Booking of 2 rooms, one ground floor one upper floor. In laws (in their 60’s and 70’s) took the ground floor for ease / mobility. Stay was fine until last day when upon checking out, the hotel tried to charge my in-laws for damage in the room. When we moved in we noticed there was damage but it was cosmetic ie minor holes in doors, cracks in walls etc quite typical of Spanish apartments so foolishly we never raised it with management. Apparently every room is turned around and fully repaired before every move in, with a 4 eyes check, and apparently this damage wasn’t there before. There was damage in both rooms so this cannot be true and they couldn’t show me any photos from previous inspections to evidence the damage was fresh but apparently, in their legal opinion, 2-4 of their employees both saying it is fresh makes it true yet 2-4 guests saying the opposite could not be true. I had to sign to say I disagree to with them trying to apply the charge. It left a disappointing end to an otherwise great holiday. Even more disappointing that upon check in the receptionist noted that she’d remembered me from a previous stay. I’ll definitely think twice before staying again and I’ll ensure I take photos of any room on arrival in case I have to defend a damage claim which was pre-existing. Makes me wonder how many other paying guests they attempt to bill for the same damage without repairing it and claiming it has been freshly created. Be careful and keep records.
