Casa de Josefa is a traditional but spacious Berber style house just below the picturesque church in Capileira, nestling in the heart of the friendly local community. Its large lounge and open fire make a comfortable place to relax in the evenings. From its roof terrace and lounge there are stunning views across the Poqueira valley, up to the high Sierra mountains, snow-covered for much of the year, down to the Mediterranean coast. The many walkers, who use Capileira as their base, contribute to the lively atmosphere of the town. From the front door you can walk down to the next village (Bubion) for coffee; or down to the Poqueira river (1 hour) or across the valley and up into the mountains. A walker's paradise. For those on wheels a short drive up to the entrance to the National Park will reward you with views of the Mediterranean and even the African coastline and mountains on a clear day. There are plenty of activities, including mountain biking, horse riding, Flamenco courses, climbing , art classes...

Casa Josefa se establece en el corazĆ³n de la comunidad amigable de Capileira, pueblo considerado uno de los mĆ”s bonitos de EspaƱa.
Situada en la ladera de la montaƱa de Sierra Nevada, desde su terraza, se avista, las cercanas cumbres de la Sierra Nevada, Nevada la ayor parte del aƱo y mirando hacia el sur, la costa mediterrƔnea y la montan lejana costa africana.
Es una casa de mƔs de 150 aƱos de edad, reformada manteniendo su estilo tradicional berƩber pero muy espaciosa.

Absolutely wonderful

The host, Elena, was very responsive and helpful. Casa Josefa is comfortable and very tastefully decorated with outstanding views from both the balcony and the terrace. The center of the village is close as our some gorgeous hikes. We loved our stay in Capileira !

Taking in the amazing views

This property is a wonderful traditional cottage. If your looking for something authentic and charming, this is the one. The views are amazing. There is plenty of space and it is very comfortable. If you have mobility problems or are looking for ultra modern then its not for you. I love this place. I recommend this house and this village. It has many good restaurant that you can walk to but you can cook your own meals in the well equiped kitchen. You will need a car.

Absolutely fabulous....

Thanks to Elena for a wonderful stay in Capilieria - the house was really cosy, spotlessly clean and had everything you would need - home away from home. We love this part of the world and enjoyed some fantastic hikes, then back to the casa to light the fire and enjoy the comforts of Casa Josefa. We will definitely be back - muchas gracias Elena.

Lovely cozy home

Casa Josefa is a very special small home. It has been recently renovated with fresh paint, windows, doors, appliances and fixtures. The slate floors are beautiful. Furnishings are a mixture of nice antiques and basic new. Kitchen was well stocked and the bed was comfortable. It's very cosy with great views. The bedrooms are nicely heated but the rest of the home relies on two wood stoves which are a fair bit of work if it's chilly out. The house was unheated when we arrived and took several hours to get comfortable. Wood costs 8 euros per bag and we used two per day to stay warm with temps ranging from 5-10 C. If you don't mind the work and expense it can add to the ambiance but may not be for everyone in the cool season. The owner could not have been nicer. She was accessible and very helpful. Really the complete package. Highly recommended overall.

Sehr schƶnes Ferienhaus!!

Die "Casa Josefa" ist ein wunderbares Ferienhaus. Wer sich gerne in alten, liebevoll renovierten HƤusern aufhƤlt, wird hier voll auf seine Kosten kommen. Die beiden Schlafzimmer im Untergeschoss sind sehr gemĆ¼tlich. Die KĆ¼che ist gerƤumig und mit allem ausgestattet, was man benƶtigt. Das Wohnzimmer mit seinen beiden Sofas ist auch an heiƟen Tagen kĆ¼hl und wunderbar geeignet fĆ¼r eine kleine Siesta. Im Winter ist es mit dem groƟen Kamin bestimmt auch toll. Die Dachterasse bietet einen tollen Ausblick ins Tal und auf die Berge. Capileira bietet eine Vielzahl netter Restaurants und Bars. Gut gekennzeichnete Wege erlauben kĆ¼rzere (und auch lƤngere) Wanderung in der Sierra Nevada. Thank you very much Elena & Thierry!!

Sehr gut fĆ¼r wandern und biken, ruhige Lage. Sehr nette Vermieterin.

Das einzige was als Negativpunkt zu erwƤhnen ist, sind die StĆ¼hle auf der Terrasse. Diese sind Ƥusserst unbequem bzw. Teilweise kaputt.

Nette und ursprĆ¼nglichliche Fw, die allerdings nicht fĆ¼r Menschen mit Behinderung geeignet ist. Toll geeignet fĆ¼r Touren in der Sierra Nevada. Urlaub mal ganz anders als an der Costa del Soll Ć¼blich. Authentisches Dorfleben, trotzdem auch eine gewisse touristische Infrastruktur. Nette Vermieterin.

The house was conveniently located in the village and the views were superb. Everything needed for your stay is available in the house and Elena explained about the various appliances etc on our arrival. Access to various walks is straight forward and the sign posting is very good. The local restaurants are all within a 5 minutes walk away and the food is excellent but beware of the portion sizes as they are LARGE!! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Capileira and our stay in Casa Josefa and we will definitely return in the future.

Lots of character

Casa Josefa is very conveniently located near local amenities, but also very quiet and peaceful. There are beautiful views across the valley, especially from the roof terrace, which is also a great place to spend your siesta (weather permitting). There are many good waymarked walking routes nearby, with beautiful sceneries - and ascents that really get your heart rate up! The house is as comfortable as a centuries old Berber house can be - it had been very cold and windy, so it took us a while to get it warmed up. On the other hand, I would imagine it stays nice and cool during hot summers. Elena and Thierry are very sympathetic, helpful hosts. It was easy to communicate with them and they really made us feel welcome. We loved our holiday here and hope to be able to visit again soon.

We loved Cas Josefa - even better than the photographs! Tucked away in a quite part of the village, clean, we'll equip the and perfect for a walking holiday in Las Alpujarras. Would not hesitate to give a 5 star rating and will definitely be planning a return trip.

Really great place to stay in Capileira!

We really enjoyed our stay at Elenas and Thierry lovely Berber house. It is extremely clean and feels very homely. The furnishings are good quality and you are provided with everything you could possibly need. The views from the lounge windows are wonderful of the magnificent Poqueiro valley. Although the village is lively at the weekends the position of this house, situated on the side of the gorge, provides a real haven of peace, with constant birdsong and the tinkleing bells of goatherds. It's a great spot for walkers as you can set straight off from the house on the magnificent walks. The scenery is fabulous, the air fresh, spring flowers everywhere plus blue skies. What more could you want? This was our second visit to the magnificent Alpujarras. We will definitely be returning.

Comfortable casa with spectacular views

We loved this comfortable casa! It was very well equipped and the views from the lounge (and roof terrace) were just amazing! The bedrooms were warm and the bed super-comfy. We appreciated the warm brushed-cotton bedding and extra blankets, as it was quite cool in February when we were there. The fire in the lounge warmed the bathroom too by a clever vent system. Firewood was available to purchase just a couple of doors down from Casa Josefa. The village of a Capiliera is very pretty and interesting just to stroll around. However, it has all we needed for our holiday in terms of a small supermarket, bakery, pharmacy and some lovely restaurants. We would definitely stay in Capiliera at Casa Josefa again as it was a great base for walking, our main reason for holidaying at this time of year. I wish we could have stayed for longer this time - thank you Elena and family for making us feel so welcome.

Excellent sƩjour dans un beau village vivant et paisible, posƩ sur le flanc de la montagne .

Accueil agrĆ©able par les propriĆ©taires qui vivent Ć  cĆ“tĆ©. La maison est amĆ©nagĆ©e avec beaucoup de goĆ»t, on ne manque de rien et la vue sur le paysage est splendide du matin au soir. La terrasse ne protĆØge cependant pas des regards ( village classĆ©) mais offre assez de place pour y manger ou se reposer devant la montagne. Le village est un village d'artistes mais aussi d'amateurs de randonnĆ©es Ć  pied ou Ć  vĆ©lo. Nous avons beaucoup aimĆ© ces jours d'Ć©tĆ© passĆ©s Ć  Capileira dans cette charmante maison.

special house in a special village

such a lovely village property with glorious views down the valley beyond. Very well equipped, comfortable and with a brilliant roof-top terrace. Village peaceful but all facilities available and easy access to stunning mountain or valley walks. Owners are really friendly and available if anything is needed or local advice required. Great restaurants and cafes in the village and there are other villages in easy walking distance that offer similar options. There is a mountain bus that goes in to the heart of the seirra nevada to enable a brilliant day out in the mountains. Highest peak on mainland Spain is in striking distance - go for it, it is worth it.
