Saunton Sands is a firm favourite with beginner surfers thanks to its gentle waves, three-mile stretch of golden beach and turquoise sea.

The apartment, ideal for couples or families, stretches across the entire first floor and feels light and airy inside. Relax with fellow guests in the open-plan lounge, which has a comfy sofa, armchair, Smart TV and – best of all – wall-to-wall sea views. The modern kitchen and dining area set you up for leisurely breakfasts or hearty dinners after a day in the sun. The two beautiful bedrooms both feature super-king-size zip-and-link beds (which can be made into twins) and more of those soothing sea views. You’ll be just 150 metres from the start of the South West Coast Path, giving access to the breathtaking Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve rich in wildlife and rolling dunes. Braunton itself (2 miles) has local shops, pubs and a friendly village vibe. Or head to Croyde Bay (1 mile), located around the headland – a hotspot for surfers and sunseekers alike. Woolacombe (7 miles) is another popular spot, with its expansive beach and yet more sand, surf and scenic views. Golfers will be keen to check out the prestigious 36-hole Saunton Golf Club (0.5 miles).
