Best Backpacker in Cape Town
The Ashanti Lodge is not to be compared with international backpackers. It pays its dues to the beautiful scenery of Cape Town and one cannot stress enough the lodge character rather than the type of accommodation as backpacker. From check-in to departure the service was friendly and the accommodation neat (not very spacious though) and value for money even if travelling with your partner. Among all the backpackers in Cape Town this is the one to book!

Friendly welcoming staff since landing with an earIier flight and have an event to attend by 11:00 am. My luggage was safely kept as I was four hours earlier for booking - in. Wow the place is spotless clean kitchen, bathroom 👌👌👌 All kinds of transportation by the gate. Really enjoyed my stay.

A overland truck stop and people living in facilities. People working aren't helpful except 1 girl bar and kitchen staff very rude.

Nice hostell and friendly staff.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful in every way. The backpackers breakfast was lovely and set you up for the day and the views were spectacular especially of table mountain. The rooms were well equipped,bedding clean and bed comfortable. Some of the plugs didn’t work but that’s okah there were more than enough. Overall would definitely recommend to friends due to the friendliness and clean and modern facilities.

Ashanti Lodge Review
Owen and the girl behind the counter were great and John the security guard. They were very helpful. The place itself is very nice, although it comes with the expected 'discomfort' of sharing a room. There was also a duck quacking continuously and really loudly in the morning which woke me. Beyond that, shower facilities and breakfast was awesome. I would recommend the stay.

Breakfast was fantastic. People in the corridor talking till late was disturbing. To use wifi I had to come out into the lobby area, which was not convenient.

Very good backpackers.
A very good backpackers accomandation which also has rooms. Excellent activities desk. Excellent fast included wifi. Close to Long Street which has many curio shopping options and great range of entertainment and eating options. Only bad experience was having to pay extra on checking out due to a variance in what Expedia charge my for Queen Room and what they passed on to the Ashanti which is very disappointing.

Nice, but pick your room carefully.
Everything good about Ashanti, but make sure if you don't like noise or cigarette smoke, don't get a room that adjoins the big balcony overlooking the city - people sit out there until late each night and both noise and smoke come through the windows.

Thanks for your review. I am so sorry about the guest on the balcony. There are big signs asking people not to smoke there so clearly we should police it a bit better! The balcony doors are also closed from 11 to ensure that guests are not disturbed too late. I am glad that you enjoyed the rest of the property!! Thanks Lisa

Jeg ble positivt overrasket da jeg kom til hostellet. Sengen var komfortabel, det var rent, en god atmosfære og jeg følte det var trygt å legge igjen verdisaker på rommet. Hostellet hadde badebasseng med solsenger, rimelig frokostbuffet (ikke inkludert) og fin oppdeling av toaletter/dusjer. Noe støy, men dette ernoe man må regne med når man bor på en slik plass. Alt i alt veldig fornøyd med oppholdet

Quite noisy
Initially had a very noisy room next to the pool with tables outside in the evening where you could hear every word. Then moved to a room near reception which was very noisy in the morning. The area is not safe to walk after dark so the food offered could be a bit more expansive.

Hi Chris Thanks for your constructive criticism. I apologise for the noise around the pool - guests do like to sit there in the evening, but we move them on when it gets late. Nous avions 3 nuits dans ce backpackers avec une mini chambre située juste à côté de la piscine et nous n'avons pas réussi à dormir une nuit complète ... des gens parlaient très fort la nuit tombée, voir même rigolaient et se baignaient à 1-2h du matin ... les femmes de ménage parlent très (trop) fort le matin, mais le ménage n'est pas forcément au rendez-vous :( Si vous aimez les ambiances style Ibiza, c'est pour vous, si c'est pour vous reposer, passez votre chemin.

I am so sorry that you did not get a good night's sleep whilst you were here. We have now made a decision that no one is to be around the pool after 9pm so hopefully that should help! I trust that you still enjoyed your stay in our wonderful town?

Schlechtes Bistro und sehr laut
Nachts wurde vor unserem Zimmer Party gemacht und im Pool geplanscht so das wir schlecht schlafen konnten. Normalerweise sind wir gegen Lärm unempfindlich aber im Zimmer war es so laut wie draußen. Das Bistro ist auch nicht zu empfehlen! Nach unserer Ankunft wollten wir mal eben schnell einen Burger im Hotel eigenen Bistro essen. Nach 1 h bekommen wir einen lauwarmen Burger. Ich konnte nicht beobachten, dass in dieser Zeit andere Bestellungen aus der Küche kamen.

I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. There are times when guests stay up late talking around the pool, but the night manager is supposed to move them along - specially if you ask him!

Thanks for you for your review. I presume you mean Beds in Dorm are too short for you? Most people seem to be OK with it - we even had a rugby team last week! But it seems that everything else was to your looking which is great!

Linen has lots lots of stains. First day my room was not cleaned & toilet had spiders in it. No bar fridge in the room for visitors to put either water.

A lovely place to stay
I read some of the reviews beforehand to see people complaining about noise; or cleanliness of the public areas; or even complaining about other guests. Considering it is a backpackers; and that is the nature of backpackers (which people should know if that is the experience they're booking for), I was rather surprised to see people complaining. As far as backpackers' go; this one was pretty decent (stayed in a few in Europe too). Right at the foot of table mountain; you get breath taking views from pretty much anywhere in the complex; but the best is just outside the bar/ food area on the 2nd floor. We were merely using the place as a stop over after the MCQP party and were pleasantly surprised that it was so close to Cape Town City Hall, meaning our taxi's back from the venue didn't cost too much. Staff are friendly; and the layout of the backpackers creates a delightful atmosphere. The rest of the guests seemed to be a convoy of Germans who were quite clicky; so didn't talk too much to them. It was an enjoyable stay; we took the twin room at R650 a night; which may seem steep considering it's a backpackers; but the rooms are a decent size and considering the hotel is so well placed and the time of year; it was a bargain really.
