Whether you're visiting for Gettysburg's extraordinary history, a couple's getaway, a college event, or a relaxing vacation, Stratton House (South Side) offers a welcoming place to make yourself at home.

Guests enjoy exclusive, private access to the South Side of the historic house. Your accommodations include:

Living Space: A comfortable living room and fully equipped kitchen.

Bedroom & Bath: One cozy bedroom featuring a queen bed and a fully accessible bathroom.

Traveling with Little Ones: This space is best suited for a maximum of two adults. However, if you have an infant or toddler to bring along, that works as well! We can provide a high chair and a pack and play for you (please let us know in advance so we can have them moved into the unit before your arrival).

Pet Policy: We consider one small dog on a case-by-case basis. Please note: Do not book until you have received prior approval to bring your dog. There is a $100 pet fee.

Outdoor Space: A privacy-fenced yard just for you and your family to enjoy.

A Piece of Living Gettysburg History

Step into a home deeply rooted in the historic fabric of Gettysburg. The current structure was built at the turn of the century in 1903 by Dr. John William Crapster O’Neal, following the pivotal years of the Civil War. Dr. O'Neal was a prominent local physician who arrived in Gettysburg just before the fateful battle in 1863. Beyond his medical practice, he became a vital figure in local history; during and after the battle, he meticulously recorded the names and burial locations of hundreds of fallen soldiers, ensuring their identities weren't lost to time.

Adding to the property's incredible timeline, the house rests upon a solid foundation that predates the Civil War, meaning you are walking over history that bore witness to the town's most dramatic era. Years later, the home passed to William H. Tipton, one of Gettysburg's most celebrated historical figures. Tipton began his career as a young photography apprentice right after the battle and grew to become the town's preeminent lensman. He transformed this very property into his personal residence and portrait studio, capturing thousands of iconic images of the Gettysburg Battlefield and its residents that are still studied and treasured today.

This unit at Stratton House is entirely private for you and your group throughout your stay. Stratton House is a large, historic building that also includes a separate 4-bedroom rental on the North Side (with its own entrance and fenced yard) and a third, completely separate unit upstairs where the owners reside.

Each residence is fully independent, allowing you to enjoy your own space, comfort, and privacy. We believe great hospitality means being available when needed while giving our guests the freedom to relax. House Rules & Important Details
To ensure a wonderful experience for our guests and neighbors, please review these guidelines before booking:

Age Requirement: The primary booking guest must be at least 30 years old and must remain on-site for the duration of the reservation.

Occupancy & Parking: This unit accommodates a maximum of two adults (plus an infant or toddler if arranged). We provide private off-street parking for one car; we cannot accommodate more than one car under any circumstances.

No Parties or Events: Absolutely no parties or gatherings for outside individuals not included on your reservation. Our borough rental license strictly governs occupancy requirements, and we cannot make exceptions that would jeopardize our license or our neighbors' peace and quiet.

Smoke-Free Property: Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the residence at all times.

Pet Guidelines: Do not book until you have received prior approval to bring your dog. If you are pre-approved to bring your dog and have paid the $100 pet fee, the following rules apply:

The dog must not bark excessively.

The dog must be safely contained while you are away or travel with you.

You must leave a reliable phone number with the host in case we need to get in touch with you about a problem with the dog.

You must pick up all pet waste promptly.

You must be a responsible pet owner and ensure your dog is not destructive to the property.
