We had no tv the whole time, NO mention of the shower being unfiltered well water. It smelled like rotten eggs every time we had to shower which sucked because we are already smelled fishy from fishing. Let alone I’m a tiny person and the shower was so small my face was like 3 inches from the shower wall trying to shower. The lights at the bottom wouldn’t even work because there was no way to plug them in. So we had to go use our own money to get an extension cord. The pictures are kinda deceiving because they are old photos. All the lights on the porch didn’t work because 99% of them were missing. The lights on the roof part to see when it was dark only 1 of the 4 worked. NO lights by the stairs worked. Just kinda disappointed. The shower door didn’t go all the way down so water got everywhere. Definitely won’t book again.

Weekend Getaway

We stayed here for a couple nights and brought our kids, 2 and 4. The location right on the river was excellent and overall the island was very quiet and secluded. The kids loved playing by the water, watching the towboats, and looking at the wildlife along the river. The house was clean and comfortable, kitchen was well stocked. As other reviews mention, the shower is slightly leaky but this was not a big deal for us. We enjoyed staying here and would come back again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little house on Campbell Island. Everything in the previous comments was true so I went in knowing and none of it bothered us because we were looking for a peaceful stay near the river and that's exactly what we got! Communication with host was great! Thank you!! We will be keeping this on our radar for the future.

Nice small cabin. Wish furnace was working. COLD!

Cabin was nice. Nothing to brag about but we were not expecting anything fancy. The reason for 4 stars is that the furnace was not working and it got cold. I’d noticed in a previous review that they kept the house cold- 65- and the host would not turn it up for a previous guest. However the furnace would not stay on for longer the 15 minutes. The house was freezing and doesn’t have additional blankets to keep guest warm. Only the two comforters on the beds. When I messaged the host about the furnace issues his only response was “oh, I’ll take a look”. We left right away to get warm. Disappointed but furnaces can be fixed and I’d stay again if the place has heat. Suggestion for the host. Add more blankets and maybe even a heated blanket. I and I assume others get cold at 65 degrees.

Loved staying on the River

The location was perfect, the breeze and scenery was amazing. Quiet and private. Inside was okay, could use a remodel on the bathroom. We would definitely come here again.

Good but also funny

So, check in was normal. Communication is a hit or miss. The place is like the pics but it’s not like the pics if you catch my drift. Gotta be able to find the humor in some things. Like, the floor board between the bathroom and hallway looked like it was broke in a few places. Instead of fixing it, they just put some scotch tape over the breaks,lol. Perfect! Clean but definitely older home, definitely lived in and used but still good. No frills but gets the job done if you just want a low key time , great view of Mississippi River right in back. Remember, it’s like the pics but it’s not like the pics… thumbs up!! Oh yeah, the bed in the back room is very comfy, fell asleep right away. Bring eye masks if you like to sleep in a dark room as there are no black out curtains, just those sheer cloth curtains. Big yard .

Nice place , there are 16 stairs to get in .. my sweetie just had hip replaced ,, but we knew there were some stairs. The thermastat AUOTMATICALY ,goes to 64 at night ,,, we about froze,,, did not appreciate that

Campbell Island House

House was clean for the most part, bathroom could have used a better cleaning. Bathroom is tiny so if you need to help someone in the bathroom it will be a squeeze. House needs fixing up, broken blinds, refrigerator handle taped on. Description, was a bit misleading, there were two beds, but one was in the livingroom area separated by a curtain. The other bedroom didn't have a door, and the closet wall between the other sleeping area was lattice, so absolutely no privacy. The house is up a flight of 15 steep, small stairs, so if stairs are an issue that would be a challenge. Was able to park really close. There is a nice deck overlooking the river and that was by far the best part for me. Watched all kinds of birds flying by and even had a barge go by. There is a bit of sand and space by the water so kids could splash or throw in a fishing line. Did not see any seating available by the water. Only a couch for seating in living room, 3 wooden stools at the kitchen counter so its either eveyone on the couch (maybe could seat 4 if smaller or kids) or the floor. Nice touch was bottles of water in the fridge and ice made in the freezer. Beds were ok comfort wise, the pillows ehh, would recommend bringing your own. Would I stay again? Yes. Was it great, no. Was it fine for the one night we stayed, sure. Note: the house rules, while reasonable were pretty severe. Not the place if you want to have a few friends over, listen to music and have a drink. Information book was very nice

Nice view. Cool to watch the traffic on the river while waking up. Close to the areas we were there to visit. Just wish there was better communication prior to our stay. That said, communication was good while we were there.

Don’t recommend

The host doesn’t answer your messages on the app you have to call or text their number directly to get them to respond. Messaged them on here a week before coming out and they never responded until we called them to see how to get in. There isn’t really hot water if you take a shower in 5 minutes or less than you’re good. Other than that after about 5 minutes you’ll get blasted with ice cold water. Definitely don’t stay here in the winter we had a couple bad storms while staying here and there was wind coming in through the door and there was water coming in and left a decent amount of water in the living room. Being on the river was nice but the deck of the house was a little dry rotted and didn’t look like the pictures. The neighborhood isn’t the greatest, some of the houses windows are boarded up and not very nice. Overall, the host doesn’t respond and doesn’t care to make sure that everything is ready before you check in, and the house is not like the pictures. Don’t spend your money and go somewhere else.

We didnt know the place had no privacy doors--only curtains-- but it was nice . Our 3rd person had to leave after only one night. It would have been nice to have charges reflect this...but there was no place on reservation form to indicate this...

Owner cancelled my reservation 24 hours before check in and kept my money because of a house rule I never saw. Customer service was useless.

Nice views of the river

The air conditioner in this property apparently went out the day we were to come and stay. They owner tried to compensate by putting in 2 portable units. I know those are not cheap so I appreciate that. However, they were not near enough to keep the house cool. In the late afternoon and evening the indoor temps were in the low to mid eighties. It was pretty much uninhabitable! We did spend time away from the property or on the deck so we didn’t have to swelter. I was very disappointed when I notified the owner of this and there was no offer to refund us anything due to the space not being usable or at best very uncomfortable during a good portion of the day. Again, I realize this isn’t anyone’s fault but feel like that would have been a nice gesture. Besides that the location was very nice right on the river and the deck, dock and little beach area were nice. The space was adequate for our family of 4 ( two children) but would be tight for 4 adults as the house is small. There is only indoor seating for eating purposes for 2, stools at the bar. It wasn’t an issue as we ate in the deck. Not a terrible experience but not our best VRBO experience by far.
