Stunning uninterrupted moorland views over lake and Rough Tor

Mabel's Cottage offers a delightful rural retreat located on the edge of the moors and yet is only a few miles from the beautiful North Cornish coastline. The well known Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle are all close by, along with the beautiful beach at Trebarwith Strand, and wonderful walks such as the Camel trail and St Necten's Glen to name but a few!
Climb the Tor, meet the local sheep, cows, chickens and ponies, listen to the birdsong. We have swallows nesting in the summer and the famous starling murmurations fly overhead twice a day from mid October until early spring. A real sight to behold.

Simply perfect

If you want to experience Cornwall in its most natural form, then you've come to the right place. Even the drive to the apartment is an experience. But the highlight is the view of the lake and the surrounding countryside. A magnificent view directly from the living room. Furthermore, the accommodation is tastefully furnished with great care and is very clean. The very friendly owners, Wendy and John, live right next door and are happy to help with any questions. Overall, a perfect accommodation, and one would give more than 5 stars. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Perfect tranquility

This cottage is about as good as they get. Absolutely beautifully presented, very clean and comfortable. The ā€˜sun roomā€™ was an amazing space to enjoy the views and the nature which surrounded us. All you can hear is birds and wildlife. The hosts, John and Wendy live in the farmhouse onsite, but you never see as they respectful and discrete. But if you do need assistance (as we did due to our car braking down and having no transport to return home) they went above and beyond what is expected, for which we are truly thankful. We would recommend this property to anyone who wishes to experience the peace and quiet it offers, and time to get away from lifeā€™s rat race! We hope to return in the near future.

Ɯber Mabels Cottage und seine Besitzer ist bereits alles Wichtige geschrieben worden- es ist groƟartig dort. Eine der allerbesten Home-away UnterkĆ¼nfte, die wir je hatten. Wenn Sie sich also nach einer aufwendigen Anreise aus zB Deutschland so wie wir auf den Weg nach Cornwall machen, phantastische Natur, Stille, freundliche Begegnungen und eine wunderschƶne Unterkunft zu schƤtzen wissen, werden Sie dort ein kleines Paradies vorfinden. Es fiel uns schwer, abzureisen.

Could not have been better! Cream tea upon arrival. Great communication with hints/recommendations about local places to visit. So much to see locally, including a great hike up nearby Rough Tor. Lovely accommodation so well thought out and maintained. Owners great, too. We loved it!

Perfect Start To Married Life

The most wonderful experience!Wendy and John were the perfect hosts and made us so very welcome.Mabel's Cottage was a pure joy to stay in, it had absolutely everything you could possibly need so cosy and comfortable with nothing but birdsong and farm animals to listen to. So tranquil to sit outside of an evening and just gaze across the lake towards Rough Tor.Perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area.It gave us the perfect holiday after a full on few days previously with our wedding.Would 100% recommend and would definitely return in the future

A great stay!

This is a wonderful little place. Wendy and John are excellent hosts - John even let us feed their sheep. It's a little bit of an adventure down single track lanes to reach the property, but (as with much of Cornwall) the views are worth it. It's well placed for picturesque spots along the coast, as well as a walk up Rough Tor. The new sun room is beautiful and makes an ideal place to wind down, and in good weather the patio and garden space is lovely too. Thank you!

Dream location, holiday apartment with winter garden

The holiday apartment is beautifully located - but a little out of the way. You definitely need a car. The cottage is tastefully and fully equipped. Everything you need is there and it was very clean. Wendy welcomed us with homemade scones and flowers we picked ourselves. John and Wendy let you use their beautiful garden for the duration of your stay, including the terrace with a view of the lake. The winter garden is a beautiful additional room. Wendy and John are extremely friendly and accommodating. I will definitely go there again because I really liked the area. I discovered a new "place to be" for myself there. Fantastic location

Perfect for two people, cottage finished to a high standard and very clean. Location is amazing, private with fantastic unspoilt views from the conservatory, which we were informed is being extended for next year. Lots of places to visit and eat out within easy reach should you want to, or just stay in and enjoy the peace and quiet and relax. We would definitely stay here again, thank you John & Wendy for our week.

Geweldig uitzicht vanaf stilste plek ooit

Mabel's Cottage, vernoemd naar een van de kippen van eigenaars John en Wendy, is een heerlijke plek voor wie rust, stilte en ruimte zoekt. Het uitzicht op de Rough Tor is in het echt nog veel mooier dan de foto's kunnen laten zien. Je kunt er naartoe lopen en via de andere kant van het meertje weer terug, maar dat is verder dan je denkt, doordat een nieuwe buurman zijn hele terrein met hekken en (heel on-Engels) KEEP OUT- borden heeft omzoomd. Op het terrasje aan de rand van de tuin waan je je haast in een filmdecor, zo fraai. Maar ook het kleine terrasje bij de openslaande deuren van de serre is een heerlijke plek, vooral als er wat wind staat. Wij hadden veel geluk met het weer en hebben elke dag mooie wandelingen gemaakt in de omgeving. Ook een deel van het South West Coast Path, dat we de week ervoor door de regen hadden gemist, hebben we alsnog kunnen lopen. Je hebt wel absoluut eigen vervoer nodig hier. En een niet al te brede auto, want de toegangswegen zijn spannend smal. Het huisje zelf is gezellig en comfortabel ingericht en groot genoeg voor twee. De keuken is ruim en werd voor onze komst volgens mij nog amper gebruikt. De oven was nog helemaal nieuw. Er staat een fijne cream tea op je te wachten in de koelkast, maar verder zijn koffie, thee, peper en zout de enige basics. Handig om daar rekening mee te houden als je van plan bent zelf te koken. John en Wendy zijn supervriendelijk en gunnen je je privacy. Al met al hebben we hier een heerlijke week gehad.

Sehr schƶnes Cottage in idyllischer Lage

Wir haben die Tage in Mabels Cottage sehr genossen. Bei regnerischem Wetter konnte man es sich hier gemĆ¼tlich machen und die Ruhe genieƟen. Sobald es trocken war, lockten Wanderungen im direkten Umfeld und AusflĆ¼ge an die nahegelegende KĆ¼ste. Wendy und John sind ƤuƟertst freundliche und hilfsbereite Gastgeber!

Wonderful house at a wonderful place

Das Haus liegt tatsƤchlich wunderschƶn oberhalb des Stannon Lake gelegen mit Sicht auf den Rough Tor. Zusammen mit dem Haus der Vermieter ist das ein sehr schƶnes, sehr liebevoll gestaltetes Anwesen. Das Haus ist sehr schƶn eingerichtet, alles ist in erstklassigem Zustand. Wendy und John wohnen im Haupthaus und sind superfreundliche Gastgeber. Wir lieben es einsam, und einsam ist es dort; ein Auto macht absolut Sinn. Das Haus ist absolut zu empfehlen, wir hatten eine sehr schƶne Zeit (auch wenn das Wetter nicht so doll war...)

Romantische Oase mit wunderbarer Aussicht

Wir haben 10 wunderbare Tage hier verbracht. Die Lage ist entzĆ¼ckend, das Cottage ist unterhalb des HaupgebƤude von Wendy und John, und hat einen eigenen Parkplatz. Das Haus ist sehr sauber, hochwertig und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Wenn es mal kƤlter ist, ist eine komfortable Heizung vorhanden. Die Aussicht im Wintergarten auf das Moor und den See ist wunderbar und beruhigend. Wir haben uns sogar auf die Regentage gefreut, um es mit einem guten Buch zu geniesen. An den schƶnen Tagen haben wir KĆ¼stenwanderungen zwischen Boscastle und St. Ives gemacht, die KĆ¼ste ist traumhaft zum Wandern, entspannen und Essen. Das war sicher nicht unser letzter Besuch in Cornwall, und wir wĆ¼rden auch das Cottage jederzeit wieder buchen.

Bank Holiday getaway.

Mabel's Cottage is a lovely stone cottage just right for two.With stunning views (when you can see it through the rain!!! Typical bank holiday weather.) Plenty of free entertainment from the birds at the bird feeder. Thank you John and Wendy for a great short stay.

Wonderful location with great views exactly as described. Great cottage, very comfortable with everything provided that was needed. Lovely owners who welcomed us personally, provided a cream tea on arrival and then lit the fire pit for us to sit outside one evening. We would love to return!

We had a wonderful stay at Mabelā€™s cottage. John and Wendy were great hosts, very easy check in and then left us to enjoy our stay, but weā€™re on hand if we needed it. The cottage is really comfortable with amazing outdoor space and views over the tor. We only wish we had stayed longer. We will be back!
