Aloha Marina, I'm so sorry to see this unhappy message from you. Let me explain the way a reservation from VRBO is processed. I think you might misunderstand their system. When you made the reservation in December 2020, we were allowed to charge you the full security deposit and half of the balance. Over $5000.00. We charged $1075. VRBO also allowed us to charge the rest of your balance on May 3rd, 90 days before your arrival. Again, we didn't do that. The 60 days you might be thinking about is your ability to cancel your reservation 60 days prior to your arrival. We continue to have concerns about COVID-19, so we were, and are, much more conservative about collecting payments. Yes, we charged the balance between 60 and 90 days, as is our right via VRBO. We also let you know about the challenges of vacationing in Hanalei, which would have allowed you to cancel within the 60 day window. You did not. You're right, the ice and water in the refrigerator didn't work. Luckily Kauai tap water is excellent, and there were ice cube trays in the freezer. Not ideal. But we are located on a very small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Repairs are hard to accomplish in Hanalei, we do the best we can. That refrigerator has been deemed irreparable. The owner is waiting for a replacement. If I were to try to buy a refrigerator on Kauai today I am limited to Home Depot. At best they might have a much smaller unit, without an ice maker (I know this because I buy dozens of appliances every year). That small refrigerator wouldn't have offered water or ice either. Any high end appliance has to be special ordered. We have to wait anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks for delivery. Except Home Depot won't deliver to Hanalei with the road closure. We won't get a replacement until the road opens again. We have the same problem with the washing machine. Most of our appliance repair people just say no to coming to Hanalei. And please remember, we offered you a nearby location for laundry. BTW-We discovered after you left that a previous guest had a mustard packet in their pocket that came out and clogged the drain line. Given the challenges we continue to face daily, yes-sometimes all we can do is laugh in the face of adversity. It certainly wasn't directed at you. It's only a sad release of frustration. I hope you will consider these explanations and perhaps reevaluate your complaints. We are doing the best we can over here. Stay Safe and Healthy. Jane Abramo
