In the upland of the Chianti vineyards and forests on an ancient Roman road, the 13th century Montefienali resort sits on a ridge that tumbles down the valley attracting warm sun by day and a cool breeze by night. Restored into holiday cottages/apartments, each individual home has its own outside dining area, where passing deer and porcupine are often seen. A hiker's heaven, Montefienali has 10 km of its own marked trials on its doorstep through woods and the vineyards of Fietri, here you can stop for a well earned wine tasting. At the resorts highest point there is the furnished swimming pool garden and a shallow pool on the lower level with views stretching to the landscape over the Montefienali rooftops. The Chianti towns of Castelnuovo Beredenga and Gaiole, filled with typical artisanal delights, are both at 15km away through spectacular winding roads. Closer you might try the family fish restaurant at Nusenna, 6km away, or the two restaurants at Castganoli, 10km away.
