Come hideaway at the the Blue Heron Hideaway with beautiful wide lake views.

The Blue Heron Hideaway provides comfortable family living with gorgeous views of Smith Mountain Lake. Escape with your family and enjoy a relaxing vacation with large living spaces, screened porch, and dock. This house provides calming hues of blues with stunning bamboo flooring, all with an open concept main floor living. Whether you plan to sit on the wraparound balcony with a good book or challenge someone to a ping pong game in the screened porch, you are sure to have a fun time at the Blue Heron Hideaway. You may even have a sighting of our beautiful local resident, the blue heron.

Blue Heron Hideaway is an Upscale 3BR, 3BA Home in a Quiet Wide Water Cove with deep, clean water (1 King, 2 Queens). All Bathrooms are tiled: The Master Bathroom features a jetted soaking tub and separate tiled shower, the main level bath has a tub/shower combination and the lower level bath is well-appointed with a stand-up shower and linen closet. All rooms are beautifully decorated, furnished and appointed with granite, hardwood, solid wood doors and tile throughout. The open concept floor plan combines the kitchen, dining and living areas while enjoying the view through floor-to-ceiling windows of the A-Framed Great Room. The 1600 square foot dock area has both fixed and floating docks with plenty of shade and opened areas. Two kayaks and a paddle board are available for your use. There are infant, child and adult life jackets to use with all water toys.

Nearly everything is provided for you including luxury Boutique Hotel Bedding linens, 100% Turkish bath and hand towels and washcloths. Your beds will be made up for your arrival. Also provided are hand soap, laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, coffee filters, paper towels, trash bags, a wide array of herbs and spices, life jackets and water toys.

This is a non-smoking home. There is no smoking anywhere on the property, dock, house and grounds.

Just bring your Beach Towel and prepare for a truly relaxing vacation!!

Wonderful experience at Smith Mountain Lake

Once again, our stay was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the many amenities, including kayaks, barbecue, master suite and deck. We highly recommend this property.

Wonderful lake house experience

We were looking for many things in a lake house, including an excellent location, proximity to a marina for boat rentals, and a beautiful property. This lake house delivered on all fronts. There were two kayaks available and many beautiful places to sit with family and friends and enjoy the view. The owners were very supportive and clearly care a great deal about this property. Amenities included gas grill, floaties for swimming, multiple refrigerators, ping pong table, Internet access, large washer and dryer, huge king bed in master suite, and flowers in key outdoor spots throughout the property. Wow.

Spectacular home and location

Very impressed with the cleanliness, comfort, and amenities at the Blue Heron Hideaway. Spacious home with amazing lake views from all levels. Plenty of seating areas throughout the property, both inside and outside. The dock also has ample seating area, both covered and for sunbathing. Also has a variety of water toys for guest use, including kayaks, a paddle board, water skis, and floats. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds are comfortable, and the hosts are incredibly generous with their thoughtfulness and small touches to make you feel welcome. Cannot say enough good things about this property and we will definitely be back!

Peaceful, gorgeous property

We loved our stay this summer! The BHH was exactly what we were looking for, and is in our favorite neighborhood in which to rent. The lake is deep and not too busy, the dock has great sun and shade, and the house is lovely and comfortable and truly has everything you could want on vacation! The owners are wonderful hosts who clearly care a great deal about their home and about you having a great stay!

Very intentionally maintained

This is our 6th year and 6th house at SML for our family (kids now age range brown 18-26). Everyone agreed this was our favorite house - very clean but felt like home. Furnishings all cohesive and decorating etc seemed very intentional and well thought out (aka NOT “hodge podged”). Lake house well equipped too with lake “toys” (skis, fishing poles, floating tubes, life vests of ALL sizes, kayaks, paddle board etc). Multiple quaint and peaceful areas to sit and enjoy the outdoors. Peaceful, quiet cove with a glimpse of the mountain near the damn. Lovely potted flowers that attract the hummingbirds beautifully placed throughout the property. Simply a wonderful house for all to enjoy and have fun! Thank you so much for sharing your lake home with us for our 2023 week at SML!!!

Beautiful Property

So many great things about the Blue Heron Hideaway—best area on the lake for deep water, wildlife, and good neighbors. The house has many perks we found extremely useful, including thick bathroom towels, laundry baskets, blankets, great books, and seating on all levels. We played ping pong and jumped off the dock and fished and enjoyed the many, many lovely plants. Courtnee is a great host who was always quick with all communication. Our favorite house on the lake so far!

Everything you need with a warm welcome

We had read other great reviews but were so pleasantly surprised when our family was welcomed to the Blue Heron Hideaway with a basket of goodies and a handwritten note from the hosts. They even considered the ages of our kids, which showed how genuine their welcome was. The house was immaculate, and one of our first comments was how clean and beautiful the entire place was. It also had everything we needed and things we didn’t even know we did…games, kayaks, kids life jackets, kid sized fishing poles, extra toiletries, even backup coffee (which was crucial when we ran out our last morning). The furniture and decor made us feel like we were in a cozy home, not just a rental house. The details were noticed and appreciated! The hosts were the right level of communicative and very generous with check in and check out. I would highly recommend the house and the hosts!

Beautiful quiet cove to enjoy the lake

This was our first trip to Smith Mountain Lake. The property and location were both amazing. As soon as you pull up, you see the lake welcoming you. The house is very well appointed and even better than the photos in the listing. Our whole family loved the stay. Perfect place to keep us parents and our 21-24 year old kids relaxed and entertained. The communication with the owners before and during the trip was quick timely and helpful . It showed that they truly cared that we had a great stay. All the little details, welcome basket and the comfortable beds made us feel at home. We are all looking forward to hopefully going back next year.

Amazing!!

This was our first time visiting SML. It was amazing! The host went above and beyond communicating about the house and the area. The house is beautiful. You can see the water/dock and mountains from the common areas. The decorations fit the lake theme. The seating throughout the house is very comfortable. There are lots of areas to gather together or to get space/time to yourself or separate adults from the kids. I absolutely loved the dock area. There is a dock house to store floats and gear, a lift for the boat, and a floating dock. The covered dock area was my favorite place. It’s shaded with comfy lounge chairs and a great view. This part of the lake is less busy than other areas so the kids enjoyed the paddle board and kayaks without too much boat traffic. The water is amazing…cool and clean and clear. My kids enjoyed it more than they thought and are begging to go back not only to SML but this house. I have always been a beach person and was shocked by how much I loved the lake. We will be back for sure!!

Truly the best rental experience we have ever had. From the big things to the little details, everything was taken care of for us! The house was SO clean. The bedding was so comfortable we bought it for our own house. It truly felt like home to us. Beth was more than helpful in our preparation to come and we even chatted while we were there. You really couldn’t ask for a better place or better people to rent from. You won’t be disappointed if you choose to stay here. We would love to come back!

View overlooking paradise

My family—husband son, daughter in law and her mom spent a week at this gorgeous property on smith mountain lake. There is plenty of room to come together as a group or to take up your own quiet corner. The dock is fantastic. Room to relax, watch the incredible bird life or fish to hearts content. We caught lovely bass from the dock and used the kayaks to fish out on the lake. We saw plenty of Herron, hawks and even a falcon. Wildlife here abounds. The kitchen is well appointed, We have three great cooks so there was plenty of good food. Out host was super in communicating and helping us navigate the region. Everything has directions on how it works. This is a recently refreshed property. Furniture and kitchen items all fairly new. We highly recommend and would gladly return—and hope to do so soon.—Sharon

Peaceful Getaway

This lake house has everything you would ever want at your disposal. Even though we were there in the "off" season, we enjoyed sitting on the dock enjoying the lake, taking in sunsets, watching for wildlife and coming inside to warm up by the fire! Playing table tennis was super fun and it was a great holiday weekend full of good eating and relaxation. The house sits in an idyllic location and the views of this cove on Smith Mountain Lake are amazing. Watching the (almost) full moon rise over the lake at night was the topper!

The Perfect Hideaway

My only fear in reviewing Blue Heron Hideaway is that if I give it all the praise it deserves it won't be available when we want to return! From the moment we entered the house & saw the stunning view of the lake we knew we were in the right spot. The house was immaculate with lovely, tasteful furnishings ,comfortable chairs & beds made with colorful comforters & crisp linens. The bathrooms were stocked with plush towels,TP,& even toiletries. It was as if we had checked into our own private resort. Our hosts thought of every detail even having night lights in all the rooms & a gift basket awaiting us on the kitchen counter when we arrived with goodies & even a book for our grandson.. The dock & water were where we spent our days, enjoying the peace the cove offered & the kayaks,paddleboard & importantly life jackets for every age. Our hosts Beth & Allen responded immediately to any questions we had before arriving & their welcome packet was a wealth of information. Beth even ordered 2 pairs of binoculars & had them sent to the house when I inquired if there were any in the house(we were watching the blue heron from the dock when I realized we had forgotten to pack ours). We feel very fortunate to have found Blue heron Hideaway & hope to return. It was all we had hoped for & more !

Wonderful vacation

Our stay was wonderful. The setup on the dock made it a relaxing and fun place to hang out and enjoy the water, and the kayaks/paddleboard and other equipment meant everything was very convenient. There was plenty of space both at the dock and at the house, and the screened porch was an enjoyable place to relax, play games, and have meals - and to see the eponymous Blue Heron land nearby. We highly recommend the Blue Heron Hideaway.

Wonderful Week at Blue Heron Hideaway

We could not have asked for a more relaxing, peaceful week at SML. Blue Heron Hideaway was the perfect spot on a secluded cove to enjoy the water away from the heavy water traffic. The house was lovingly appointed and had everything we needed. We were so thankful for the kayaks, paddle board and floats. And the covered deck space was perhaps our favorite spot to hang out in the heat of the afternoon. Beth was a wonderful host and even included some essentials in the kitchen and the bathrooms to make it easy on the guests. She also included a thoughtful welcome treat - all these things combined to be a fabulous experience. I hope we can return soon!

Relaxing and beautiful spot on the lake!

My family truly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Heron Hideaway. Courtney’s communication was fabulous from booking through check out. The house is beautiful, clean and located in one of the nicest coves on the lake. The owners have done a great job to ensure you will have a relaxing and comfortable vacation. The high end linens, towels, extra “just in case” toiletries, welcome basket filled with yummy goodies & thoughtful note to the water toys, kayaks and paddle board help you feel right at home with everything you could need. We look forward to returning in the future!!

Great Lake Vacation

This was our first time visiting Smith Mountain Lake. The house, dock, and all the provided amenities made this a great, relaxing vacation. Spent the mornings on the lake in kayaks or a boat, mid-days at the dock, and evenings doing a variety of things around the lake. We would highly recommend for a laid back, rejuvenating vacation.

Great Getaway!

Our stay was a great experience. Plenty of personal touches that made you feel welcome and at home. This home had great amenities to include a free toothbrush if you forgot yours all the way up to a stand up paddle board. The personalized welcome basket and handwritten note was a great touch. Our family had fun kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, fishing (plenty of blue Gill to keep the kids busy) and swimming from the dock. Very relaxing. Highly recommend this home. Only one negative, which can’t be controlled, the steps to the dock. Overall, we had a great and relaxing stay and appreciate all the little things the owners did to make our stay great.

The first - but not to be the last - satisfied and grateful guests!

We are a family of three - a couple and a 20-year old son - based in DC. We were the first, but will surely not be the last guests to spend a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable week at the Blue Heron Hideaway. Owners Allen and Beth have taken great care to ensure that, from arrival to departure, guests feel welcomed, are comfortable, and fully equipped to spend a delightful week or more at the Hideaway. The lovely note and welcome basket were an indication of the owners' thoughtful and careful preparations. For those of you who enjoying cooking, as we do, the kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need. For those who wish to enjoy the lake though without the din of jet skis and speedboats, the Hideaway is perfect -- tucked into a quiet cove, comfortable chairs to lounge on dockside, kayaks / paddle board and other equipment to use, and easy / safe access for bathers young and old. Thee screen-in deck with table / chairs, overhead fans, and ping pong table (!) is a great place to snack and pass the time, out of the sun or inclement weather, and away from mosquitoes if there are any. The ability to dine indoors or outside -- we did both -- were nice options. With bedrooms, bathrooms and lounging areas on both levels, there is ample space so that guests can find their own nook and two couples or families could each retreat to their own quarters. We highly recommend Blue Heron Hideaway for your next getaway!
