Altenkirchen is located on the Wittow peninsula, not far from the traditional fishing town of Wiek and is exempt from tourist tax. In the north of the municipality there is a beautiful high bank path that leads along the Baltic Sea coast for about 7 km to Cape Arkona. On the way, the sandy beach of Bakenberg lies below the cliffs and the coastal forest.

Activities nearby: Boat tours to the island of Hiddensee or the Störtebeker Festival start from Breeger Bodden. Take your time for hikes through extensive forests and heaths; this is the best way to discover the impressive diversity of nature. You shouldn't miss a trip to the port town of Sassnitz, located on the edge of the Jasmund National Park.
