A family of 4, we spent 4 nights at this property in Certaldo Alto, a small, historically proud village above the otherwise unexceptional small farming town of Certaldo. The host, Veronica has equipped the flat with everything you might need for a comfortable stay (fans, WiFi, well equipped kitchen, etc) but with at least 6 excellent and reasonably priced restaurants in the village and all within a few hundred meters, we had a hard time cooking for ourselves!
This is a pedestrian only town, although Veronica will help you bring your car inside the walls when you arrive to drop off your gear. Our children were very happy there and ranked it as 'one of the best' of the places we stayed at while in Italy. We made one trip to town to go to the public pool the first afternoon, just to cool down and get a feel for the other Certaldo. This is also an excellent base to explore the area; we chose San Gimignano and Lucca (not quite local), and caught Siena on the way out when we headed further south.
As luck would have it, we left the morning of the day the big annual street festival Mercantia started. We heard enough rave reviews from people both in and out of Certaldo that we made a separate trip back one evening just to check it out. Definitely, if you are in Tuscany in July, check out Mercantia.
Overall, a great experience in Certaldo Alto and staying in Veronica's flat.
