Let's start with what will bring me back to this house: the 180 degree views from the living area are astounding -- beach and ocean and Morro Rock. The location is very convenient for exploring the California central coast, and the beach town of Cayucos is charming. An excellent old-school Mexican restaurant called Martin's was a big hit. The house has good beds, good towels, good dishes and glassware, adequate cookware (exceptions noted below), and clean windows for the views. There are some obvious shortcomings, beginning with VRBO's listing. It doesn't say that there are 34 steps from the street to the living area, or just 16 to the primary bedroom. It's an additional 20 steps to the viewing deck at the back -- it's worth the climb. Bringing in luggage or groceries is an unpleasant chore. There is an elevator, noted in the listing, but no warning that it's not useable (maybe there's special approval needed, but no way to know about that before you arrive). Missing in the living room are tables -- there's no place to rest a glass or snack, not even a tray. Missing are a fifth and sixth chair for the dining area, though the listing is for six people. In the kitchen, there's no mixing bowl, no kettle for boiling water (the listing refers to the coffee maker as a "coffee/tea maker," which produces coffee-tinged hot water not suitable for tea), and no toaster. But I'll return for the view--it's truly splendid-- and for the overall comfort of this home.
