just perfect (would love to live there)
absolutely amazing place, we do travel a lot and normally don't do reviews but this time... probably the best place we ever stayed in... really well equipt and situated on edge of very small village (no shops, no street lights, very friendly locals), just perfect if you want to switch off and take break from stress, this place is for you... perfect location for hikers, cyclists and dogs... we loved every minute spent there... even checked availability to stay week longer but my partner couldn't have off... PS: pictures don't make it justice, that's how pretty it is and i've already recommended this place to few friends

An Oasis of calm
We booked this as a last minute visit to family in the area and we were impressed with the location and the size of the property for two people. Warm, comfortable and so much space for us and our two small dogs. Really well equipped and a welcome of fresh eggs and homemade jams. We will certainly try to book again in the future when the need arises.

Cumbrian peace and quiet
This is a lovely and very spacious cottage with excellent facilities, which was warm and comfortable in every way. It has its own enclosed garden and guests can also access the owners' orchard and small wood which was great for short dog walks. The owners are next door and extremely helpful and kind but not at all intrusive. The little village of Farlam is fine for wandering down the lane to, and Talkin Tarn is a short walk away. Other walks are a short drive away. Highly recommended.

Walking holiday
So much bigger than it looks! Lovely cosy cottage + surroundings, excellent location for walking and relaxation by log burner in evenings. Quiet and peaceful, cottage has everything you might need. Would stay again.

Ideal solitude
An amazing place to stay . The actual accommodation is much bigger than we expected which surprised us as we entered the property. We were greeted by the owner who made us feel very welcome , and then we were left alone but knowing that we could ask for anything we needed . I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this great property if you just want to escape , such a very quiet and peaceful place.

A peaceful getaway in a quality cottage with excellent surroundings for my dog
The cottage exceeded my expectations it was large and spacious with everything you could need. Jenia was around if I needed anything and she was helpful and understanding regarding my recent bereavement. Staying for a week has helped me begin to repair myself and I wish me and my dog could have stayed longer a true home from home. The garden was perfect for my dog as were the orchard and woods, she really enjoyed exploring these.

What a Find!
Calf Close Cottage is a tardis! Super spacious for two, lovely and warm and extremely comfortable. The cottage is also well equipped and very clean. It is situated in a peaceful location with an enclosed private back garden. Lovely host and would certainly recommend a stay. We hope to return.

Excellent location
The cottage is ideally situated on the outskirts of the village and benefits from peace and quiet for a totally relaxing holiday. Surprisingly much more spacious than the photos show. The large secure garden was perfect for letting our dog wander freely with no worries. Many walks on the doorstep but these were along minor roads so dogs need to be on lead but lots of off lead walks a short drive away. Can recommend Gelt Woods, Talkin Fell (cattle for a short distance) and many parts of Hadrian’s wall, again some cattle may be encountered along the route. We had a fabulous meal at The Duke of Cumberland at Castle Carrock and food served all day! Unfortunately we did find the bed extremely uncomfortable and lumpy pillows which need replacing, however well equipped kitchen with everything we needed and nice lounge area. Overall despite the bed our stay was relaxing and enjoyable and Jenia the owner was on hand at all times without being obtrusive.

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. You are the first ever to complain about the uncomfortable bed, in fact, they only comments about the bed I ever had were quite the opposite. I do wish you told me abou the pillows, I could have done something about that.

Wonderful stay
We had a fantastic stay here. Was the perfect base to explore the area with lots of great walks located within an hour’s drive away (there are also closer walks too!) We made good use of the bath to relax our tired muscles! The cottage is massive for 2 people with lots of room for a yoga mat. The kitchen is really well equipped. All in all we had a fantastic stay here and hope to return!

What a gem we found
The property was far more spacious than the photos implied, a very well equipped and comfortable cottage in an extremely quiet location ideally situated for exploring the area. The large fenced in garden is ideal if like us you have a Bernese, he loved it. Can highly recommend and would certainly book to stay here again.

If you want nice quiet surroundings with no hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. A lovely cottage which matched its listing, a host that was available but left you alone, and also a short few miles to some eateries, small towns and historical sites - which ever suits - all in all a very relaxing few days, mixed in with some good walks and good food

The area the cottage is located is beautiful and peaceful. The welcome pack is very appreciated. The cottage it’s self is homely and well equipped with a lovely natural back garden on the property and a small wood and orchard fir you to explore.

Stay at Calf's Close
We had a lovely stay at Calf's Close. The cottage was very spacious and extremely well equipped. We got a starter pack of freshly laid eggs, home grown fruit and preserves. The area was a good base for exploring the borders and the Lakes without too much travel. Jenia was very helpful when we needed anything and yet very mindful of our privacy. A lovely week despite mixed weather.

So peaceful & relaxing!!
The cottage was wonderful, well equipped & clean as well as comfy. We immediately felt at home, and couldn’t believe how spacious the cottage was. We especially loved the garden that had the sun all day until about 8pm and the sounds of the sheep & cows was a delight. Jenia was on site if required but not intrusive. The welcome pack was a lovely gesture, fresh eggs & homemade jams.. yum! We enjoyed our stay here and exploring the surrounding sites of talkin tarn, gelt woods and Brampton with all the antique shops to name a few. Overall, highly recommended. Thanks Jenia 😃

Ideal location
A beautiful cottage with plenty of space. There is everything you need as it is so well equipped. If I had to criticise one thing it would be that the fridge freezer is in the hallway away from the kitchen. When making a cuppa you had go for the milk, then return the milk. Same when cooking everything seem to be in the fridge. Apart from that an enjoyable place to stay.

A short break in Cumbria recharged the batteries
The property was correctly listed as being for two people but, being a converted barn, it was surprisingly spacious. Not only that but it was spotless, very well equipped and in a lovely part of the country ideal for someone looking for a quiet break away from the crowd. Jenia, the hostess, was a great hostess and I have no worries recommending this to others looking for a peaceful break in this area.

Warm welcome
You can be assured of a warm welcome when you arrive at Calf Close Cottage. Jenia is the perfect host who allows you time to settle in before she knocks on the door to check that all is okay. The accommodation is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped and the private garden is an extra bonus. Certainly, a place to come back to.

Beautiful peaceful area. Delightful wood to take our dog for a short walk. Could do to receive directions on how to get to the cottage and whether you need to do anything specific on arrival at time of booking. Garden and garden furniture really needs some attention

We are delighted that you liked the area and our wood. Most people also remark on how beautiful, spacious, comfortable, well appointed and well kept the cottage is. Directions on getting here along with all the relevant instructions for what to do upon arrival are available in Hospitality/Welcome Guide once you've booked. That said, an e-mail requesting the information would have done the job. Garden is well maintained and provides nice outdoor space weather permitting, however fades in comparison to Versailles. Garden furniture is functional with table and benches providing ample seating. Additionally, folding fabric chairs are furnished. In our welcome letter, we ask you to let us know if you are missing anything. We try our best to supplement anything that is already provided or to address any issues that may arise to make all our guests even more comfortable and enable them to enjoy their holiday to the fullest.

Such a lovely place with a very nice host. The accommodation is very spacious, clean, and has everything you need. A beautiful garden is perfect for your furry friend. Ideal and very quite location. We were very pleased and would highly recommend this place.

Beautifull large dog friendly cottage,Comfortable clean and spaces. Great location 10/10 from us 🙂.
Thus us the second time myself and Zoe' and Dexter have stayed at this beautifull cottage ..Jenia the owner has been brill , we had the place booked for May but after 2 cancellations, we finally got there. 14 days if just peace and quiet, Dexter had a great time too .if you have a dog and lookibgvforca place to stay I dey recommend this place you will not regret it . We will be coming back for sure loads to see visit and a just perfect local pub The Black Smith's Arms ..good good and top service and just a short walk from Talkn Tarn .Thank you Jenia again came home relaxed and will see you soon .Neil & Zoe' and Dexter 🐶x

I would give this holiday 5 stars early, we had a wounderfull stay We recommend.
The cottage was just perfect, very spacious clean ,the bed comfortable ,if you have a dog well this is the place safe back yard for exercise,shower and hot water good ,kitchen has every thing you will need ,.10/10 in my book .🙂🙂

Country Retreat
The peace, lovely country garden with so many birds, and walks from the door along country lanes with beautiful views and lovely sunsets, make this a real country retreat. It’s in a great place for exploring Hadrian’s Wall and other sights.

All round very nice experience. Spacious dog friendly accommodation in a lovely location that includes a great walk on the doorstep around a pretty Tarn. Very enjoyable stay and an excellent location for forays into Northumberland and Scotland. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend this property to all dog lovers.

Peaceful and roomy
We enjoyed our stay at Calf Close Cottage very much. The cottage was very spacious and had everything we needed. The eggs and homemade jam left by the host was a lovely welcome gift. There was a lovely selection of books to read and also the information about the local area and things to do was very useful. We loved the wood burner even if we did feel a tad warm as it heated up nicely! We thought £8 was a bit steep to replenish the wood so we found a place and bought our own bag of wood. The garden was very spacious and secure for our dogs and they enjoyed having a run and sniff about. There was also a country park about a mile from the property which we had a lovely wander round. We would definitely return.

Jenia is a wonderful host.I have already recommended this cottage to many friends and family.the location is superb and the cottage itself is my dream home.the welcome gift of eggs and jams were delicious and made for some very tasty breakfasts.thanks again and we will be back soon

Wonderful location and cottage was perfect
Pictures on web site do not do this cottage justice, very spacious and cosy, location was perfect for us, we wanted peace and quiet and it was. Owner nwxt door but only saw her when we went to her. We book a cottage each year and this is the only one so far I would return to.

Brill stay at Calf cottage Brampton 3/6 June 2016.
Booked this cottage to be near Lakes and family in Workington.cottage lived up to photos everything spotless,kitchen had more than enough equipment for any cookin. Two very comfy leather sofas and foot stools,lovely 6foot bed,huge rooms width of cottage.windows on3 sides in lounge,watchin TVs in evening looking out over green fields and views of hills in distance.too hot to use wood Burner! Eggs and pots of home made jam very welcome,bought scones and cream for Sunday tea!ice cube bag in freezer very welcome especially nor our dog! Owners very friendly and helpful.cottage ideal base for Lakes ,Scotland and Yorkshire.I would certainly recommend this property and would go back again.Many thanks for a lovely stay.Colleen,Terry and Tilly Smith.x
