Perfect no thrills get-away!!
Laurel could not have been a more gracious host. She went WAY out of her way to assist me in replacing my cell phone after I accidentally dropped it in the lake 2 hours after arriving!! The location and views are everything the website says. There will be more visits to the Book House. W

Kicking back on the Lake
The cabin was excellent , just as it was mentioned when we looked it up. Right on the lake , cozy , everything you needed was there , great setup with the appliances Coffee , toaster, microwave,everything plugged in and ready to use. We really enjoyed our time , exactly what we expected in a cabin. Laurel was a great host , any guestions , she would get right back to you. We will be back again.

Great Little Glamping Experience!
Laurel has set up a beautiful little Vermont glamping getaway! We were greeted with a bottle of wine and some chocolate, as well as a gorgeous view of Lake Champlain. While the property itself is definitely off the beaten path, it’s close to everything you might need or want to do. We hiked Snake Mountain and Silver Lake, spent a day in Burlington, and were out on the water in the kayaks she offers as well. Overall a lovely experience for a couple, or an awesome little hideaway if you’re looking to mostly unplug and enjoy some quiet time!

Great vacation!
We were looking for a quiet and peaceful spot for our vacation and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Book House is exactly what we wanted and is very cozy and charming in a beautiful location. Sunsets were amazing and while there were a few days with rainy evenings, we had fun in the cottage listening to music, streaming movies on our laptop (wifi works great!) and playing Scrabble. We had our dog with us and we had fun driving through country roads, hiking and exploring Middlebury and Burlington both of which are not too far away. Thank you Laurel for helping make this such a wonderful vacation!

Love, love, love!
If you're looking for a place to escape, book it to the small but mighty kitschy Book House! The cabin has everything you need, inside & out, and is a great home base location. There's parks, trails, Middlebury (don't miss this cool town) and Burlington. If you decide to drive to places, take the long way, its beautiful. Laurel was right on. Had suggestions, quick to respond prior to and during our stay. It had been raining quite a bit, and she checked in to be sure no issues came up. Sitting on the porch in a thunder storm watching the sunset was unforgettable.

Relaxing and beautiful
We needed a couples getaway. We could not have found a more perfect place. We enjoyed the lake, playing games on the porch, watching sunset and even enjoyed the peaceful rain. Laura was so friendly and accommodating. Even made our puppy feel welcomed. Only wish this place was closer to home. Thank you so much again Laura for providing us with a much needed break from life.

Funky and fun as described
The stay was lovely! The location is gorgeous, with a great view of the lake right out the front door. There are properties to either side but they're not really in-your-face and quiet so I never felt like there were other people intruding on the vacation. Enjoyed using the fire pit outside and the interior was cozy. Definitely should only come here with a close loved one as there's essentially no privacy inside with no separation from the bath to the living room/kitchen. We ran into some issues with the propane grill, but Laurel was beyond accommodating and got us a new charcoal grill and charcoal to use instead! We made use of the kayaks one day and it was great on the lake despite some windy chop. The location served well as a jumping point to Burlington or Shelburne for a day trip for activities outside the cabin. Shelburne Museum and Shelburne Farms were great visits I'd recommend if you want to go out. One big thing to note that's not related to the property at all - avoid Liberty Lane. Google Maps took us down this terribly-maintained dirt "road" in the last leg of the drive to the cabin. I don't know if it was just particularly bad after the winter but the ruts were so deep and wide the bottom of my sedan was scraping the dirt and rocks and i had to drive up the side to stay out of them. Easily avoided road, though, with several other roads around it, so just don't take it. Thanks Laurel for the stay, hope the readers take a chance to get away at this property!

Daniel, thanks for the Liberty Lane reminder. GPS takes guests that way whenever I forget to warn them. Thanks for coming and being great sports about the grill and the wind swept lake. You toughed it out with those kayaks like real pros. !

Perfect Vermont Experience!
This was the Absolutely Perfect place to Experience Vermont and Celebrate My Wife’s 50th Trip around the Sun! This cottage had everything that we needed for a relaxing and peaceful get away. The inside is minimal, but Absolutely Perfect for the two of us to chill out and rest. It was honestly the outside area that captured our hearts! Walking outside to a quaint covered area, with a table for two, to enjoy our meals while taking in a Fantastic View of Lake Champlain with New York and Adirondack Mountains on the other side. We thoroughly enjoyed using the fire pit at night while listening to the waves, the wind and (honestly) not much else … No cars, No Sirens, No Crowds! There is private access to the lake/beach with another fire pit right by the lake. We were lucky enough to visit during an early November warm spell so we spent most of our days (and nights) outside … Not warm enough to take advantage of the kayaks and the canoe, but we will do that next time! Laurel is a Fantastic Host! From communication with us during the booking and planning process to checking in on us during our trip to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely reach out to her if you have any questions about the cottage or the surrounding area.

Not the best experience
The cabin was super cute inside and was in a gorgeous spot, but unfortunately it had a strong mildew sour smell when we arrived. Rather than complain, we thought we'd just leave a couple windows open to try and air it out while we went out for a couple of hours. When we got back, the windows were closed and we had a rude email from the owner saying she came by after we left. We thought it was very weird she came by to check up on us (we're a couple in our mid 30s). She chastised us for leaving an outdoor light on and the windows open while the heat was on. She went on to tell us we were very uncool and disrespectful. We were shocked that she came by when we weren't there and came into the unit invading our privacy over a light left on and a couple screened windows open a few inches. We paid quite a lot of money to stay there for 4 nights, I don't think I deserved to be reprimanded for an open window or a light. The fact that we had such little privacy or control of the space was unnerving. And we wouldn't of had to leave a window open at all if it wasn't for the smell. Plus, there are nicer ways to approach paying guests should there be an issue or concern. I apologized to avoid any escalation, but it made me upset and I felt very unwelcome and under surveillance. We had to decide between a bad smell or being cold for the rest of the trip as she made it very clear we could have windows open or heat, but not both and I had no doubt she would be watching. The place was also very dusty, the tub was unusable dirty, and the whole place needs a deep clean. There was perishable food left in the fridge from previous guests. We understand the place had a bohemian kind of feel and layout, but we were still expecting it to be at a certain level of cleanliness. My guess is that the property has been getting away with a very quick once-over kind of clean between guests for a long time and now it's caught up with them and the place needs a very thorough deep clean.

Was so sorry to disturb you! I was in town, down at the other house, and around 11am noticed the outdoor lights on. Thought I was put my hand through the door and turn off. That's when I noticed all the windows open and gas fireplace blazing. If it had been left like that all day, it would have been not only wasteful but expensive. Instead of deducting money from your deposit I made the choice to go in and close the windows and turn down the heat. I am really sorry to hear about the musty smell. Never mentioned to me before - and I'm also really sorry you weren't happy with the clean! I need to know immediately so that I can have the cleaning person come down pronto. Thanks for allowing the heat people to come in and clean the fireplace while you were there. And also thanks for leaving the place so neat when you left except for all the dog hair. I appreciate your feedback and will focus in on whatever musty smell that was. The cottage is so near the lake that in autumn the musty smell could be the leaves and lake breeze. I asked previous guest about it, they smelled nothing, so will keep checking!

Wonderful and Unique! Fantastic lake Views!
Loved this little eclectic cottage at the edge of the lake in the woods. It has everything you need in a compact nicely decorated space. For the outdoor lovers, multiple windows with views and three strategic outdoor sitting areas are an absolute delight. The heating with a sweet gas fireplace makes it cozy and warm. Everything you need to prepare a meal is available including spices, pans, microwave and oven. Laurel is an absolutely awesome host who goes above and beyond to assist her guests. Can’t wait to go back!

Wonderful Lake View
Wonderful eclectic tiny cabin with an amazing view. This cabin has lots of personality. It's populated with what seems like a lifetime's worth of art, ornaments, and books. The space is clean and tight as described. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the amazing view. Laruel was an wonderful host. She was available if we needed her but was invisible until then. Took a hike up the mountain, grabed some fresh cheese from the farm / creamery 5 minutes away ..... but mostly just sat outside, read, enjoyed the view and decompressed. Thanks Laurel !!!.

oh dear, yes, they spread 4 times a year and for a few days after each spread, it's farm farm farm! You caught a bad few days. I hear ya but I guess that's the price we pay for enjoying ice cream!

Great bungalow stay on the lake
My wife and I had a wonderful week at this cool little bungalow. The view of the lake is great. So quiet and peaceful. The description by the owner is right on the money. It was perfect for the two of us in our 29th year of marriage. We hiked snake mountain, canoed on the lake, visited Middlebury, went to Audible Chasm, rode the local ferry, and RELAXED. 😁 The surrounding farm areas of Vermont were green and gorgeous. We couldn’t ask for more from our host and her property! Thank you. Well worth the trip and a good value too.

Can’t beat the view
This was a very fun and funky cottage! The view was fabulous and the location was a great spot to explore Vermont and the Adirondacks. It was well equipped and was just what we were looking for to spend some relaxing time with our pups.

Could have been much better
Have not been reimbursed for the dog fee. We did not bring dogs. We actually ended up cleaning up the prior guest dog mess every day. Lots of dog hair. Sewer smell was horrible. And the local farms were spaying their fields 24/7. The smell was unbearable. We had to purchase a coffee pot that we left for the next guests as there wasn’t one.

happy to reimburse for dog fee, but I see that you didn't pay for the dogs. It seems the sewer smell was really a dead animal underneath your porch! Yes, the farmers spread 3 times a year, you were a tad unlucky in that regard, but some people understand that it's part of Vermont. I don't like it either! From the moment you arrived all you did was complain. You wanted stacked firewood I guess, instead of the endless branches and wood available. I found a chain saw and let you use it. That was a new pour over coffee maker and most people can figure it out. I said I was happy to reinburse you for the coffee maker but you said, Oh no, problem HAPPY to contribute. You had glorious fires every night on the beach, and were kind to invite me down for a nice chat. It seemed that you were having a great time but I sensed a personality disorder.

Perfect getaway.
This was the perfect getaway. It was not hard to find, even in the dark. We had some change of plans for arrival times and it was no problem. The owner offered to work with us if our plans had to change dramatically. We were able to use the canoe and kayaks, enjoy the sunset from the landing, and cook comfortably. Our dog was happy, and we jogged every day. We also hiked at Snake Hill and Moosalamoo. And we found some cool breweries and wineries nearby. Pratt store had the few things we needed, and we bought some local cheese from the creamery nearby. The house was great, and the neighbors were freindly. Although it may seem small by some standards and the bathroom parts in the kitchen... those were a feature, not a problem. We loved it. We played some games and read some books as well.

Classy Rustic
This is one of the most sublime, blissful spots on the planet! The Cabin is adorable, comfortable, clean and is stocked with everything you need. You have 3 different environments for which to view the lake and you are also in a wooded space with beautiful pines and cedars and their smells. Took some amazing sunset photos that will forever be ingrained in my minds eye. My dogs lived the squirrels and swimming in the lake. From someone who is used to sleeping in a tent to have this type of experience, this is Classy Rustic and I loved it! Lori N.

yes the neighbors come from California once a year for two weeks. Otherwise it's empty. You lost the bet on that one!!

As advertised. Pleasant, remote, and very comfortable. Love the artsy decor. Definitely cozy, so go with someone you really like spending time with. Pro tip: bring organic soap, etc., as grey water runs to the lake. If you forget, it's provided.

Relaxing Brief Getaway
The property is well described by the owner. It is cute, cozy and the area is quiet. All utilities worked nicely including the outdoor grill. We enjoyed the great collection and variety of books peppered throughout the cottage. The view is nice and relaxing from the shaded front porch area where we read and enjoyed our cocktails, coffee and many meals.

Bunk house at the lake
The description was spot on. The bunk house is nestled in a beautiful location. The lake and water access were exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed swimming and paddling on the lake. You have a direct view of the mountains. Laurel was a great host. We took trips to Middlebury and Burlington. Highly recommend Mad Taco in Middlebury and biking the Colchester Causeway Trail (you can rent bikes at Local Motion in Burlington). Close to breweries, cideries, restaurants and shopping.

Great summer vacation!
We had a wonderful time at Laurel’s lakefront cottage. The house is very cute, clean, comfy with good WiFi and enough kitchen stuff to make very decent basic meals. The little porch is perfect for lovely, relaxing meals. Lake is beautiful! We had a lot of fun swimming and kayaking every day. (One suggestion is to bring aqua shoes for lake and swimming holes. The lake has a sharp rock bottom and the dollar store aqua shoes we bought two days into our trip made a huge difference.) Laurel was a very friendly host and her recommendations for dining out and nearby attractions were spot on!

A little bit of Heaven....
This was the most cozy peaceful place we have ever stayed.....The cabin has everything you need plus a beautiful view!! My husband and I showed up a bundle of tension and left completely relaxed and content. Its the perfect place to come to if you want to get away from it all yet be close enough to grocery stores and restaurants ( we opted to cook ourselves and eat on the little deck overlooking the lake, you can't beat that!!).....Laurel was the perfect hostess. Unless you’re looking for a romantic, quaint, artsy, quirky, bohemian, funky, friendly, relaxing, comforting and fun stay at a rustic lakeside cottage full of nature’s beauty, amazing sunsets and a really great vibe, this is not the place for you. It was, however, the PERFECT place for us !! Thanks so much, Laurel, for one of our best stays yet !!

Fun little getaway for two!
This property was exactly as Laurel describes it. We had a great time kayaking on the lake and my husband caught a fish from the shore and a few more from the kayak. The views are breathtaking and the bunk house is perfect for a relaxing time away from home! Thanks, Laurel! This was just what we needed!
