Communication with host before arrival was poor, attributed to glitches with VRBO, however he was responsive by text during our stay. No check in/out instructions were given. We spent valuable time & effort managing ants on the kitchen & bathroom counters, top of dishwasher, toaster & coffee pot, bathroom floor, dish & wash cloths. Hair was wrapped around the under surface of the bath mat, used tissue under a bed. Lights in the fridge flickered like a strobe light when the door was open. No dish rack and too few water glasses. Most disappointing was the frigid water in the hot tub after communicating with host pre-arrival about its importance to us & being reassured, “I will ask the cleaning team to prepare it for you.” The service person came, emptied it by bucket & refilled with warm water, after which it took until 5:30 pm on day 2 (of 3) to reach a comfy soaking temp. On the upside, the house is spacious with many windows, a good TV area, & a short stroll down to the water. Overall we were disappointed. The ant problem, overall cleanliness & maintenance were substandard. Inability to use the hot tub for 1/3 of our stay, after having been mislead about its readiness, was upsetting. We felt a partial refund to compensate for the above was fair & appropriate. While the host offered apologies, he adamantly declined even a small compensatory gesture, other than a discount on a future stay, which we will not be doing. We do not recommend this rental.
