The location was great - quiet and out of the way but easily access to local attractions. I did find the room a bit warm on arrival and had to immediately turn off the radiators and open the windows. Also, the bed was a bit too hard and uncomfortable for me but that’s personal taste. The wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and I could have done with a hand rail to get in and out of the bath but that was my own fault for not requesting an accessible room.

The room did not have adequate lighting to do work, when I brought this to the attention of the staff as the light was not operational, they just took the bulb out and did not replace it, the clock was not working so one I pointed it out they just removed the clock and didn’t replace it, my room on first night of three could not be cleaned as I did not have a tag for the door handle - not enough door tags for the number of room

It's a lovely place for a chilled getaway. Very nice and welcoming staff, great food and the place simply looks quality. Not a great deal to do in the area unless you have a car but theres plenty of nice walks to take.

Little Gem
Great hotel especially if you have a dog🐶We were able to sit in the bar area to eat and the food presented was very good. The staff could not do enough to help and were extremely pleasant. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. The hotel,itself, was a little tired and could do with a general makeover but overall excellent stay for 3 nights and we will be returning

My room faced away from the coastal view. Not a big deal, but i would have preferred to have been able to see the sum setting over the river Duddon estuary rather than a view of a nearby quarry.

Stayed for a wedding. Decent size room. Lovely comfy bed. Very quiet. Some small niggles. No glasses or coat hangers in the room. Didn't discover this until we went to bed about 1am. Also didn't like the way the fresh linen & towels for the next day's guests were on the floor in the corridor when we went for breakfast. Not very hygenic!

Very average stay
The hotel is situated in a peaceful and quiet area and the room was a good size and nicely furnished. However, there was quite a few things we noticed and made the stay overall just OK. Firstly, on arrival and throughout the hotel there was an intense smell of cow manure from the surroundings, we understand that in the countryside this is normal however inside the hotel some air fresheners wouldn’t go a miss.The room was rough round the edges, it seemed dated even though it was one of the refurbished rooms and there was a lot of stains on the carpet. We were put in a ground floor room and the room was extremely hot at night but felt we was unable to open a window as it didn’t have a latch and opened very wide so was not safe. There wasn’t any air con system in the room but there was 2 fans provided that we found in the wardrobe, one of which didn’t work and the other was very loud disrupting our sleep. We ate at the in-house restaurant which was also rather mediocre. The food came quickly but wasn’t great for the price we paid. The staff in the restaurant seemed untrained and unprofessional. A couple of things was that we ordered steaks and was not asked how we would like them cooked. Also, part of our drink order was forgotten about so had to ask multiple times despite being one of four occupied tables in the restaurant. We were not asked how the stay was on check out, we did not have a very enjoyable experience and will not be returning to this hotel.

Food fantastic, room hygiene not so good..
Restaurant food fantastic, service poor as one young guy serving overworked. Room bed lining was dirty ! Mattress cover not covering mattress properly and damaged (reception sorted quickly though and gave 1 free breakfast). Bedroom lovely, bathroom very tatty and worn. Hotel was very quiet. Would still stay again though.

Restaurant and food was brilliant. Room was ok a bit worn. There was no soap, shower gel or shampoo. Lovely view though the window.

2 ladies & a greyhound
Waiter didnt ask about food allergy info so was made worse when he brought over the prawn linguine instead of the chicken! Was quickly removed without causing a reaction so was fine in the end, food we had was beautiful 😆

Nice Hotel, some improvements needed.
Couldnt fault the staff and friendliness, dissapointed in price of breakfast and in particular the continental which consisted of just cereal, yoghurt bits of fruit and juice and std bread for toast, no sign of cheese or meats which i thought was common. Very minimal shower and hair products in room, no glass in bathroom whether plastic or not, also didnt realise how isolated the hotel was and unable to walk into centre due to dual carriageways.

Return visit
Stopped here in March and wanted to return in the summer which we did and not disappointed. Very friendly staff. Dined in restaurant both nights and both excellent. Toured around the area Cartmel lovely little village.

Awesome stay
Staff on site are awesome, so friendly and helpful. Was having a difficult personal time on my stay and all staff went out of their way to help me, check on me. I very much enjoyed my stay and also the surroundings are lovely

A brand new feel to the place with amazing staff, who couldn’t do enough for us and our fur baby. Excellent food that catered for all dietary requirements ( ie carnivore and vegan!) Gorgeous dog bed, bowls and treats provided for Winnie. Lovely location for a walk to a natural gem of a beach! We will be back. Thank you Dunes .

Lovely chill couple of days Room large quiet comfortable and warm and recently refurbished Staff helpful and friendly Very dog friendly Location a bit remote but ideal for peace and quiet and walking and 1/2 mile from The Dunes(great for our 2 dogs) Food was great Gala night on New Year superb value with a 3 course meal Casino and a singer with music for dancing I would recommend this Hotel

Overall staff very helpful and cheerful.
Although we asked for accessible room it was lacking certain facilities in the bathroom I.e. grab rails. The room was at the farest end of the corridor causing me to walk further than necessary. I also suspect my electric wheelchair would barely have got through the fire doors. As I was away for a weekend I had not taken my chair but my scooter which certainly would not have got through the fire doors in the corridor. The towel radiator needs more cleaning as it is next to the toilet and was covered in goodness knows what spatter. We also needed to be informed on booking in that the rooms are cleaned on request, especially as the radiator was so yuk. It was on the card given to us but as we were busy getting settled we never read it. Generally the hotel is nicely presented and peaceful.

Loved the area and the decor of the hotel in the lobby and bar area was beautiful. The staff very friendly particularly Anya when we had our breakfast (which was an amazing breakfast!) Only few Negatives (although wouldn’t stop us staying again) was the bathroom was slightly dated, I think a more neutral Lino rather than bright red would modernise it a bit. Could also do with some black out blinds on the window as the room was extremely bright as soon as the sun came up (meaning our toddler was up with the sun) Other than that we had a perfect stay. Absolutely brilliant location for the zoo which was the purpose of our trip.

After speaking with this guest I can confirm the mistake with regards to parking was not made by The Dunes Hotel and was in fact a different hotel.
