Location is key with this property. We are located about 23 miles from the center of the Golden Heart of Alaska, also known as Fairbanks and 35 miles from Chena Hot Springs. If you want to see the Aurora Borealis, the back yard has a great clearing and youā€™re far enough away from the city lights that the opportunity is there. Close in proximity to rivers for fishing or kayaking, and great hiking trails, and not to mention, wildlife can be seen right from the back door. We are within walking distance of a local store with access to basic food, gas, and a post office in true Alaskan fashion. A pamphlet provided in the home during your stay identifies local restaurants and activities for all seasons. Whether itā€™s dog mushing or keeping warm in the hot springs in the winter or hiking in the summer, this home gives to the opportunity to experience it all!

Red Bear Den has a log cabin feel with cozy modern amenities. Decorated with pieces of local Alaskan artwork and furniture, this beautiful home will give you a taste of Alaska that youā€™re looking for, with the benefit of indoor plumbing. At 1300 square feet, this home will sleep 6 adults with 3 bedrooms and a sleeper sofa. There are two bathrooms and a laundry room with access to a washer and dryer during your stay. The kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, double stove, dishwasher, Keurig, and basic cooking essentials that are provided. If youā€™re looking for a family friendly home, this is it! A Pack and play, high chair, and a stroller are available. Satellite Cable, DVD player, and High Speed Wireless Internet are also available for use and entertainment.

Tips Before You Arrive:

Average temperatures in the summer usually range from +60ā°F to 80ā°F (16ā°C to 26ā°C). Average temperature in the winter usually ranges from +20ā°F to -20ā°F (-6ā°C to -29ā°C) depending on when you visit but has been known to dip to -40Ā°F (-40Ā°C). It may be beneficial to rent a vehicle. Itā€™s necessary to plug in your vehicle at +20Ā°F (-6ā°C) and below.

Weather was not with us

The weather turned for the worse a few weeks prior to our stay. We hoped for the best and got snow several days but the Aurora showed us what we needed the last night there. So incredible we caught it. Great accommodations and the Pizza Bus did not disappoint. Pleasant Valley store had a nice mix of things you need as well. Thanks for the great stay Alaska!

Itā€™s one of my favorite places to go. We have stayed at this property several times Russell and Monique are really good people and wonderful host house feels like home very relaxing. Thereā€™s just a piece in a tranquility you get staying at this property. to me, itā€™s the perfect place to stay far enough away from town to get the quiet yet close enough to do all of the fun things you would wanna do. Thereā€™s a lot of trails to hike around there. Itā€™s perfect.

Perfect Alaska Experience

Greatest place ever

The house is beautiful and clean. Has everything you need. The location is perfect for peace and nature, and auroras 100%. Thereā€™s a grocery store very near. We loved it and 100% recommend it.

Great location for viewing the Aurora

Lovely rustic property in an area with no light pollution. We are from Florida and it was very cold when we were there, but even with the thermostat at the upper end of the instructed settings, we found the house to be drafty. There were instructions not to use the wood stove. We suspect that if the wood stove had been available we would have been toasty warm. Hosts were very responsive and gave us great information to alert us to the Aurora websites and how to interpret them. They were also responsive to issues with the microwave and television set. Really appreciated the large washer and dryer and the dishwasher. The driveway was plowed for us and there is a plug available for your car in the outdoor parking spot. The back porch was not shoveled for us and we really needed that and some space in the backyard to get good pictures of the Aurora. We called the hosts to ask about snow shovels and they do have two shovels - one near the garbage bins and one in the green tent - so we were able to shovel out an area to use. Lots of hot water. Full size refrigerator. Plenty of coffee pods for the Keurig and quite a few supplies provided. Would have liked a soup ladle and an electric can opener - manual can be a little tough for old hands., but overall adequate dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, and kitchenalia. Well located for visiting North Pole and Cheena Hot Springs.

Wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the Red Bear Den. The home is cozy and clean. Lots of little extras in the kitchen and showers. Host were great and responded quickly. Saw lights dance across the sky in the yard for one of our nights.

Very nice home

Very nice home. Our reason for visiting Fairbanks was to see the northern lights and WOW did we everā€¦right out our front door! Two nights of our stay we saw the lights and they were beautifulā€¦no need to leave home. The host was very accommodating and helpful with information about northern lights viewing and very excited for us when I told her we saw them from the house.

What a great property! Beautiful setting with complete and perfect privacy set in the hills outside of Fairbanks. The house had old charm outside but was fully modern inside. All the conveniences you want and need with well stocked supplies and food. Seriously you do not have to bring anything with you. We stopped at a store when first going there and did not need to at all. Only thing that would have been nice is to have the use of a barbeque.Thank to Monique who was a great and accommodating host and showed us great consideration and flexibility. PS: We were able to see the Northern Lights right out back of the house.

Peaceful cabin

Off the beaten path and so peaceful. Big backyard perfect for seeing the northern lights which was a huge bucket item!!! Very spacious. Cute bear theme throughout the cabin. Great communication and easy to check in/out.

Lovely cabin in the beautiful woods

We had a relaxing yet busy time. The home is exactly as advertised. The hosts are fantastic communicators. We had a minor issue with internet that was addressed promptly. (And the fault of ATT, not the hosts.) The kitchen is well equipped. Thanks for the great spot!

This place was perfect for us. We did snow machines and dog sledding in North Pole, Aurora viewing at Charlie's dome at the Chena Hot springs. We also went to the Castner Ice cave. We would eat supper in Fairbanks so the cabin was centrally located for all our activities.

Perfect!!!

Everything with the property from check in to check out was perfect! Ideal place for our family to experience an Alaskan winter. Northern lights, ice fishing, hot springs, mushing, and reindeer were all close by. Hosts were excellent and communication with them was always answered immediately. Thank you so much!!!
