Rustic jaunt in Maine
What the house lacks in amenities is made up for by the location. This rustic property sits on the shore, blessed by the most beautiful scenery and sunsets. The house has everything you need, just very basic.

Great Location - Very Rustic
The location was ideal for us on the water. We enjoyed our daily strolls along the shore. We saw seals, porpoises, eagles, loons and ospreys. It was fun watching the lobstermen tend their traps right out back. The only drawback was the very rustic nature of the building.

It truly is a family camp, as listed. The photos of each room are also very recent! If you love the history and cozy accomodations this is a great place for larger families. The waterfront is second to none, with the wildlife as you mentioned and amazing sunsets. Thank you for your stay, we appreciate you! Simply Rentals USA

There were several things we did not like: 1) there was food left in the refrigerator like open milk, open ice cream, condiments, etc. 2) there were many items left in the shower, shampoos, conditioners, etc. 3) Lots of food items left in the pantry, 4) the pots and frying pans were in bad condition, I had to go buy a 12" frying pan so I could cook eggs and pancakes. 5) the upstairs got very hot when it was in the mid-80's outside, two of the larger windows in the two small bedrooms were missing screens, we opened them anyway the first night but moths and flies came in, I cannot imagine staying there during the summer. The view and location were awesome!

I am so sorry you did not like some things about the property! We take your review seriously and appreciate your time. Many people love that we have shampoo, etc in the showers for them, and condiments, oil, spices, flour etc in the pantry. There are so many pots, pans and accessories there, we can go through them but there are many to cook for larger parties. I am so glad you loved the location and view of this family camp on the water. It is an older home, dearly loved by generations of family. Maybe if you return you would enjoy one of our newer homes. We do hope you made memories, and loved the fire pit, seals swimming up, and great sunsets. Simply Rentals USA

Great views in rustic home
Great views from this private location - secluded but readily accessible to popular Acadia and Bar Harbor locations without all the crowds. Easy access to restaurants, groceries etc. Property more rustic/cabin like vs. modern house. Could use a refresh, but gave us wonderful opportunities to explore other Downeast ME sites.

Classic family cottage
Classic family cottage. Could use a little TLC, but perfectly located, with a wonderful view. Enough room for all 6 of us. Well equipped kitchen, great fire pit. Mounting a basic shower on the upstairs bathroom tub would ease pressure on the downstairs shower. We’d certainly consider coming back next year.

Fantastic Location
The cottage couldn't be in a more beautiful location, we watched seals and otters every morning from the shore while drinking coffee. The cottage is dated but that only added to the charm. We loved our stay.

Beautiful property, great location
With a large group of friends, we spent a week at this property and its guest house during the first week of July. Easily accessible, about 40 minutes from Mount Desert Island, and 20 minutes to a large grocery. We loved the views from the back porch and were able to set off in kayaks from the back (Bean Island is the place to be). The entire northern side of Acadia and Bar Harbor are visible right from the porch. If you're like us and love to explore nature through hiking and boating, would like to stay somewhere beautiful but without the Bar Harbor crowds, this is what you're looking for.

A very special place
The Denny-Brown cottage is a perfect space for folks wanting a genuine, unfussy coastal cottage experience. The cottage interior reflects the eclectic and interesting tastes of generations of this family. The physical site cannot be matched - the sea sparkles just beyond a small grass yard. The sun sets on the same view. I am so appreciative of the generosity of this family in sharing this unique property with others!

Iconic Stay on the Bay
We rented the cottage and guest house for a full seven nights and we will definitely be doing it again. The location is on point (literally). Just a few minutes from the convenience of a big town (Ellsworth), an easy drive to Acadia, and all the isolation and quiet we (a family of mostly introverts) could ask for. The guest house exceeded our expectations - we had friends stay in it and we were all pleasantly surprised by the accommodations (including an ocean view from the first floor.) The cottage is the quintessential Maine summer home on the coast and everything we could hope for. The pictures in the listing do NOT do it justice. it’s better. The host was helpful, resourceful, and ever patient with the demands of a large family and we’re very grateful! We loved sitting on the deck and in the yard, watching seals occasionally surface, and spying deer along the peninsula.

A magical place
The location and views from this house are incredible! Watching the wildlife in the mornings and evenings, sitting under the stars, and experiencing the coast of Maine from the backyard is a wonderful experience. It’s centrally located for day trips to MDI and the Schoodic Peninsula. The listing is a little confusing, the bedrooms listed are both the main house and guest house (which we did not rent), and it was a little chilly on a few October nights (which added to the Maine cottage charm). It really is a magical place and the home only adds to the experience. We can’t wait to visit again!

Breathtaking view
The property and home were exactly as described in the listing: beautiful! The views are really the selling point. Breathtaking! Ocean and wildlife to see during the day. The stars at night are especially nice for someone from a city. A little chilly, but that is to be expected in a rustic New England house next to the ocean. So bring some warm clothes! There were plenty of blankets available at the house. There is a furnace in the living room that works well at heating that room. . I would recommend that the owner get more living room furniture. An additional large sofa and cozy arm chairs would really help. Overall, it’s very charming. I would definitely stay here again .

Frenchman's Bay Cottage Sept 2022
Great time! So much to do in the area, and it is simply stunning. We experienced a night sky that had the family laughing it was so spectacular: multiple shooting stars, and the Big Dipper was larger than I've ever seen it. The house is old and shows it, but it has a lot of character, and the location is amazing. The stove on the 1st floor keeps the room it is located in warm, but the farther away you get from it, the less effective it is. Bring warm clothes if you stay late in the year not just for the outdoors. Property management was incredibly responsive. House is well-equipped.

What an incredible place to step back in time and just enjoy a week forgetting the worries of the world. We absolutely loved this beautiful unmolested cottage on the ocean. Obviously loved and cared for by a family who is generous enough to let the rest of the world experience it too. We sipped our morning coffee watching lobster boats chug by and hiked Acadia during the day. Spent some time in Bar harbor but our time sitting in those Adirondack chairs looking out onto Frenchman's bay was our favorite. Dined on freshly caught lobsters on the deck our last night with our family. Can't wait to return!

Great view
The property is located right on ocean. It was an amazing experience to Walk out in the morning to sit on stones on ocean shore. The property is old, but that has it's own appeal. My suggestion is to try to improve the heating system and invest in additional bathroom.

Yes, this is a family home as stated, and it is a historic home. The view and experience of the tides, gorgeous sunsets, seals swimming up, and close to amenities make it an unforgettable experience. There are 2 full bathrooms, I think that is plenty for a party of 7, it has worked well for many many guests over the years. This is a summer home, and is only rented in the summer. The investment into a newly painted deck, kitchen cabinets, new bedding, new curtains, landscaping, a thorough cleaning, and much more have been happily done this spring!

A Hidden Gem
Wow. We're pulled up to this property at night and didn't really get to lay eyes on it until morning. We were blown away when we woke up and saw that we were just steps away from the bay! The house itself is well equipped- no last minute runs to the store for anything. Plenty of blankets for cool nights, and a fully stocked kitchen that was ready for use. The back porch gives you perfect sunset views and precious little seals will swim by while you watch! We were absolutely charmed by this property and it had everything we needed. The location of this property is, in my opinion, just right. The area is quiet, but there are things to do within walking distance. It was a charming drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor- we spent a lot of time at both. We really couldn't have been happier with our stay at this precious cottage.

Acadia hiking
This VRBO is in a beautiful location with awesome water and Bar Harbor views. On clear nights we were able to see millions and millions of stars…we could even see the Milky Way. The drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor was a quick 45 mins lovely drive. There is a nice restaurant with delectable food within a 10 mins walk of VRBO, The Crocker House. Make reservations well ahead of arrival. We really enjoyed our stay.

A Perfect Getaway
This property is old and rustic; do not expect hotel amenities. That said, it was absolutely wonderful! We were two couples in our 70s, one with mobility issues, and we stayed for five days. We could have happily sat on the lovely porch and watched the spectacular view of ocean, mainland, lobster boats, birds, seals, and maybe a whale (?) all day, every day. But we went to Bar Harbor (about 30 minutes), visited beautiful Acadia NP, and drove east up the coast to Winter Harbor and Schoodic Point (don't miss it!) The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fully equipped, check-in was easy, there are groceries and good restaurants in nearby Ellsworth, manager Susan was helpful and available as needed--it was a wonderful introduction to Down East Maine. We highly recommend this property!

Great Place to Make Memories
We had a family reunion of sorts here on Labor Day weekend in 2021. My family (me, wife, 4 kids, and dog) and my brother stayed in the main house. My sister, her husband, her daughter, and her daughter's friend stayed in the guest house. Everyone fit comfortably. The views from the main house and shoreline were SPECTACULAR. It was a wonderful weekend in a special place that has that old New England cottage charm. We all have fond memories of the weekend and this place.

Great Cottage with an Even Better View
This is a great cottage that is right on the water. Waking up in the morning to sit on the deck and hear the ocean and watch the lobster boats was an amazing way to start the day. The cottage was clean and the check in and check out instructions were simple and easy. We loved our time in the area and our stay in the cottage only added to it.

A rustic cabin stay
We had a fantastic time right on the water. The views were impeccable. It's really a cabin, so if you are looking for high end, this is not for you. But if you want an old New England campy feel, you've found the perfect spot. We spent hours by the gas fire place reading and watching the ocean. Thank you for the stay!

Real Maine coast
Just the view we wanted! Rocky coast, tides, seals, lobster boats, and STARS! The porch was perfect. To quote another reviewer: "The house is gloriously old--the stairs creak, the floor shakes a bit, the dishwasher makes a little noise. It's a real seaside cottage" If you love charm, you'll be happy here. My only problem was our stay was too short!

Awesome view
A great place to use as home base for some Down East exploration. A decent drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but we prefered the tranquility of the neighborhood and view to the bustling accomodations closer to the Harbor. We loved the deer nibbling on the abundant apple trees. It was a very relaxed stay.

Amazing peaceful relaxing getaway with your own waterfront!!
We loved our stay!! Best part was watching the lobstermen everyday at all different hours of the day checking their lobster traps! We enjoyed climbing the rocky shore in front of the cottage at low and high tides. Many times enjoyed playing games and eating meals together on the porch and swinging in the hammock. It was a bit exhausting driving back and forth to Mt Dessert Island everyday for hikes but loved coming back to our own place on the water. We drove overnight to see sunrise on Cadillac Mt. and Myles was so great about letting us check in early and catch a bit of rest before heading out again for the day. Great place with amazing views and wonderful memories and experiences enjoyed by our young family. Can't wait until we can make a return trip!

Kristen, Thank you for the great review!! Maybe next time you can take advantage of the many trails and hikes near the house, on our side of Acadia Nat. Park!! Vintage Charm
My family and I had a lovely relaxing time here. Nothing beats that view, salty air, and so many stars! We explored other areas with day trips but always enjoyed staying at the cottage the best! This place is vintage charm which we adored. So much family history here and you can feel and see it. Wonderful memories created for our family. Thank you for opening your home to us!

Lovely Oceanside Cottage
We had the best stay at this beautifully situated home. The house is even better than advertised, and we loved the quaint community of Hancock Point. The highlight of the trip was watching the sun set each night - great views!

Exactly what we’d hoped for
We wanted an authentic Maine vacation with easy access to Acadia National Park and that’s exactly what we got. The house is old and charming with amazing views. There are plenty of areas to explore on the pointe, big safe open yard for the kids to run around, space to sit and read, and trails and hills and scenic paths great for running. The water is clear and beautiful and the stars at night are the brightest we’ve ever seen. We took multiple trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Winter Harbor. It was everything we hoped for and we hope to return.

Delightful
Summary: This place is perfect. So, I imagine that this home is what it is like if your grandparents/parents have a seaside home that you go to as a family each year. This is a real-life classic seaside home you are borrowing--it has family pictures, a fully stocked kitchen, games, books, a hammock, a grill with charcoal provided, and of course the two chairs looking out on to Frenchman's Bay, with glorious sunsets. It is just idyllic (the first time I have ever described a VRBO home as such). If you want sleek/new/regular, this isn't it. The house is gloriously old--the stairs creak, the floor shakes a bit, the dishwasher makes a little noise. It's a real seaside cottage, not a made for VRBO investment property. You just feel like the house has always been part of your life. Finally, the home is spotless--cleaner than our own!! Sue is a wonderful host--responsive during your planning, and willing to help you settle-in. The community is lovely, though it did take a little time for us to adjust to the expectation that everyone waves at you, and a return wave is part of the deal. It was just a wonderful experience. Even our millennial kids, are impressed by few things, thought it was great!! Just a wonderful experience!!

Great getaway
This property was perfect for our Maine getaway. Beautiful views Of the harbor and Mt. Desert Island. We enjoyed seeing eagles, seals and lobster boats working. Well kept and comfortable cottage style summer home.

Wonderful late summer vacation spot!
Our two-week stay at the Denny-Brown family cottage on Hancock Point was all we hoped for and more! The cottage is located on a premier lot right on the water where we enjoyed many hours watching lobster boats, the occasional seal, and even a bald eagle sitting atop a tall evergreen overlooking the yard. The cottage is a classic Maine cottage that has been in the Denny-Brown family for many years and reflects many happy moments there in its decor and furnishings. We were close enough to Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Point to visit multiple times for hiking and touring and Hancock Point itself is a great place for walking and relaxing. The cottage had everything we needed and is situated so that you can enjoy a beautiful sunset every evening sitting by the water or on the cozy sunroom. Couldn’t recommend the cottage more highly!

Idyllic Maine Property
Although the autumn air was cool and my husband and I were alone in this waterside home, we couldn't help but see what a fantastic family summer escape this place would be. Nostalgic design and lots of room for relaxing, playing, and enjoying Maine! The screen porch was a definite highlight!

Absolutely perfect vacation
The house is very charming and comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked. We were greeted by the Mr. Denny-Brown who showed us around. The view is spectacular. We cannot wait to return.
