If you could please suggest where else we could explain that travelers must bring their own linens, it would be MUCH appreciated!! (I realize that it may be hard to catch in the long property description - however it IS also in the rental agreement, which you signed and returned, just after you booked. And it's also mentioned in the "Last Minute Letter" we send a few days before check-in, with the lockbox code, etc.) Any suggestions you have for how we can make this more clear we'd be happy to incorporate! But we'd love to hear what improvements we can make to have improved your rating to a 5-star. ;) (If related to guests needing to bring their own linens: of course, we have considered supplying them, it would just mean increasing the nightly rate pretty significantly - and we like to keep it as low as possible for our guests! We've found folks would prefer to keep the cost down and bring their own, but totally respect that this doesn't work best for everyone.) We sincerely apologize that you found the home in a less-than-ideal state of cleanliness. FYI: we have since switched cleaning services. We also do state the warning about the low ceilings and the nature of the narrow spiral staircase - my apologies if you missed that info before-hand. And we were not made aware of the next-door construction you experienced, otherwise we would have (of course) warned you about this ahead of time, and would've allowed you to cancel your resevation for a full refund if you so decided. We are very sorry that you did not have an ideal experience during your stay at our beloved unit ... we like to think we do a good job of describing the nature of the place, and hope you'll understand that space is just incredbily limited when having the benefit of being just steps from the beach. As for it being nosiy and people constantly posing for photos around the home -- it's unfortunate that our rating took a hit for something that's true of the area you chose to rent in ... of course, this is the case for *every* unit in the Venetian complex during the summer weeks! But we fully understand and respect that staying right on Capitola Beach in the summer just might not be for everyone. We are sorry that you feel resentful about the fact that have travelers bring their own linens - but I want to point out that we make this more than clear ahead of time. (It's posted in the property description, was in the rental agreement you signed, and was in the "Last Minute Letter" we sent with the lockbox code, etc.) We realize that this isn't the most convenient for our renters - however, you will find that the two other 3-bedroom Venetian condos charge more than DOUBLE what we charge. And this is the primary reason that we are able to keep our rate so much lower... we have considered providing linens, however we'd have to increase our rate significantly, and have chosen not to do this. I must admit, we've never had ANY other guest tell us they've encountered the smell you describe... we've also not been able to find the "visible mold" on the ceiling you stated, so I'm not quite sure how to respond to that. But once again, we sincerely apologize for your experience - and want you to know that we'll definitely be on the lookout for any other feedback that others have anything close to the experience that you had! FOR POTENTIAL NEW RENTERS: The above review can be summed up best as: "let's just agree to disagree." What I CAN say is that even though our cleaning staff found the home in the worst state they've *ever* seen it in, and we'd hoped the renter would've just done the right thing by paying the minimal charges for the damages our home incurred (scratches on the bottom of a bathroom sink, stains on mattress pads and pillow covers and pet hair *covering* the cushions of one couch which wasn't present one day before this rental) - when he threatened legal action for our requested charges, we chose to just let him be on his way. RE: his comment about my "poor communication" - it would've been more honest if he'd have acknowledged that in the first FIVE messages he sent us, I responded either same-day or by the next day. But I will admit I did make a mistake in my calendar, and didn't send him the lockbox code until a few hours before his check-in time. (Tho after this experience, and having evidence of so much dishonesty from this individual, I admit I have to wonder: why would anyone need the lockbox code *more* than a few hours before the check-in time anyway?) What I can also add is that since his stay, we have upgraded the Kitchen with new appliances - and that I myself am 5'9" and while the shower height isn't as high as I'd like in an ideal world, I can say with certainty that no 5'6" person must "bend over to take a shower." I can assure you that we never ever treat a guest "like a liar" - however when we have photos of the home before a person's stay and photos of the home when our cleaning crew arrives upon their departure ... there's really not much more proof that's necessary to feel assured that our conclusions are correct. We hope you'll use your best judgment, not to mention all the many excellent reviews our property has received by other guests before and since his stay, before taking this one review to heart.
