## Emplacement
Bischeim is a town in the Bas-Rhin, in the Grand Est region, less than 10 km north of Strasbourg.

The municipality, rather modest (4.4 km 2), has the particularity of being divided into two contiguous parts. It is bordered to the east by the Île river and is also crossed by the canal from the Marne to the Rhine.

Although still bounded by woodland in the northeast, the area is heavily urbanized and now has over 17,000 inhabitants.

Already inhabited during the Neolithic period, the "ban" of the locality is first owned by the bishop of Reims in the 5th century then passes under the control of the bishop of Strasbourg in the 12th. In the 15th century, the fief was sold to the Boecklin of Boecklinsau, who became lords of Bischeim. Annexed to the kingdom of France in 1681, the city experienced a certain boom during the second half of the 19th century with the establishment of railway workshops. An activity that has continued, since Bischeim still has a large SNCF maintenance center dedicated to high-speed trains. A prototype TGV 001 engine, which was first tested in the commune in 1972, is on display at the entrance to the town. Integrated into the urban community of Strasbourg in 1966, the city also has areas for craft and commercial activities. However, its historic centre has retained an authentic Alsatian charm and interesting heritage elements. In addition, a recreation area has been created on the site of an old ballast water tank.
