Review: Britannia Hotel Birmingham – "Cheap for a Reason, but Fails the Basics"
Rating: ⭐ / ⭐⭐
I am an independent traveler who uses a rollator, and I found this hotel fell short of even the most basic expectations. While I understand it is a budget-oriented "3-star" establishment, "cheap" should not mean a total breakdown in service and maintenance.
The Room & Facilities
The Climate: My radiator stopped working during my stay, and with no air conditioning, the room was either a fridge or an oven.
Maintenance: The windows are so old and poorly fitted that the "human traffic" of Birmingham felt like it was inside the room with me. The walls are paper-thin; I could hear the conversations of guests on both sides.
The Basics: No glass provided, no mini-bar, and no safe. Even the tap water ran warm, which is unpleasant when you just want a cold drink.
Service & Housekeeping
The "Hunt": In most hotels, you leave a sign for housekeeping. Here, I had to physically track down a housekeeper every single day just to get my bins emptied, find dry towels, or restock basic beverage supplies. It felt like a part-time job just to get the service I paid for.
Accessibility (The "Rollator" Test)
The Entrance: Navigating a heavy rotating door with a rollator is difficult and exhausting.
The Lift: Only one lift was operational during my stay, which is unacceptable and a safety concern for anyone with mobility issues.
