Set within a protected landscape overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, RockRose is a private residence in Melides conceived as a living environment where architecture, nature, and perception come into quiet alignment.

The house was designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Manuel Aires Mateus, whose work is recognised for its clarity, restraint, and profound relationship with light and place. Built in rammed earth and natural materials, RockRose emerges from the land itself, establishing a continuous dialogue between heritage, ecology, and longevity.

RockRose is the creation of a visual artist, writer, and researcher in neuroaesthetics. Conceived as a three-dimensional extension of this practice, the house explores how space, light, material, and landscape shape perception, emotion, and the nervous system. Here, beauty is understood not as decoration, but as a force that can restore, regulate, and reorient the human experience.

Just a short drive from the beach and the iconic fishing village of Melides and set across a 10-hectare estate of cork oak trees and wild vegetation, the property accommodates up to 10 guests in five en-suite bedrooms, with an additional meditation room.
The house unfolds along a single, linear structure, where morning light enters from the east and the evening sun fills the west-facing spaces with warmth and depth.

At its core lies a Roman bath inspired by ancient spa traditions, carved in Lioz limestone — a quiet, elemental space where water, stone, and light come together in a ritual of restoration. A fireplace lounge, curated library, and outdoor terraces invite both gathering and retreat, while the saltwater pool extends the experience into the surrounding landscape.

Daily life at RockRose is supported by a discreet house manager and a curated selection of experiences. Therapeutic massage, herbal and mineral baths, yoga, meditation, sound healing, and infrared light therapy support the body in gentle recalibration. Consultations such as classical astrology or tarot offer a more reflective dimension to the stay.

Breakfast is prepared each morning using fresh, seasonal ingredients and has been developed in collaboration with a gut health specialist. Functional additions such as grass-fed collagen, plant-based or whey protein, and adaptogenic mushrooms — including chaga, reishi, and lion’s mane — may be incorporated.

For dining, private chefs draw from Mediterranean culinary traditions, preparing seasonal menus centred on local fish and seafood, often cooked in the warmth of the wood-burning oven.
