newer kitchen. 5. Quiet AC. 6. In unit washer/dryer. 7. A nice swimming pool and outdoor kitchen/grills. 8. Management is responsive. 9. Spectacular sunsets!Cons: 1. Could use some newer and better bedding sets and towels. It might not be for you if you desire a more luxury feel for bed and bath. 2. Very basic supplies (shampoo, conditioner and shower gel) in the bathroom. Need to buy more TP from the store. 3. Need to buy laundry detergent for the washing machine and cooking oil/certain spices if you desire to cook. 4. The property is older and it shows.Overall, we were happy with the place.

The host was not very responsive. I texted to ask them to let me know if the unit would be ready early and they didn't even respond. Also, they texted to ask how everything was and I mentioned a problem with the internet, and they never replied.I would NOT describe this unit as "newly renovated." It is very old and tired, both the unit and the complex. A piece of tile fell off under the cabinet in the bathroom. The washer had brown/black grime in the gasket. The entire place has a moldy smell. The bedding was very subpar and not very comfortable. The complex is also very old. The fascia is decaying. As discussed above, the internet was spotty at best. The view was beautiful as advertised, and we enjoyed the chairs, cooler, etc., but in general the place is very old and tired and I think it's a bit overpriced.

The condo complex is lovely, and located right in Kona town and right at the water's edge. The check in process was a breeze, and the condo was lovely, clean and well appointed, with beatiful views and furnished with a coastal Hawaiian feel. The management was very responsive to questions that arose during the stay. I would love to stay again!

Great location and had everything we needed

We had a great stay in Kona. The apartment had everything we needed and was close to town. We walked to town everyday for food and activities. The pool and hot tub were nice too and parking was easy and convenient. The AC in the living room and bedroom were both lifesavers since it could be pretty hot and humid outside at times, and we used the washing machine and dryer too. Overall had a great vacation here!

First Visit to Kona & the Big Island!

This was our first trip to the Big Island & our Kona Reef condo was the perfect, central location to explore! Walking distance to shops/restaurants in Kailua-Kona area, just a short drive from the Kona airport, ocean front views, lovely grounds, pool area, community bbq area. Large & spacious accommodations, with a comfy king bed, all kitchen amenities AND in-unit laundry! Couldn't ask for more!

Remote & BEAUTIIFUL snorkel spot between the airport & our condo. Took a lil off-roading but SO WORTH the effort!

Convenient, clean, comfortable.

The unit was comfortable with great parking close to unit. There were greeting snacks with were thoughtful. Wish there had been more than 2 dishwasher soaps. Appreciated having Laundry soap and dryer softener so didnā€™t have to buy whole package. Had to buy sugar so would have been nice to have some packets so didnā€™t have to buy a whole bag of sugar for husbandā€™s coffee. All in all was nice. Have stayed in an ocean front unit and a unit on the other side so is our 3rd stay at the Kona Reef.

Great Condo Close To Town

Condo was exactly as advertised. Clean and had all the amenities we needed, including some beach chairs. Balcony was perfect for relaxing and watching the waves. Enjoyed being withing a short walk of town. Would definitely rent this one again.

Nice cozy condo, but needs a deep clean

Iā€™d definitely stay at Kona Reef Resorts, but Iā€™d skip unit E-22 until the place gets a deep clean. The AC and WiFi were great. The view overlooking the pool and ocean is great. The bed is comfortable. However, the linens and towels need to be replaced. The washing machine needs to be bleached and scrubbed. The tile floors had not been cleaned so I bought some swiffer supplies and did that (could not get ahold of the management company, Casago Kona for supplies). There are some beach items such as 1 noodle, some chairs (we left 2 more), beach towels, and snorkel equipment which was nice. It would definitely be 5 stars if not for the unresponsive management company and the cleanliness issue. Hopefully these things can be remedied. Overall a great time on the Big Island!

Great location

Second time staying here. Condo is very clean, fully stocked. Wifi was not good in bedroom which i had noted previously with property manager. AC was not working in bedroom and was advised it would be repaired although no one ever repaired it, otherwise, a great condo.

Kailua-Kona Fun

This is a great property (Kona Reef) and condo. The Condo has all you need for your entire stay. Even had great Beach equipment. Great Ocean views and an awesome pool and plenty of free parking. The best is the convenient access to downtown Kona where you can walk to within 10 minutes.

This is a very nicely updated unit in a very convenient location. The property management staff were responsive and helpful. The kitchen is very well stocked. The ocean front location and pool are very nice.
