"We planned a short getaway to Friday Harbor with our two small children. I booked the room with the garden terrace not quite knowing what to expect. WOW! Although we felt a little awkward with the kids (most people staying there at the time did not have kids), we were very warmly welcomed by the staff. "Lopez Island is about as laid back as you can get and this place fits right in. Management is very laid back. Check in process is the key being left on the desk by the front door. Rather expensive, but when there are few options on Lopez that's what you get. It was the second time I stayed there. The first time we stayed in a separate small house behind the hotel. "I recently stayed at the Roche Harbor Resort. The location is very pretty, with lots of greenery and proximity to the water. Our condo was spacious, but it had a leak. Other than that, it was good."

"The location and the fact they have onsite parking is great and a car isn’t absolutely necessary. It’s an older hotel and that’s okay. However, it would be better if they do some much needed renovations updating the carpet in the hallways and giving the suites an overhaul. And the kitchens that aren’t full fledged kitchens at a minimum need bigger glasses for water and adult beverages. And while it is old and in need of some updates, it is well-maintained overall."

"The Orcas Hotel is for people who like the charm of past century architecture and conditions and don't mind paying an arm and leg for it. I was desperate for accommodations for a couple of nights at the peak of summer, so grabbed the couple of nights available here. The first night I payed $195 for a bed, bath, TV and floor fan. The 2nd night I paid $100. for a bed, dresser, & bath down the hall. Not a good value, but they charge that much since they can. "
