  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié l'accueil de Thomas qui a pris le temps de nous en dire un peu plus sur l'histoire de la Belgique et de Bruges. L'appartement était globalement conforme aux photos et spacieux. Sa localisation était idéale. L'arrivée a été très facile. Nous avons trouvé dommage qu'il n'y avait pas de plaque de cuisson dans la cuisine (ce qui ne ressort pas clairement de l'annonce). Il faisait également très froid à notre arrivée (16,5 degrés) et il nous a fallu plus d'une nuit pour arriver à une température un peu plus confortable (19,5 degrés). Malgré cela, nous recommandons cet hébergement pour les visiteurs de la belle ville de Bruges !

Ruime accommodatie in een mooi historisch pand op een goede ligging dicht bij het centrum. Vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaar. Alles is aanwezig. Alleen zijn de matrassen aan vervanging toe en moet er nog wat schilderwerk e.d. opgeknapt worden. Maar deze punten wegen niet op tegen de plussen en daarom kan ik deze accommodatie ten zeerste aanbevelen.

Our host, Thomas, was wonderful. Eager to help, he spent time with us describing Bruges’ history which proved very informative during our trip. The rooms were spotless, with comfortable beds and linens. Last but not least, the location was unbeatable, moments from the center. Just a great stay.

This flat was perfect for our family of five. Perfectly located close to everything but on a quiet street. Thomas was a lovely host, we tried several of his recommendations on restaurants, and we found them all to be excellent. We appreciate that he took the time to give us some history about the house, and Brugge in general. This accommodation is highly recommended, 5 stars! We would definitely try to stay there again should we ever be back.

This flat is wonderful! It is truly in the best spot in town, quiet and quaint within a very short walk to all the beauty and majesty of Brugge. Would stay here again in a heartbeat and would suggest to friends if they are in Brugge.This is exactly as advertised and the owners were amazing to deal with in all the planning and during our stay.The check in process was perfect. The amenities were wonderful, clean and well organized.Parking garage is very close - a few blocks. It was a reasonable amount for covered and secure parking during our stay.

Excellent Location, Check-in Process, and Host

Out stay was wonderful and due to a flight delay we had to check-in very late at night. The key is in a lockbox outside the door, so very easy access and directions on how to enter. Thomas was a terrific host, sharing a bit about the history of the city and welcoming our family of five (2 adults and 3 children ages 3-9). The place is very clean and has all the items mentioned, including a hair dryer which I was thankful for. The location of this home is outstanding - you will not need a vehicle as this is just a 2 minute walk to city center. We did take the train/bus into town which was a 15 minute walk to this home right through the heart of the city. We'd highly recommend this home to anyone staying in the area.

The perfect flat in Bruges

This flat was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Thomas was proactive in providing check-in details and provided a wonderful welcome with an overview and history of Bruges. The location was extremely quiet, but close to everything. This was an excellent property!

Gracious Host in a beautiful city.

Strongly recommend. The apartment is part of the owner's home and is off the entry foyer. You walk into the foyer and then you have your own key into the building and into your apartment. The owner's space is separate, and we ran into him only once. He was very generous and gracious. He communicated throughout our travels and during our stay. When we arrived, he showed us this old map of Bruges and gave us a history of the city and explained how 90% of the streets on that map are still there today. Thus, you could actually use that map today. He should us the apartment and answered any questions we had. Due to changes in housing rental codes, there is no stove top, but there is a microwave/convection oven machine. There was also a coffee maker with coffee available.The apartment was well equipped, and the beds were comfortable. The apartment is located about 10 minutes from the main plaza in Bruges. It is a great location.We took the Bus from the train station to the closest stop and then walked a few minutes to the apartment. Very easy to find. When we departed, we took the same bus to the train station.There is an information book provided with information about the area, wi-fi sign-in, and recommendations on restaurants and things to see.I recommend staying here and hope to be back some day.

We Enjoyed Our Stay

Thomas, the host, is very helpful and responsive. The apartment is very clean and spacious. The location couldn’t be better. The only item missing is the stove which was not allowed by the city.

Clean, welcoming, and perfectly located

My party of six (four adults and two children) had a wonderful stay here in Bruges. Thomas was very accommodating and friendly; he took the time to orient us to the neighborhood and the historic building in which the apartment is located. The apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated, with newer appliances and comfortable furnishings. We loved being able to walk to the market square for shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend this location and home for families traveling to Bruges.
