"Third time staying here due to the positive previous experiences. The positive streak continued with a great room featuring a fantastic air-conditioning unit which kept me cool in the June heat. A wonderful workout ensued in their very well-equipped gym set up. This was followed by a powerful shower and I went to dine nearby. Had a great night's sleep before a well-cooked breakfast got my day started perfectly. Can't wait to come back."

"Stayed for three nights over Xmas. The walk from the pub to the accommodation was across a muddy unpaved carpark. Access to the room was via a combination door lock and privacy in the room afforded by blinds at the door ,room windows. Unfortunately there was no internal lock on the door and gaps in the blinds afforded a view into the room from outside. The room was cold on arrival and took hours to warm up. "The grounds are stunning with so much potential but it feels very much a work in progress. We used paddle boards on the lake, which was fab but an additional charge on top of a very expensive room. The sauna wasn’t quite up to heat, we stoked the wood burning hot tub for a dip, tried the lake to cool off and the cold plunge was unfortunately empty. The room was nice and clean. I booked the junior suite but ended up getting a suite. It didn’t feel any more special than a deluxe room elsewhere...

"What a beautiful location! Lovely hotel in a perfect spot. The staff were all so freindly and helpful, especially the extremely polite dark haired gentleman at the bar when we arrived. He took the trouble to show me to the room and explained everything. The breakfast was also very good, great choice and lovely to sit with a view of the Abbey. Would love to stay here again and would highly recommend."

"My stay at the Mercure Hotel in Pembury was okay. My room was on the ground floor and adequate. The bathroom was very clean and cleaned for the three days that I stayed there. The bed was made and the room was clean daily and I have no complaints about it. The room was adequate for my needs.. The only slight grumble I have is that I did not find the staff very friendly. Sometimes there was nobody on reception at all and when I went to check out, I couldn’t see anybody around and was unable to...

"Fantastic location for the event i was attending. Close to local shops, pubs & cafes. The hotel staff were polite, very warm, welcoming, accommodating & friendly - a totally lovely experience. Would highly recommend to family & friends. The hotel can only accommodate able body individuals..... no wheelchair access and no facilities Re: lifts The stairs are narrow in places"

"The hotel was disappointing, it is in need of updating. Our room was very old fashioned and the bathroom felt unclean .On one of the hottest days of the year there wasnt even a fan to help cope with the heat. On the positive side, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was nice but I dont think we would chose to stay here again ."

"As other reviews have said the property is old and creaky and furnishings and carpets could do with being updated. The hotel is right next to the castle, pubs, restaurants and-supermarkets and is a great location. It’s a shame really as it could be really nice if a bit of TLC was added to the rooms and especially the entrance which really needs attention. Another Plus is the staff are really nice."

"The hotel is well situated in the high street. There is parking (albeit limited). Staff on arrival was pleasant but I didn’t see anyone after that. Old building so floors ( including stairs) were uneven and there was no lift. Not a problem for me but I would imagine not everyone could get upstairs. I was in room 19, top of building. No air con but there was a fan in the room. I was on my own but the room was a bit of a tight fit if a couple were in there. Bed linen and towels very clean....

"The house has rooms which are let and reminded me of a hostel. The web description of what I paid for did not tally with the room I was offered. I found I had a room on the second floor with an en-suite bathroom, an air conditioning unit which was not working, but a fan which was. The bathroom was well ventilated by a Velux window. The communal areas and staircase were not smart. The room was clean and had a kettle, tea & coffee etc. Given the price relative to local hotels it was OK for value....
