THE SPACE
The cabin is a newly renovated pet-friendly retreat, tucked into the woods off a quiet Columbia County back road, with enough space to breathe and plenty of amenities.
Inside, the living area is warm and well-furnished, flooded with natural light, with a comfortable queen sofa bed for extra guests. The kitchen is fully equipped: quality cookware, stovetop, microwave and a coffee setup ready to go. We stock the basics: so you can land and start cooking. Pick up groceries in at Hillsdale or Copake on the way, both a short drive from your home away from home.
The bedroom has a king bed and a great view of the woods. Towels and bath essentials are provided. A Smart TV is available for your favorite shows or movies while you get cozy. Starlink satellite WiFi delivers fast, reliable internet throughout, suited for video calls and remote work if you need it.
Step outside to a private deck is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening cocktail. A new grill is available for cookouts, and the firepit is set up next to a seasonal stream and stocked with wood. Relax in the hammock. Two bicycles are available for guests to explore the area, including the nearby Harlem Valley Rail Trail (access in Millerton, a short drive). Private parking on the property, no street parking is required.
The cabin has A/C for summer stays. It sleeps 4 comfortably: king bed in the bedroom, queen sofa bed in the living area.
**When you book, you're part of something a little bigger: a portion of every booking goes to Wag Creek, a rescue dog sanctuary in the Hudson Valley, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving vulnerable dogs a second chance. So, while you're unwinding in the woods, you're also helping a dog find their way home.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD - LOCAL AREA ANCRAM, NY
Ancram sits in one of the quietest, most unspoiled corners of Columbia County — old farms, stone walls, and unhurried back roads that most Hudson Valley visitors never find. It has the feeling of the region before it became fashionable, which is precisely its appeal.
Right outside your door Two bicycles are available at the cabin, perfect for exploring the area and the surrounding back roads at your own pace.
Nearby and worth the short drive The Harlem Valley Rail Trail is about 6–8 miles away — a scenic multi-use trail connecting Chatham all the way through Copake Falls, passing Hillsdale and the surrounding towns. Flat, well-maintained, and great for biking or hiking at any pace. The cabin bikes are perfect for getting there.
5–15 minutes away: Pine Plains and Millerton are both worth a slow afternoon. Pine Plains is home to Stissing House, a world-class restaurant that draws guests from well beyond the Hudson Valley, and one of the best meals you can have in the region. Reserve well ahead.
Millerton is a really charming small town with a couple of great local restaurants and a farmers market running every Saturday from mid-May through late November, 10am–2pm at 6 Dutchess Avenue.
Lake Taghkanic State Park is a clean, uncrowded lake with swimming, kayaking, and wooded hiking trails, one of the most underrated parks in the Hudson Valley.
Hillrock Estate Distillery, a James Beard-recognized field-to-glass bourbon and rye operation, is only 3.5 miles away.
Within 25–30 minutes
Hillsdale: a weekly farmers market and a genuine small-town feel, great for a quiet morning out.
Hudson, NY is the main draw of the region: a walkable main street lined with acclaimed restaurants, independent galleries, antique dealers, and excellent coffee. One of New York's most interesting small cities, and worth at least a full afternoon.
Rhinebeck and Red Hook: classic Hudson Valley charm with strong dining options and walkable town centers.
A bit further (35 minutes) but worth it Great Barrington, MA sits at the foothills of the Berkshires; a vibrant small city with excellent dining, coffee shops, an amazing candy store, independent bookshops, and easy access to the broader Berkshires.
Seasonal highlights: Catamount Mountain Resort is 25 minutes east — skiing, snowboarding and tubing in winter, mountain biking and aerial adventures in summer. Olana State Historic Site and Basilica Hudson's riverside concerts are both short drives north.
NYC is just over 2 hours by car. Metro North (Wassaic) is 30 minutes away; Amtrak (Hudson) 25 minutes,
