The Space:
The Gums Cottage by Tiny Away is a charming farm stay in Hallet, South Australian. Just a 30-minute drive from Jamestown, our tiny house is situated in a grassy paddock, surrounded by gum trees with abundant wildlife and farm animals.
Expect exciting activities when you visit famous sites like Sir Hubert Wilkins Homestead, Hallett War Memorial, Martindale Hall, Burra Railway Station Museum, Redruth Gaol and Bridge. You can also find world-class wineries at Clare Valley.
A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and gas-heated shower—making it a perfect choice among relaxing holiday homes.
Guest Access:
Guests can access the tiny home, paddocks and it’s surrounding areas.
- Enhance your stay with our breakfast packs, BBQ meat packs, and locally sourced Hallett honey, all available for an additional cost. Breakfast is available for $40 per night for 2 guests, with all provisions provided.

Getting Around:
By car:
- From Adelaide, it takes 2.5 hours and is a distance of 194 kilometers. The nearest towns are Jamestown, which is a 25-minute drive (37 kilometers), and Burra, also a 25-minute drive (35 kilometers).
- A 2WD vehicle is suitable for the trip.
By public transport:
- You can take the Mid-North Passenger Coach from Adelaide to Hallett. Check their website for times and tickets.
- Hallett is located directly between the towns of Burra and Jamestown, each approximately a 30-minute drive in either direction on the highway.
- No additional public transport options are available.
By flight:
- The nearest airport is Adelaide Airport. From there, you can drive 2.5 hours (194 kilometers) to reach Hallett. Alternatively, take the Mid-North Passenger Coach from Adelaide to Hallett.
Other Things to Note:
- Gas BBQ Grill is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- No smoking allowed inside the tiny home; only in designated areas.
- Make sure to turn off the lights, AC, electronics, close windows and doors when leaving.
- Mobile reception has good signals for Telstra and Optus; and weak signals for other networks.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban.
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present in the surrounding areas
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
