Welcome to your Carmel-by-the-Sea home away from home. Can you already feel a cool ocean breeze on your skin? Smell the salty air with hints of Carmel Pine trees? Hear the breaking waves in the distance? Relaxation sets in even before you open the gate to The Salty Dog! Inside, a lush, private garden courtyard with a welcoming fire pit awaits you.

This home features four comfortable bedrooms and two full bathrooms, comfortably accommodating up to seven people. The expansive front of the house features a luxury (and private) outdoor living space with a beautiful stone patio, sofa seating, and a dining area, creating a peaceful, open-air setting. The circular seating around the fire pit allows for conversation, snuggling with a great book, or quiet reflection.
Upon entering our recently renovated, light-filled home, a welcome tote bag with goodies will be waiting for you!

Inside, you’ll find a gas fireplace that opens to both the living and dining areas. The living room has a large art frame smart TV, a new, comfy sofa, an oversized chair, and more. An entire wall of glass looks out onto the front patio and garden. The fully-equipped kitchen has modern appliances, an oven, a gas stove, a microwave, plenty of storage, an espresso maker, a coffee maker, a high-end juicer, an ice maker, and so much more. A dutch door leads to the side yard and back deck, which has a freestanding gas BBQ, commercial outdoor heater, and another private seating area.

The main level also features two guest bedrooms (one double and one queen bed), one bathroom, a laundry area with a washer and dryer, a clothesline, an iron, and an ironing board. A dutch door provides access to the back deck.

To access the primary bedroom and the upper balcony deck, you must be able to climb stairs.

The upstairs boasts a third guest bedroom (queen bed) and a spacious primary bedroom (king bed). Both bedrooms have access to the full bathroom with a tub/shower. Large windows look out onto the treetops and an ocean view! There is a second fireplace and a walk-in closet located in the primary bedroom. Each bedroom has a dutch door leading to the upper deck.

The detached office cottage has a tv, a leather sofa, and room to work on a puzzle or have a game/movie night! The recently remodeled space also serves as a quiet office, separate from the main house. A desk, printer, and some office supplies are provided. A wall of windows and French doors leads to the front garden, stone patio, and fire pit.

The upper deck is a spacious oasis with gorgeous ocean views, stunning sunsets, neighborhood, forest views, and comfortable seating around a fire pit.

We have a driveway and a parking spot in front of the house. We do not have a garage.

The Salty Dog is located on the north end of Carmel-by-the-Sea and adjacent to the Pescadero Canyon. (The property is located on San Carlos Street between Alta and Vista. The VRBO location site is sometimes inaccurate, so it's best to refer to a Carmel map to verify the home's location.) It is an eight-block walk (and a 3-minute drive) to downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea with its famed restaurants and shops, or a ten-block walk (and a 3-minute drive) to the beach along our village’s charming streets. The Forest Hill Park, nestled within the neighborhood forest, is just around the corner from The Salty Dog and offers a playground, public restrooms, a basketball half-court, and public tennis courts.

Please note: The Salty Dog is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, and we expect our guests to be respectful. Absolutely NO smoking or parties are allowed, or loud outdoor music or conversations after 10:00 pm. Only the contracted guest may have one pre-approved dog stay at the house. Other visitors may not bring their pet(s).

Great place to stay

Great place to stay. My family and I have stayed here twice and truly enjoy it. The home is comfortable and we love the location, with the ability to walk to town or to the beach in a few minutes. The outdoor living spaces (in particular the stone patio and upper deck with views of the ocean) are lovely. And the detached unit is great for working without disturbing (or being disturbed by) those in the house. Brandi was a thoughtful, kind, and responsive host as well. Overall, strongly recommend.

Salty Dog

Awesome house in great location!

My wife and I had a wonderful 30+ day stay at the Salty Dog. The house is so charming and comfortable and has so many great touches. Brandi was the prefect house and has thought of, and included everything you could possibly need for a long-term stay. Our check in and out was very easy and she checked in throughout our stay make sure our stay was comfortable and seamless. The beds were also very comfortable which is very important to me. The nights can get cool, so we really enjoyed the outside decks with fire pits (ocean views from the 2nd floor deck. Also, the separate office / TV area was a big hit as it allowed my wife and I to “spread” out!. I would highly recommend this house. We can’t wait to stay there again next year!

Sweet Stay at the Salty Dog

All I can say is WOW! The Salty Dog in Carmel was simply heavenly. We stayed for a month and wish we could have stayed longer. Our group included four adults and an infant. The house was amazing and beautiful, with stunning ocean views from the second floor bedrooms and deck. The beds were comfortable, as was the living room furniture. There were plenty of cozy throws in every room, and we appreciated them as we spent lots of time outside on the patio and the upper deck. We especially enjoyed: the double-sided gas fireplace in the living room and grilling some spectacular fish and seafood from Sea Harvest Fish Market. The separate office/lounge area was much appreciated, as a couple of us had to spend some time working during our trip. Brandi was the perfect host, and was in touch with us throughout our stay to answer questions and see if we needed any supplies. We felt like we were at a home away from home. What could be better? The digital guide book (also available in a binder) had all the info anyone could ever want for an exceptional stay on the Monterey Peninsula. The Salty Dog is a true gem. We can't wait to go back!

Excellent House in Beautiful Carmel

My husband and I along with our papillon had a wonderful stay at the Salty Dog! The house is so very comfortable and the owners have thought of everything you need for a month stay, such as a completely appointed kitchen to cozy blankets for enjoying the very special fire pits. The robes in every bedroom were an additional thoughtful touch. Also, the owners were very responsive with any questions we had. We would stay there again in a heartbeat and highly recommend the Salty Dog for a special house to stay in a very special place!

Everywhere you look inside the Salty Dog reflects the good taste of our hosts. The house is easy to live in and while the space is compact it is perfect. The house is nicer than the photos which are themselves an accurate reflection of the house. The location is quite lovely although there are hills, as there are everywhere in Carmel by the Sea. It is easy to get around and in truth I can only say it is a lovely way to spend a month. The hosts are very responsive and there are touches throughout the house which reflect the hosts welcoming touches for guests. From slippers to coasters it is home run. Amazing rental home in Carmel

The Salty Dog has everything you could ask for in a Carmel By The Sea Rental. The home is full of windows making it bright and cheery in every room. The owners are very responsive and will make sure your stay reaches expectations.

For the month of December my husband and I stayed in this lovely home snuggled into a beautiful Carmel neighborhood with more than a glimpse of the ocean and just a short walk to the charming town of Carmel by the Sea. In our last two weeks we were joined by our four grown children. Plenty of room for all and worked really well for those who were working remote especially the extra detached office space. The home was decorated in a cool California coastal vibe with awesome outdoor spaces. The kitchen was a large enough space to cook our meals and appointed with everything you could want or need from pots and pans to cooking utensils and so much more than any other home we have ever rented. This house felt much more like we were staying at a good friends home than a place we were renting. What did we love the most: the fireplaces and fire pits, the views of the ocean and the sunset from the upstairs deck, the large windows everywhere that let in so much light and the twinkling stars, the cozy beds, the light fixtures and art everywhere, the quiet super-safe neighborhood and friendly neighbors, the daily walks into town and then to the ocean along the scenic drive, the wonderful boutique shopping and so many awesome restaurants, and the very handy mobile AP Brandi created was extremely helpful with answers to any questions you might have about the workings of the house as well as the handiest interactive map I used countless times to find my way back home! Brandi was a delightful and very responsive host and checked in with us just enough to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. Thank you Brandi for sharing your beautiful home! We hope you would have us back to stay .....a magical home in a magical town.

Wonderful property that was better than advertised!

We enjoyed our stay. Location is very convenient to everything, especially downtown Carmel. Also, 3 seperate outdoor patios with gas fire pits. Kitchen is well stocked. Brandi & Mark were very responsive to all of our questions and requests.

Very comfortable

Good location with a very comfortable layout. The property is very well equipped with kitchen items, linens, throws and three TVs. The office area is an extra bonus as family members or young children can watch TV, play games or just visit separate from the main house. Brandi was outstanding as she always received our phone call or returned our call within minutes. The owners are also very thorough with literature covering every process associated with the house and visiting the area.
